Think towering metal blossoms rooted in the soil, animals shaped from rakes and garden tools, rustic sun and moon designs on sheds and homes, desert cacti that look convincingly real, even dragons rising from the ground and tractors seemingly stuck in place. Every session begins with safety, then moves into welding safety practices, plasma cutting, and GMAW (MIG) welding, with demonstrations followed by hands-on practice. All supplies are included, and participants may bring a garden tool or a piece of steel or stainless steel to incorporate into a personal sculpture. Plan a project you can transport home. Class size is limited to 12 people for individual attention, and the class is co-ed. Safety gear is provided, including safety glasses, welding jackets, gloves, welding helmets, and hearing protection. Bring your own well-fitting safety glasses if preferred, or use the ANSI-approved pair supplied. Wear jeans, a cotton T-shirt, and closed-toe shoes, with boots preferred and tennis shoes acceptable. Sandals and capris are not allowed, and ankles and feet should be covered. T-shirts or tank tops are fine since a welding jacket will be worn for skin protection. Water is available and afternoon snacks are provided.
