Arbor Day Tree Giveaway

State Historic Sites is partnering with the City of Springfield to distribute 700 trees during an Arbor Day giveaway. Seedlings and small packets of wildflower seeds will be provided with planting instructions, and staff will be available to help attendees choose a species suited to their planting conditions. Trees can be picked up at several sites until supplies are gone. At the Old State Capitol, families may receive up to two trees from Red Oak, Red Osier Dogwood, or Bald Cypress. The Sumac Shop at the Dana-Thomas House Foundation will offer Fragrant Sumac with a limit of one per family. Kidzeum will have Red Maple with a one per family limit.

Funshop Kids Club!

Funshop Kids Club is a welcoming drop-off program where children dive into themed activities through crafts, STEM challenges, interactive play, and group games. Kids rotate through hands-on stations and enjoy plenty of active time. Please send a snack or light meal so they stay fueled. The program nurtures creativity, teamwork, and a love of learning while keeping things lively and engaging. Designed for ages 6 to 12. The single-session rate is $30R/$35NR. Classic Battletech - Open Play

Classic Battletech open play with flexible arrival and no requirement to stay for the entire session. Participants should bring dice and their models. Play centers on the 3025 and 3050 eras, and games may continue into the evening.

Open Mic Night

Bar Bella presents its debut open mic, hosted by Micah Walk, inviting performers to share their talents. Arrive early to sign up for a spot. The event is open to all ages. Fourth Annual Earth Day Celebration

At the Hoogland Center for the Arts, the Fourth Annual Earth Day Celebration spotlights the Emiquon Preserve, a 6,700 acre wetland restoration along the Illinois River. Randy Smith of The Nature Conservancy shares how a vision more than 25 years in the making became a refuge for wildlife and an example that informs restoration work around the world. The program begins with a social hour featuring appetizers, a cash bar, display tables, and a nature themed art exhibit by the Sangamon Watercolor Society. It continues with a presentation by Randy Smith, The Nature Conservancy’s Illinois River Project Director, followed by a question and answer session. Additional highlights include a native tree giveaway from The Tree Advocates and an interactive art installation titled Two Futures: Losing Time to Save Illinois Wetlands, traveling from its unveiling at the state capitol for display at this event. Commissioned by the Illinois Environmental Council, this large scale hourglass sculpture contrasts a thriving wetland with a degraded landscape and symbolizes the consequences of weakened wetland protections. Presented for the community by Friends of the Sangamon Valley, Illinois Environmental Council, Illinois Native Plant Society - Central Chapter, Lincoln Memorial Garden, Menard County Trails & Greenways, Sangamon Watercolor Society, and the Springfield Audubon Society with generous support from Vera Herst. Voices of America

Springfield Choral Society celebrates America’s 250th year with a program that journeys across the nation’s vocal traditions. Blue Sky Revival brings a tribute to the Allman Brothers Band to the motordome at Route 66 MotorHeads Bar & Grill, Museum & Entertainment Complex. The performance features touring artist Travis Ried of the James Armstrong Band teaming up with members of Birds of a Feather for a mix of southern rock and psychedelic blues. 2026 Lawn Mower Clinics - W. Stanford Ave

Get ready for mowing season with a tune up from the Springfield Jaycees. This clinic services push mowers that are already in working condition, and the mower must be able to start before service begins. At pickup, they will start it with you to confirm it runs. The $70 service includes a new spark plug, an oil change, and blade sharpening. An air filter change is available for an additional $10. Payment is accepted by cash, check, or card. The clinic takes place at the Stanford location of O'Rielly's Auto Parts.

LLVB Fundamental All-Skills Camp

Led by the head coach of Lincoln Land Volleyball, this camp focuses on strong fundamentals and movement in an encouraging, upbeat setting. Players receive instruction across the full range of volleyball skills, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and digging. The coach brings 12 years of competitive playing experience, is a UIS alum, and has 14 years of coaching, dedicated to sharing expertise with athletes eager to improve.

HalfWits and SRRC Members Half Marathon Celebration!

