📰 In the news
A site’s next chapter: The Atlas Building Center, built in 1979 by the Richards family, was demolished following years of vacancy, paving the way for The Junction at Kathleen and stirring debate locally — read the full story.
Nationwide financing surge explained: The SBA announced record small-business lending in FY 2025, topping $44 billion across 84,000 loans, including $1.2 billion in the Seattle District, a 12 percent increase over the prior year — get the national and local breakdown.
Off-road clubs lend muscle: Seventy-five volunteers recently cleared nearly 500 fallen trees from Forest Service roads in North Idaho, opening miles of access and expected to save time and resources when heavy snow arrives — read the full story.
Compare rates for free: The national average for car insurance is around $175 per month. Paying more than that? Same, so I did some shopping around and ended up cutting my premium in half. If you haven’t checked in a while, you’re probably overpaying too — here’s the comparison tool I used.
Protect your nest egg: Savvy investors are turning to gold amidst today’s inflation, national debt, and market uncertainty for a reason. It holds its value when everything else feels shaky. Case in point: it’s up ~62% since this month last year. If you’re curious about adding it and other precious metals to your portfolio, American Hartford has a super helpful guide that covers everything you need to know. It’s free, and definitely worth a read — check it out here.

Highlights this week:

🫶 We got your back
A family-infused baking journey: At 29, Taysia Matthias is among Coeur d’Alene’s youngest brick-and-mortar owners. She started baking at 19, grew a cottage operation, and recently opened a storefront at 291 E. Appleway Ave. Expect treats made with clean, natural ingredients, reflecting her healthy-living focus. Read the full story.
Small decor, big mood: If your living room needs a pick-me-up, Mix It Up Home stocks pillows, throws, lamps, wall art, mirrors, clocks, even a few furniture pieces. Everything feels considered, not big-box. Do a quick lap, snag a couple accents, and suddenly your couch looks intentional.
Cider without the fuss: If your fridge is low on crisp and bubbly, CDA Taphouse Unchained pours a rotating mix of ciders alongside local brews, in a chill, bike-themed setting where it’s easy to linger past one pour these days.
Thinning hair? Same: I’ve been shedding a lot, and recently noticed my ponytail feeling thinner. After way too much panic-Googling, I discovered Keranique’s hair regrowth system. Everything with them is surprisingly easy: no quizzes, no pills, no choosing between dozens of products. Just grab the kit and follow the instructions. The best part? It’s $75 off right now, you’ll get three free gifts, AND you’ll get your money back if you don’t love the results.
