At Cafe Colonial, an all-ages bill spotlights four bands from Sacramento and San Francisco exploring the darker, fuzzier edges of rock. Sacramento’s False Flowers delivers shadowy post-punk with an atmospheric pull. San Francisco’s The Green Door, formed in 2008 by Mike Carnahan, Reese Abell, Vanessa Wolter, and Devin Triplett, grew from a film-and-art side project into a group that blends Spaghetti Western desert tones with the pulse of 1960s garage and acid rock, releasing a first full-length in 2011 and later albums Wolf in the Fold in 2017 and Dead Stock in 2025. The Spiral Electric, from San Francisco, channels moody psychedelia with vivid vocals, reverb-soaked guitar, dreamy keys, thundering bass, and rhythmic drive, noted by The Obelisk for bridging heavy psych with riff-forward rock. Sacramento duo Pets has been crafting reverby fuzz and noise-pop since 2003, sharing stages with national acts and, on the 2025 album Dig The Skull, amplifying fuzzed bass, echoing guitar, looped drum-machine beats, hand percussion, and layered vocals for a distinctly DIY punkgaze sound.

It continues to Cold Spring near Long Barn for a hydration break and preparation for higher elevation riding along the twists of Highway 108. Midway through, riders stop at Topaz Lake in Gardnerville for lunch, photos, and refueling with time to relax together. The ride concludes at Kennedy’s Pioneer Burgers in Pioneer, with food and conversation before everyone departs at their own pace. A beginner-friendly pace is planned with experienced riders present and multiple opportunities for rest and fuel. Participants are expected to start with a full tank, ride within their limits, avoid passing within the group, keep safe following distances, wear appropriate protective gear, stay hydrated at each stop, and respect local communities and speed limits.

A daylong meditation retreat with SIM’s visiting teacher, Tony Bernhard, is offered in a hybrid format at Sacramento Dharma Center or online. The theme and detailed schedule will be announced. The program will include a presentation from the teacher, and attending in person is encouraged. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $25 per person and is due before the retreat begins. Those who wish to offer additional support may choose a $35 or $50 registration, and lack of funds will not prevent participation. Early registration helps indicate whether you plan to attend on site or via Zoom, which supports room planning. After registering, participants may offer dana to the teacher in appreciation. Tony Bernhard is a Buddhist chaplain and teacher who hosts study groups in Davis and has taught for dharma communities around the Bay Area and Central Valley for more than 25 years. Until the pandemic he served as a mental health counselor and chaplain for inmates at Folsom Prison. He spent over two decades with the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies coordinating continuing education for graduates of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders programs, and he recently retired from the board of the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies in Redwood City after more than 20 years. His practice is non-traditional, shaped by his prison chaplaincy, extensive teaching, and study of the early Pali scriptures.
Sacramento Dharma CenterMen's Swap Society Clothing Swap at Sun & Soil in Sacramento
A relaxed, community-driven clothing exchange at Sun & Soil Health Company invites participants to trade gently used men’s apparel for new-to-you pieces while cutting down on fashion’s hidden footprint. Producing a single cotton T-shirt can use roughly 2,700 liters of water, close to what one person drinks over two to three years, so extending a garment’s life makes a difference. Bring clean, wearable men’s clothing you no longer need and trade for items brought by others. All sizes, styles, and genders are welcome, and women are welcome to swap on behalf of the men in their lives. Please bring only gently used items and a bag. For easier try-ons, consider wearing a fitted tank or shorts under your clothes. Entry works two ways. Purchase a ticket to exchange one item for one item, or become a Swap Society member to use a shopping pass that unlocks unlimited swapping at all locations along with additional perks. The Swap Society partners with The Beauty Boost Sacramento. Beauty Boost members receive free entry to their first swap and can access a discounted Swap Society membership at $15 per month. Swap Society members receive free access to their first Beauty Boost event with registration and 15 percent off Beauty Boost events, redeemable through the member portal. The flow is simple. The first portion is check-in and mingling, then swapping continues throughout with a wrap-up beginning near the end. Arriving on time offers the best selection. Leftover items are saved for future swaps or donated to WEAVE Inc. Previous swaps have contributed thirty nine pounds to WEAVE, helping keep clothing out of landfills and supporting people in need. WEAVE provides crisis intervention and works to promote safe, healthy relationships while advancing a community free of violence. Set within Sun & Soil Health Company, a community-focused wellness space in Sacramento devoted to sustainable living, nourishment, and connection, the setting complements a day of mindful swapping and conscious style.

Scratch Made Life KitchenWax and DJ Hoppa: Highway Hotel Tour at Harlow's
Harlow's presents Wax and DJ Hoppa on the Highway Hotel Tour, an all ages show built on the creative spark that ignited when Hoppa joined as Wax's tour DJ in 2024. With a portable studio always close at hand, the pair turned life on the move into constant recording, shaping songs in hotel rooms, green rooms, and the backs of vans during long stretches across the United States and Canada. That momentum led to Highway Hotel, a road-born album that blends Hoppa's raw hip hop instincts with Wax's melodic range and eclectic lyricism, guided by a spontaneous approach that favored honest, in-the-moment ideas. The record features guest appearances from Little Stranger, G Love, K.A.A.N., Jarren Benton, Watsky, Jarv, Demrick, ¡Mayday!, Krysta Youngs, Damn Skippy, Kail Problems, Marley B, 1Ton, SUMPP, and Herbal T.
Harlow'sAn Evening with The Greyboy Allstars at Harlow's
Harlow's presents an all ages evening with The Greyboy Allstars, a group that has helped define American groove music for more than three decades by blending jazz, soul, and funk with hip hop swagger and adventurous improvisation. Emerging from the 1990s San Diego scene, the band made its mark with West Coast Boogaloo, a debut created with funk icon Fred Wesley that powered the West Coast’s acid jazz and funk revival. They expanded that foundation on A Town Called Earth, weaving in cosmic jazz touches and cinematic textures. Both albums continue to influence modern groove culture, frequently sampled and referenced by DJs, beatmakers, and rising jazz artists around the world. The band continues to evolve with Grab Bag: 2007–2023, a compilation of previously unreleased tracks, deep cuts, and left-field gems recorded over the last fifteen years. Spanning tight rhythm workouts to spacey, organ-driven explorations, it highlights a group that remains inventive and deeply in the pocket. The lineup features saxophonist and flutist Karl Denson, whose fiery approach reflects the soul-jazz lineage of Sonny Rollins and the grit of Maceo Parker; he leads his own Tiny Universe and has long toured with The Rolling Stones. Keyboardist Robert Walter, a master of the Hammond B3, supplies deep grooves, rich harmonies, and fearless improvisation informed by acclaimed solo work and collaborations. Guitarist Michael Andrews, also known as Elgin Park, brings melodic focus inspired by Grant Green and Wes Montgomery and the perspective of a celebrated film composer with credits including Donnie Darko and Pharrel’s Piece by Piece. On bass, Chris Stillwell anchors the music with fluid, funky lines that fuse Motown depth with California cool, while drummer Aaron Redfield delivers nuance and power, from crisp breakbeats to expansive jazz interplay, driving the band’s ever-developing sound.