HalfWits participants and SRRC members are invited to a celebratory post-race brunch marking the half marathon and the start of a new running season. Attendance is open to anyone who consistently ran with the HalfWits this year or is a current SRRC member, and those who are not yet members may attend by joining the club. The buffet will feature sausage gravy with biscuits, thick-cut hickory bacon, sausage patties, scrambled eggs with chives and sour cream, roasted breakfast potatoes with herbs and brown butter, mixed fruit, biscuits or toast with jams and butter, a selection of breakfast pastries, a vegetarian hash, and complimentary coffee, juice, and soft drinks, with a cash bar available. Forest Therapy

This Forest Therapy session at Lincoln Memorial Garden is guided by longtime member and supporter Cassandra Claman. The experience unfolds at a gentle pace over about 90 minutes to two hours and can be adapted for different groups and abilities. It is not a naturalist tour, a strenuous workout, or actual bathing; clothing remains on. A certified guide offers simple invitations that help participants engage their senses and cultivate a more embodied connection with the surrounding landscape, while the forest itself is considered the therapist. The practice has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression, and help people slow down from hectic routines. Sessions are offered throughout the year. Group size is limited and registration is required. The fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Color Me Holi 5K Run/ Walk

Celebrate Holi with a color-filled 5K run and walk presented by the Asian Indian Women’s Organization. Annual Used Games Sale

An annual sale for pre-owned board games returns with a weekend of buying and selling. Those interested in selling can bring titles to Titan Games Springfield on designated check-in days during regular store hours. Each item must be submitted through the online form before drop-off. Games need to be complete and in at least fair condition, and staff may decline damaged copies, non-board-game items such as books or miniatures, blind mystery offerings, or anything with offensive themes or imagery. Bundles should group related products, like a base game paired with its expansions. Sellers choose their own prices, with the exception of titles currently sold by the store, which must be priced at no more than half of MSRP. A separate reduced Sunday price may also be noted. Sellers receive 90 percent of the pre-tax sale price as store credit, issued the Monday following the sale. Unsold items must be picked up by the stated Wednesday deadline. Staff will attempt to contact anyone who leaves items behind, and unclaimed games may be donated or discarded at staff discretion.

This youth running experience is part of a welcoming, nationwide program that puts fun and encouragement at the center. Guided by committed coordinators from the local community, kids cheer on their own progress while building active, healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Cone killing aka slow speed motorcycle skills practice

At Simpson’s Harley-Davidson, riders can take part in a free slow-speed motorcycle skills practice designed to build confidence and control. All experience levels and all motorcycle makes and models are welcome. The focus is precise use of the clutch, throttle, and rear brake while navigating cone layouts, with exercises that can be set up to target specific challenges. The practice includes balance work and controlled low-speed maneuvers, along with elements from the Illinois DMV test such as cone weaves, right turns, and left U-turns. For newer to intermediate riders, patterns feature tighter U-turn boxes of about 18 to 22 feet in both directions, a keyhole circle starting near 30 feet across, a figure eight around 24 feet wide, a W course with lanes roughly 9 to 12 feet wide, and an intersection layout 18 to 24 feet across that strings together multiple U-turns each way. Additional cone weaves place markers about 10 to 15 feet apart in line, sometimes offset by roughly 2 to 12 feet. As skills improve, participants can try intermediate to expert police patterns or continue refining existing drills. Safety guidelines follow an MSF-style approach. A DOT helmet and over-ankle boots or shoes are required, long sleeves and gloves are preferred, riders use their own motorcycles, and a waiver is required.

Saints Flight Blood Drive

The Saints Flight Battle of the Bases Blood Drive will be held at the Stellar Aviation parking lot. In partnership with ImpactLife, this lifesaving effort is part of a regional competition among Air Methods programs to see which base can collect the most blood. Saints Flight carries blood products on every flight, which can make a critical difference for patients experiencing severe blood loss. About every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and a single pint can help save three or more lives. All eligible donors will receive snacks and a free Saints Flight T-shirt.

The Illinois State Museum and Hispanic Women of Springfield are partnering to celebrate Día del Niño, also known as Day of the Kid. Cone killing aka slow speed motorcycle skills practice

At Simpson's Harley-Davidson, riders of every experience level on any make or model can take part in a free slow speed skills session designed to build confidence and control. Practice centers on navigating cone layouts while managing clutch, throttle, and brakes with precision. Participants can share specific challenges and have targeted exercises arranged to address those areas, with new drills focused on balance and very low speed maneuvering to refine clutch, throttle, and rear brake coordination. Elements from the Illinois DMV exam are recreated, including a cone weave, a right hand turn, and a left hand U-turn. Beginner and intermediate riders work toward tighter U-turns in both directions at about 18 to 22 feet, along with a keyhole circle starting around 30 feet wide, a figure eight near 24 feet, a W pattern with lanes about 9 to 12 feet, and an intersection layout 18 to 24 feet wide that includes multiple U-turns each way. Cone weaves vary too, with spacing commonly 10 to 15 feet and occasional offsets of roughly 2 to 12 feet. As skills improve, riders can try intermediate to expert police style patterns or continue polishing existing ones. Safety requirements are similar to an MSF class. A DOT helmet and over ankle footwear are required, and long sleeves and gloves are recommended. Participants use their own motorcycles and a waiver must be completed.

