📰 In the news
Treasure hunters take note: The Greater Springfield Garage Sale will take place January 24 and 25 at Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, featuring antiques, collectibles, jewelry, and clothing. A $1-per-person coupon will be available to purchase — see when and where.
New resources for healthier living: Missouri health officials have launched a new website to help residents quit tobacco, with higher-than-average smoking rates, F grades from the American Lung Association, and teen cigarette use topping 6% — see what’s in the new site.
Plans to woo visitors: Ozarks cities are preparing to draw 2026 crowds, with Springfield and Branson tourism groups set to launch promotions as events like Route 66’s centennial and Kansas City World Cup approach — get all the details.
Compare rates for free: The national average for car insurance is around $175 per month. Paying more than that? Same, so I did some shopping around and ended up cutting my premium in half. If you haven’t checked in a while, you’re probably overpaying too — here’s the comparison tool I used.
Protect your nest egg: Savvy investors are turning to gold amidst today’s inflation, national debt, and market uncertainty for a reason. It holds its value when everything else feels shaky. Case in point: it’s up ~62% since this month last year. If you’re curious about adding it and other precious metals to your portfolio, American Hartford has a super helpful guide that covers everything you need to know. It’s free, and definitely worth a read — check it out here.

Highlights this week:

🫶 We got your back
New opportunities for students: The Community Foundation of the Ozarks is now accepting applications for more than $1.7 million in scholarships for students in Springfield and across the region. A universal application covers multiple awards, many renewable for two to four years. The application window closes March 16. Get all the details.
Local cider upgrade: Craving something crisp? At Springfield Brewing Company, Farmstand Hard Cider runs dry to semi-dry, made from 100% apple juice with subtle vanilla and a hint of oak, offering wine-like refreshment without gluten. A cozy pivot when beer isn’t calling.
Elevate your space: If your living room is stuck on “builder beige,” Obelisk Home is a design studio and three-floor gallery, with handpicked furniture, lighting, and original art. Pick a standout piece, or let the pros pull your room together.
Thinning hair? Same: I’ve been shedding a lot, and recently noticed my ponytail feeling thinner. After way too much panic-Googling, I discovered Keranique’s hair regrowth system. Everything with them is surprisingly easy: no quizzes, no pills, no choosing between dozens of products. Just grab the kit and follow the instructions. The best part? It’s $75 off right now, you’ll get three free gifts, AND you’ll get your money back if you don’t love the results.
