BaseLocal, LLC ("BaseLocal," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website baselocal.com, delivers email newsletters, sells paid event placements, and offers the BaseLocal Insiders' Club membership. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information, and the choices and rights you have over it.

By using our website or services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

We collect the information you voluntarily provide, depending on how you use our services:

• Newsletter signup: your email address (and the city you choose).
• Paid event submissions: your name, email, phone number, business or organization name and website, your role, and the details of the event you submit. Payment is processed by Stripe — see “Payments” below.
• Insiders' Club membership: your email address, a password (stored only in hashed form by our identity provider), your chosen city, and email-frequency preferences. Membership billing is processed by Stripe.
• Contact & requests: information you include when you email us or submit a privacy request.

We never receive or store your full payment card number. All payments are handled directly by Stripe, our PCI-compliant payment processor.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, we and our advertising and analytics partners automatically collect certain technical information, including:

• Browser type and version
• Device type and operating system
• Pages visited, links clicked, and time spent
• Referring website or source
• IP address (used to approximate general geographic location)
• Identifiers stored in cookies and similar technologies, including for advertising

Cookies, Advertising & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website, remember your preferences, understand how visitors interact with our content, and — with your consent where required — to serve and measure advertising. The categories we use include:

• Essential cookies: required for the website to function (e.g., remembering your consent choices and keeping you signed in to the Insiders' Club).
• Analytics cookies: help us understand site usage so we can improve it (e.g., Google Analytics).
• Advertising cookies: used by our advertising partners (including Ezoic and the ad vendors it works with) to display and measure advertising, which may include personalized or interest-based ads.

We display advertising on our website through Ezoic and its partners. To do this, these partners may set cookies and process identifiers and other data about your device and browsing. This activity may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or “targeted advertising,” under certain state privacy laws — even though no money changes hands for your data. We manage cookie and advertising consent through a consent management platform that supports the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) and U.S. state privacy signals. When you first visit, you can accept, reject, or customize non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time.

• Process paid event submissions and membership payments (via Stripe)

How We Share Information

We do not sell your information for money. We do share certain information with the service providers and advertising partners described below so we can operate our business and show advertising. We do not share your email address with third parties for their own independent marketing.

Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• beehiiv — email newsletter delivery. When you subscribe, your email is stored and processed by beehiiv.
• Stripe — payment processing for paid event submissions and Insiders' Club memberships. Stripe collects your payment details directly; we receive only confirmation and limited billing metadata, never your full card number.
• Amazon Web Services / Amazon Cognito — secure hosting and the identity provider that stores Insiders' Club login credentials (passwords are stored hashed).
• Ezoic and its advertising partners — display advertising, ad measurement, and related cookies/identifiers. A current list of advertising vendors is available through the consent preferences accessible from our footer.
• Google Analytics and, where enabled, Meta — website analytics and audience measurement.

Newsletter Subscriptions Are Separate

Subscribing to a BaseLocal email newsletter is a distinct opt-in handled through beehiiv. A privacy request submitted on baselocal.com concerns the information we collect directly through our website and services. To stop receiving a newsletter, use the “unsubscribe” link in any email — that is the fastest way and is independent of the choices on this page.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content

Our website and newsletters may contain advertising, affiliate links, and sponsored content, some of which is marked with an asterisk (*). When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. These third-party sites have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have specific rights regarding your personal information. We honor the following rights for all U.S. users, regardless of location, and you can exercise them through our data request form or by emailing hello@baselocal.com.

• Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana & Other States

If you reside in a state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we have collected about you
• Correct inaccuracies in your personal data
• Delete your personal data
• Obtain a portable copy of your personal data
• Opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and certain profiling — see Your Privacy Choices above

We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request, and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally 45 days). If you are not satisfied with our response, you may appeal by contacting us at the same email address, and you may lodge a complaint with your state attorney general.

Limits on deletion. The right to delete is not absolute. As permitted by law, we may retain certain information even after a deletion request — for example, to complete a transaction you requested, to keep the financial and transaction records we are legally required to maintain (such as records of paid event placements or Insiders' Club memberships), to detect or prevent fraud and abuse, to comply with a legal obligation, or to exercise or defend legal claims. Where we cannot delete information for one of these reasons, we delete or de-identify what we can and retain only what is necessary. Separately, our payment processor (Stripe) retains its own transaction records under its obligations. If you have an active paid membership, we retain the information needed to keep providing that service; a deletion request is not a cancellation, and you can cancel your membership separately.

CAN-SPAM Compliance

Our email newsletters comply with the CAN-SPAM Act. Specifically:

• We do not use false or misleading subject lines or header information
• We identify advertising messages where applicable
• We include our physical mailing address in every email
• We honor unsubscribe requests promptly (within 10 business days)
• Every email contains a clear and conspicuous unsubscribe mechanism

How to Unsubscribe

You can unsubscribe from any BaseLocal newsletter at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email. You may also contact us at hello@baselocal.com to request removal.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Our services are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@baselocal.com.

Data Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your newsletter email for as long as you remain subscribed; if you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we will do so within a reasonable timeframe, subject to legal retention obligations (for example, transaction records for paid services).