At Rochester Public Library District, this live, interactive Acts of Science: Connected program invites people of all experience levels to take part in real time astronomy research and hear directly from scientists. Facilitators will guide participants step by step, and every contribution counts toward the shared goal of 2.50 million Acts of Science. The featured activity highlights Rubin Comet Catchers, with the project’s scientist introducing how to examine authentic images from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory to spot hidden, active comets. Girl Scout Day at the Capitol 2026

This free slow-speed motorcycle skills practice at Simpson's Harley-Davidson welcomes every rider and every type of bike. The session focuses on building confidence and precise control at low speeds by working clutch, throttle, and brake coordination through cone-based patterns, including new drills that emphasize balance and steady, controlled riding. Participants can identify specific challenges and tailored setups will be created to target those skills. Elements inspired by the Illinois DMV test are included, such as a cone weave, a right turn, and a left U-turn. For newer and intermediate riders, exercises feature tighter U-turns in both directions at 18 to 22 feet, a keyhole circle starting at 30 feet wide, a 24-foot figure eight, a W pattern with 9 to 12-foot lanes, and an intersection layout 18 to 24 feet wide that involves a series of U-turns in each direction. Additional weaves use cones spaced 10 to 15 feet apart, sometimes offset by 2 to 12 feet. As skills improve, riders can explore intermediate to expert police-style patterns or continue refining existing techniques. Requirements are similar to an MSF class: a DOT-compliant helmet and over-the-ankle footwear are required, long sleeves and gloves are preferred, riders use their own motorcycles, and a waiver must be completed.

Guests move from Vondra Social House for appetizers, to Whimsy Tea Company for the main course, then to Bloom Wine Bar & Florals for dessert. A cocktail is included at the first and third stops, with a distinctive tea served at the second. The opening course features a cucumber sandwich, a biscuit with jam, and a mini sausage roll. The second course includes a chicken croissant and a tea cake. Dessert is a teacup tiramisu. The price is $75 per person plus tax. Reservations are handled by calling Vondra Social House, and full nonrefundable payment is required to confirm. They add their own signature twist to familiar hits and pair it with a production that includes smoke effects, lighting, video, and costume changes, creating an immersive concert experience.

Capital City Biathlon, Mini-Biathlon & 5K

Set among the rolling countryside at Danenberger Family Vineyards, this friendly endurance event welcomes newcomers and seasoned athletes alike. Choose from a mini-biathlon that pairs a 1-mile run with a 7.5-mile bike, a flat and fast 5K out-and-back on Irish Road, a biathlon combining a 5K run with a 15-mile ride, or a team biathlon where one teammate runs the 5K and the other rides the 15 miles. Packet pickup is available, with the check-in tent located on the south side of the winery near Irish Road and parking on the east side. Indoor restrooms and porta potties will be open. The race uses chip timing, so line up by pace and your time begins when you cross the start line. Courses use low-traffic country roads, ham radio operators will be positioned along the route, and clear rules guide both runners and cyclists. At the finish, collect a medal and enjoy post-race snacks, with breakfast items available for purchase. Friends and family are welcome, and awards will be presented to top finishers and age groups across all events.

Mobile Branch at AMF Springfield Lanes

The Lincoln Librarys Mobile Branch is visiting the community. The bookmobile brings books, digital resources, internet access, and programs. It is a scaled-down version of the main collection and visits all 10 city wards, making library services accessible. The library on wheels is handicap accessible, allowing Springfield residents to discover all that Lincoln Library offers. The bookmobile schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic, or mechanical issues.

