It’s Friday, Knoxville! Let’s finish this week strong.
In today’s can’t-miss-weekend-plans edition: William Shatner talks Wrath of Khan, Swan Lake with live orchestra, and make your own glass pendant + a stacked lineup of events this weekend.
You saved for decades, inflation’s undoing it: Thirty years of packing lunches, putting money away, skipping vacations… and yet prices are rising faster than anything even the best of financial plans can keep up with. That’s exactly why more retirees are rolling over a portion of their savings into gold IRAs. *This free guide breaks down how it works →

📰 In the news
Grocery chain named Grand Marshal: Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, WWE star Kane, and NFL quarterback Joshua Dobbs will serve as Food City 500 dignitaries as the race starts Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m. ET — get all the race details.
Community support takes center stage: East Tennessee Foundation recently held its stakeholders summit, celebrating 40 years of giving. Extra food will be donated to neighbors in need. The summit is one of three meetings scheduled — read the full story.
RSVP details and referendum backdrop: Knoxville’s State of the City is set for April 24 at Urban Wilderness Gateway Park as the mayor will unveil a $477.3 million budget that keeps property tax rate unchanged — get RSVP info and details.
92% of people who switch car insurance providers save money: It sounds insane, but it’s true (according to LendingTree). Most people stick with the same company for years and never look twice at their bill. That was me until I took a few minutes to shop around and ultimately cut my premium in half. If you’ve been on the same plan for a while, you could be missing chances to save too — this free tool makes it easy to check.*
Your tax debt grows faster than your savings: The IRS charges 7% on unpaid taxes. Your bank probably pays you less than 1% on savings. That gap means your debt is outpacing everything else in your financial life. If you’ve been making payments and feel like you’re getting nowhere… you’re probably right — find out if you qualify for relief.*

💎 Local business spotlight
Mac attack, Knoxville-style: When the craving hits, Sweet P’s Uptown Corner nails rich, creamy mac ‘n’ cheese that pairs perfectly with smoky mains for real balance. Cozy vibe, no fuss, just bowls of cheesy happiness you’ll daydream about at noon… and again at midnight.
Undo the desk slump: If your neck and shoulders protest every afternoon, Cornerstone Chiropractic pairs gentle adjustments with massage and practical tips, so moving feels less like a saga. A short reset now, and errands, workouts, and sleep feel less creaky… with more comfort and fewer winces.
Treasure-hunt time: In declutter-and-refresh mode? Ladies of Charity Knoxville turns donated finds into real-life scores, with rotating racks of clothing, useful housewares, and the occasional why-did-they-give-this-up gem. Your bargain fuels local assistance programs, so shopping here feels good and does good.
These aren’t ads or sponsored placements, just some cool nearby spots we think are worth a visit.

🫶 We got your back
Your insurance won’t cover a $12,000 HVAC bill: If your furnace quits before it warms up, your homeowners insurance will tell you it’s a “maintenance issue” and wish you luck. Insurance covers sudden disasters. It doesn’t cover the systems that wear out over time, and those are the expensive ones. A home warranty is built for exactly this. HVAC, water heater, appliances, plumbing, electrical… all covered for less than $1/day with no age restrictions on what’s covered. You call, they send a tech, you pay a service fee. They handle the rest. *This one’s $150 off right now →
A doctor’s been fixing snoring for 30 years: No clunky mouthpiece or loud machines, just two quick throat sprays before bed every night. It might sound too simple, but more than 3 million people use it, and a double-blind study shows 79% of patients reported positive results. *See how it works →
Unknown-number calls aren’t random: Scammers don’t just pick numbers out of a hat. They pay data brokers a few bucks and get everything they need to harass you, trick you, rob you, or steal your identity outright. There are dozens of services that can remove your personal info from all 400+ of these data broker sites and keep an eye out to make sure it stays gone for good. *We recommend Aura →
Hang onto your memories: I found a box of my parents’ old home videos last month and realized I had no way to watch them. In case you didn’t know, you can easily convert all your memories to digital – tapes, photos, negatives. All of it. You’ll just ship everything in a prepaid kit, they’ll digitize it, and you’ll get your originals back plus online anytime access. *See how it works →
A free guide that pays off: AHG put together a full investor kit that breaks down why more folks than ever are rolling retirement savings into gold & silver, how much it costs, what the tax situation looks like, and how to get up to $25k in free silver. *Snag your copy here →

💎 Make Your Own Glass Pendant @ Printshop Beer Co. | Friday (4/10) at 5:00 PM – Spring’s here, so trade your wine-and-paint routine for fire and molten glass at Printshop Beer Co. Pint after the torch, please.
🦢 World Ballet Company: Swan Lake @ Knoxville Civic Auditorium-Coliseum | Friday (4/10) at 7:00 PM – Swap the sofa for Swan Lake, performed with a live orchestra, international dancers, and enough hand-sewn glamour to shame the charity ball. 🖍 Chalk Walk @ Downtown Knoxville | Saturday (4/11) at 8:00 AM – Grab a coffee and wander Downtown Knoxville, where the 18th annual Chalk Walk turns sidewalks into an open-air gallery. Watch 300 artists work their magic, let the kids chalk for free in the Fun Zone, and cast a People’s Choice vote like a cultured hero.
🐱 Kitten Shower & Foster Program Open House @ Young-Williams Animal Center | Saturday (4/11) at 10:00 AM – Kitten season is back, and Young-Williams on Division Street is basically a maternity ward with whiskers. Come snuggle fluff, learn how easy fostering is, bring a gift for the shower for prizes, maybe name a kitten for ten bucks, and support Kylie’s Foster Fund.
🌱 Free Plant Day @ Flora and Folia | Sunday (4/12) at 10:00 AM – Nothing says adulthood like getting excited about free plants, giveaways, and a storewide 20% off. Swing by this garden party of vendors, deals, and leafy adoptions, then spend the afternoon rearranging shelves like a zen Tetris master, coffee in hand. Bring a tote, obviously.
🥐 French Croissants And Danish Pastry @ The Cutting Edge Classroom | Sunday (4/12) at 1:00 PM – When your weekend coffee deserves better company than a bran muffin, join Chef Heather Palmer for a hands-on pastry class. She preps the dough, you shape croissants and danishes, then taste, box up your haul, and head home a beginner-friendly laminating convert.
🦆 The Ugly Duckling @ Bijou Theatre | Sunday (4/12) at 2:30 PM – Lightwire Theatre turns The Ugly Duckling into a glowing, high-tech puppet ballet at the Bijou, all electroluminescent wire, crisp choreography, and music from classical to pop.
