Yard Art (Level: Intro to Intermediate)

    Weld Like A Girl, 1350 S 3rd Ave, Yuma · verified Aug 7
    See details

Curious about how those whimsical metal pieces appear in gardens and along fences... oversized blossoms shaped from steel, hand tools reborn as critters, rustic suns and moons, near-real cacti, even creatures rising from the ground and tractors posed in pretend mud. This hands-on class provides the materials, and you bring the ideas to build a one-of-a-kind yard sculpture that you can take home, as long as you can transport it. Instruction begins with a focus on safety, then covers welding safety, plasma cutting, and GMAW (MIG) techniques through demonstrations and guided practice. Enrollment is limited to 12 to ensure individual attention, and the class is open to all. Safety gear is supplied, including eye protection, welding jackets, gloves, helmets, and hearing protection, though you are welcome to bring your own well-fitting safety glasses if you have them. Wear jeans, a cotton T-shirt, and closed-toe shoes. Boots are preferred, athletic shoes are acceptable, and sandals are not allowed. Make sure ankles and feet are covered, avoid capris, and feel free to wear a T-shirt or tank since a welding jacket will protect your skin. All supplies are included, and you may bring a garden tool or a piece of steel or stainless steel to incorporate into your design if you wish. Afternoon snacks are provided, and water is always available.