This final interest meeting takes place before registration opens. It will share information about the co-op and provide time to address questions and concerns ahead of fall semester registration. Route 66 cruise

A relaxed group cruise along the Illinois stretch of Historic Route 66 marks the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road. Suitable for classic cars, motorcycles, and everyday vehicles, it follows original alignments with plenty of opportunities for photos and roadside nostalgia. The outing begins on the Illinois side of the Chain of Rocks Bridge on Chouteau Island, a historic Route 66 crossing over the Mississippi that is now a pedestrian bridge with river views. From there, the drive continues east on Historic Route 66. Participants can follow the classic Route 4 alignment through Carlinville or use the west frontage road for a smoother ride, and wayfinding is well marked with Route 66 shields and signs. The pace is casual and flexible, with chances to pause for attractions, vintage signs, and diners. The cruise concludes at Route 66 MotorHeads Bar & Grill, Museum & Entertainment Complex in Springfield, a car themed destination with food, drinks, and museum exhibits. After the cruise, participants may continue east on Route 66 for additional miles or return via an alternate historic alignment. It is a laid back, no pressure gathering for Route 66 fans honoring 100 years of history.

"City Rat, Country Rat" Games League - 2026 Springfield Edition (Week 3)

This games league blends country style straw bale challenges with city themed urban courses. The lineup features four games on straw bale layouts and seven games on urban courses, and teams may choose to play only City, only Country, or a mix of both. Extra Madd Ratter trials are offered only on Sunday afternoons and are useful for Crazy 8s practice. Participation is flexible, with the option to take part in larger group sessions on designated Sunday afternoons or to complete league runs during scheduled training that week. Timeless Tradition All Breeds Sheep Sale

An all breeds sheep show and sale is set for the Illinois State Fairgrounds, organized by the American Cheviot Sheep Society and centered in the North Sheep Barn. The schedule features a judged show followed by a live auction. Breed order for the show and sale order for the auction will be announced after entries are received. Evan Snyder serves as judge for the show, and Gary Saylor conducts the sale as auctioneer. Consignors must meet the entry deadline, with submissions accepted by mail or email and catalog placement confirmed once fees are received. Entry fees are $30 per head, due at the time of entry, and are nonrefundable for animals that are sifted or otherwise do not make the sale. In addition, a 10 percent commission is charged on the final bid. Entries received after the catalog is printed will incur a $60 per head late fee, while additional animals added by consignors already listed in the catalog are charged the standard fee. A sale catalog will be available on the Cheviot website. Classes include yearling rams and ewes, fall lambs, and lambs by birth month in January, February, and March. Slick shorn divisions will be offered as needed for meat breeds. Consignment rules require at least one ewe for each ram beyond the first, with the second ram entry requiring two ewes. Any number of ewes may be consigned. All animals must have Scrapie identification and appropriate health papers. Out of state consignors must secure an entry permit before entering Illinois. A minimum bid of $400 applies to every lot. The Northfield Inn serves as sale headquarters.

This celebratory 5K honors a century of Historic Route 66 with a course set at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The run sets off by the Route 66 Experience and follows a scenic loop through the grounds, blending fitness with a nod to classic Americana. A defining feature is a full mile on the Illinois State Fair Grandstand Track, the storied oval known for motorsports, concerts, and long-standing State Fair traditions. An official split is recorded for that mile, giving runners a built-in checkpoint within the race. Whether aiming for a personal best, running for pure enjoyment, or saluting the highway’s milestone, participants become part of the celebration.

Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR

At Rochester Public Library District, Safe Sitter Essentials with CPR is an instructor-led class that helps students in grades 6 through 8, with older teens welcome, learn to stay safe at home, care for younger siblings, and handle babysitting jobs responsibly. Interactive games and role-play create a hands-on experience while covering child care and safety, CPR, and practical life and business skills. A course and certification fee includes same-day instruction and materials to take home. Attendees should pack a sack lunch and a drink. Hosted by the Village of Jerome, the season’s second vendor market brings together local vendors both inside and outside the Jerome Civic Center. Attendees can explore offerings from local participants in a friendly, community-focused setting.

At White Oaks Mall, a multi-day festival brings together a wide mix of street food, local makers, and family-friendly activities. More than forty food trucks and vendors serve gourmet bites and sweet treats, while artisans present handcrafted jewelry, artwork, and other creative goods. The atmosphere is welcoming for every age, with plenty to explore and taste. Admission is free for all, and optional free tickets are available to help vendors plan.

STEAM Summer Camp: 3-Dreaming (3D Printing)

Campers spend the week moving through the complete engineering design process, beginning with sketches and digital models, building and testing prototypes, then refining their ideas. They use real design software and 3D printers, explore how different printing materials behave, and weave in art principles so creations balance form, function, and aesthetics. Careful measurement and spatial reasoning guide the modeling work from start to finish. Each participant heads home with a custom 3D printed piece they designed, a hands-on experience suited to kids who like to make things and want to understand how ideas become tangible.
