📰 In the news
Shaping community programs together: Carson City residents are being asked to take a survey to guide UNR Extension priorities, from children’s opportunities to wildfire preparedness and workforce training, with a chance to win $50 — see how priorities are set.
Revenue repurposing on the table: Carson City Supervisors will discuss redirecting a decades-old V&T Railway sales tax to neighborhood street maintenance at their first 2026 meeting, potentially shifting millions annually and freeing unneeded bond reserves — get all the details.
Allocations highlight community priorities: Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to distribute over $360,000 in grants to nonprofits providing pediatric dental care, transportation, and more, including the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada — see the funding breakdown.
Compare rates for free: The national average for car insurance is around $175 per month. Paying more than that? Same, so I did some shopping around and ended up cutting my premium in half. If you haven’t checked in a while, you’re probably overpaying too — here’s the comparison tool I used.
Protect your nest egg: Savvy investors are turning to gold amidst today’s inflation, national debt, and market uncertainty for a reason. It holds its value when everything else feels shaky. Case in point: it’s up ~62% since this month last year. If you’re curious about adding it and other precious metals to your portfolio, American Hartford has a super helpful guide that covers everything you need to know. It’s free, and definitely worth a read — check it out here.

Highlights this week:

🫶 We got your back
Post-holiday disposal tips: Carson City is picking up Christmas trees curbside at no extra cost on your regular trash day through Jan. 16. Cut trees taller than 6 feet into sections no longer than 6 feet, and remove all decorations, lights, and bases. Drop off is also available at designated sites. See drop-off and pickup details.
Fresh-air rally spot: Swap screen time for dinks at Mills Park Pickleball Courts. Friendly pickup play, ample courts, and easy rotations make it simple to jump in, see familiar faces, and snag sneaky cardio. Perfect for a quick after-work reset any day this week.
Indoor energy-burn, sorted: Whether Nevada’s weather is mood-swinging or cabin fever’s creeping in, Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada delivers play-based exhibits, storytime, and an open art studio. Plenty of space to build, tinker, and pretend while you catch a breather and they happily burn energy.
Thinning hair? Same: I’ve been shedding a lot, and recently noticed my ponytail feeling thinner. After way too much panic-Googling, I discovered Keranique’s hair regrowth system. Everything with them is surprisingly easy: no quizzes, no pills, no choosing between dozens of products. Just grab the kit and follow the instructions. The best part? It’s $75 off right now, you’ll get three free gifts, AND you’ll get your money back if you don’t love the results.

This house is wild
Cul-de-sac location on the westside backs directly to Carson City Open Space, with miles of trails right out the gate. Comfortable, clean interiors pair with a kitchen featuring newer appliances and a breakfast bar. Concrete tile crowns the main roof, and the carport has composition shingles. Out back, a greenhouse invites gardening, gear tinkering, and shoulder-season starts.
The unfinished basement spans 840 square feet per county records, with a 3/4 bathroom and rows of storage cabinets. It works as a workshop, studio, or gear room with room to grow. The exterior could use a little love, and the pricing reflects the project friendly opportunity.
