J. Roddy Walston

J. Roddy Walston delivers a whirlwind live set built for movement and feeling. Big tracks like Heavy Bells roar with rallying force, while deep cuts such as Boys Can Never Tell lean into a more reflective, strategic groove. His sound pulls from a combustible mix of influences... the fire of Kurt Cobain, the fractured sweetness of Nilsson, the heft of Led Zeppelin, and a sly nod to William Onyeabor’s lonely, synth-splashed funk. Attempts to box him in do not stick. Onstage he embraces chaos, the songs hold fast, and the impact lingers. He performs with his band, and the concert is free.

Bluegrass and Beyond

This concert traces the modern string quartet’s evolution through two works by living composers. Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 5 unfolds in glowing, continuously shifting textures, while Mark O’Connor’s String Quartet No. 2, Bluegrass, reshapes classical form with the drive and spirit of American roots traditions to offer a distinctly American perspective. A celebratory program honors Brent Rowan’s 25 years at Strings Music Festival alongside a milestone birthday, reflecting on a journey to Nashville that took a nontraditional route. Largely self-taught and guided by instinct, feel, and a deep connection to song, he became one of country music’s most respected musicians. A five-time CMA Musician of the Year, Rowan has appeared on more than 15,000 recording sessions, lending his touch to landmark albums and film soundtracks with artists including Chris LeDoux, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Olivia Newton-John, Sting, and Neil Diamond, always keeping the focus on the music rather than the spotlight. His influence extends to producing as well. His first major project, Joe Nichols’ Man with a Memory, received a Grammy nomination for Country Album of the Year, highlighting his ear for talent and commitment to authenticity. Since 2000 he has returned to the Pavilion each summer, welcoming friends and collaborators to share the stage, among them Tanya Tucker, Guy Clark, Joe Nichols, and Clay Walker. An Evening with Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives bring a night centered on one of country music’s most influential careers. Over more than fifty years and many records, the five-time Grammy winner, Country Music Hall of Famer, founder of the Congress of Country Music, and AMA Lifetime Achievement Award honoree has pushed the genre forward while honoring its roots. He first performed alongside Lester Flatt and Johnny Cash, then built a solo legacy with milestone albums like Hillbilly Rock, certified Gold, and This One’s Gonna Hurt You, certified Platinum, along with Grammy-winning favorites The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’ with Travis Tritt and Same Old Train. His creative reach extends to film and television, from composing the score for All the Pretty Horses that earned a Golden Globe nomination to Grammy-recognized instrumental performances on Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Hummingbird. He hosted the long-running television series The Marty Stuart Show, serves with the Country Music Foundation, is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2020, and established the Congress of Country Music in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to celebrate and preserve the art form. Taking the stage with longtime bandmates Kenny Vaughan, Harry Stinson, and Chris Scruggs, he spotlights the chemistry behind Space Junk, a double album of original instrumentals. The release features cover art by Herb Alpert, leader of the Tijuana Brass and a friend Stuart has admired for years, and it channels surf-leaning guitars, West Coast grooves, gleaming steel, and agile picking that suggest a breezy, after-dark coastal jam.

The Jayhawks

The Jayhawks bring a roots-centered sound that first set them apart in Minnesota in 1985. Across nearly four decades they have released 11 studio albums and performed widely. After two independent releases in the 1980s, they signed with American Recordings in 1991, issued five albums through the next decade, toured around the globe, and continued on after founding member Mark Olson departed in 1995. A break in the mid-2000s was followed by a reunion of the 1994 lineup that yielded a 2011 studio album and two years of touring. In 2014 a late-1990s incarnation led by Gary Louris hit the road to support reissues of the 1997–2003 albums, then delivered the ninth studio album in 2016, recorded in Portland with producers Peter Buck and Tucker Martine. Back Roads and Abandoned Motels arrived in 2018 with the band’s takes on songs Gary Louris had written with other artists, along with two new songs, and recording wrapped in Minnesota in late 2019 ahead of the 2020 release of the 11th album, XOXO. In early 2025 the group announced work had begun on a twelfth studio album planned for 2026, which marks 40 years since their debut. The year has been designated The Year of the Hawk.

10th Anniversary 24 Hour 'Boat Cruise

Started by community members in 2017, the 24-Hour 'Boat Cruise is a fundraiser created to drive meaningful change at the local level during an increasingly divided time, with Integrated Community (CIIC) as the beneficiary. Marking its tenth anniversary, the event has raised nearly half a million dollars for CIIC’s early childhood education programming, often doubling the previous year’s total. The purpose remains clear... raise as much funding as possible, celebrate with bicycling fun, and increase community awareness of CIIC and its work.
