Take a creative pause at the museum with Art Break, a relaxed drop in art making program on the 5th floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts. Activities are inspired by artworks on view and are designed for teens and adults, and no experience is required. Arrive when it works for you and stay as long as you like, with most projects wrapping up in about 30 minutes. Two teaching assistants will be on hand to offer guidance and support. Participation is included with general admission, and students, educators, and LSUMOA members receive free entry. No registration is needed. Space and supplies are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. This session focuses on cardboard weaving inspired by AI: Artistic Interpretations.

Active for Autism 5K Run/Walk & Fun Fest

Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge presents its annual Active for Autism 5K Run/Walk and Family Fun Fest, focused on uplifting awareness, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum. Tea 101

At Red Stick Spice Company, Chef and Tea Sommelier Anne Milneck leads a friendly talk and guided tasting that opens up the world of tea. The session explains the Camellia sinensis leaf, clarifies the difference between true tea and herbal tisanes, and highlights how bitterness, astringency, and tannins influence flavor. Louisiana Crawfish: A Succulent History of the Cajun Crustacean

Author Sam Irwin visits the Main Library at Goodwood to share insights from his book, Louisiana Crawfish: A Succulent History of the Cajun Crustacean. The presentation looks at how the pursuit of red crawfish shapes Acadian spring and how this regional favorite grew into a $210 million industry. It highlights the dedication behind backyard boils and corporate picnics, where people brave long lines, heat, humidity, mosquitoes, and high gas prices to bring crawfish to the table. Irwin also traces the rise of Procambarus Clarkii, the red swamp crawfish, from the water to its status as a Louisiana icon. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

An Evening with Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

An immersive concert presentation reunites Emerson, Lake and Palmer through a seamless mix of archival performance and live musicianship. Developed by Carl Palmer and his team with the cooperation of the estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, it is not presented as a tribute act. Archival film from ELP’s sold-out 1992 Royal Albert Hall show features Emerson and Lake, while Palmer performs on stage with his ELP Legacy bandmates Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick. The on-screen and on-stage performances are precisely synchronized so the ensemble plays together as one for a full ELP concert experience. Formed in London in 1970, ELP brought together keyboardist Keith Emerson of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson on vocals, bass, and guitar, and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster on drums and percussion. The group earned nine RIAA gold albums in the United States and sold an estimated 48 million records worldwide. Their sound blends classical influences with jazz and symphonic rock, often highlighted by Emerson’s Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano, with several acoustic songs by Lake. A limited VIP experience includes a Q&A, one-on-one photo opportunities, and early access to autographed merchandise, limited to 50 guests. Tickets start at $70, with a $50 VIP add-on available.

Presented by Waggoner Engineering at Manship Theatre at Shaw Center for the Arts, this production brings Emerson, Lake & Palmer to the stage through a blend of archival film and live performance. Developed by Carl Palmer and his management with the cooperation of the Keith Emerson and Greg Lake estates, the concert synchronizes footage of Emerson and Lake from the sold out 1992 Royal Albert Hall show with live music from Carl Palmer and his ELP Legacy band, Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick. The result is a complete ELP concert performed in sync, presented as a faithful rendering of the band’s work rather than a traditional tribute. Keith Emerson and Greg Lake passed away in 2016, and this format reunites their performances with Palmer on stage. Formed in London in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer became one of the era’s most successful progressive rock groups, earning nine RIAA gold albums in the United States and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide. At Red Stick Spice Company, Anne leads a cooking class devoted to paella, focusing on essential techniques and confidence building in the kitchen. Explore the fundamentals that shape great paella, including making a flavorful stock, preparing sofrito, choosing Bomba rice, selecting the right pan, and working with saffron. Learn how make-ahead prep streamlines the process, how flavor develops in the pan, and how to manage heat while using your senses to guide the cooking. The class covers methods for achieving the prized socarrat so you can practice with success at home. The experience concludes with a buffet of paella, and participants receive a packet of recipes plus a 15% shopping discount. The menu features Valencian, seafood, mixed, and vegetarian versions. This class is open to ages 16 and older. Teens must attend with an adult, and each person must purchase a seat. There are no refunds. Denim Day

Denim Day comes to life with a karaoke party on the denim carpet that raises awareness and funds to support the fight against sexual assault in Louisiana. Tickets include karaoke and live music, heavy hors d'oeuvres, tea and wine, and there will be a cash bar for cocktails and beer. Guests can look forward to dancing, a step and repeat, a swag bag, door prizes, a silent auction with featured items, and a chance to walk the denim carpet. Denim attire is encouraged. Pre-sale tickets are $30, tickets at the door are $35, and student tickets are $15. A V.I.P. section is available. All funds raised support survivors of sexual assault with services, advocacy, and resources at no cost to them.

Guitarist and educator Steve Masakowski leads a New Orleans ensemble featuring vocalist Sasha Masakowski, bassist Martin Masakowski, and pianist Ulrike Antonie Sprenger. Known for improvisation that mixes deep tradition with bold creativity, this family ensemble pairs with the dynamic, deeply expressive touch of Shreveport native Brian Blade, among modern jazz’s most in-demand drummers with collaborations that span musical legends.

Singo Night

SINGO Night at Hooters on College Drive blends music and bingo for an interactive evening. Instead of numbers, participants listen for familiar songs and mark their cards as they recognize each track, which makes room for plenty of sing along moments. It is free to play, prizes are available for winners, and there is plenty of food and cold drinks to enjoy. Dr. Tasha Whitton, Professor of English and Humanities at BRCC, leads the presentation, and a reception will follow the program.

This outdoor obedience training class is designed for dogs 15 weeks and older with full puppy vaccinations. Instruction focuses on leash manners without pulling, coming when called, holding a sit or down on cue, staying quiet around people, greeting politely without jumping, and maintaining attention in a group setting. Handlers learn to teach their own dogs. Each session lasts 60 minutes and includes homework to complete during the week. Bring your usual leash and collar. Designed with Veterans, Active Military, and First Responders in mind, as well as their supporters and families, it is open to everyone. The session features functional yoga with simple, accessible postures and calming practices that emphasize breathing, gentle stretching, strength, and stability. It accommodates all bodies and abilities, can be adapted for injuries, and does not require prior experience. Instructor Brandi Hanson leads the class and has been recognized by the Historic Naval Ships Association in a Volunteer Spotlight. The museum’s yoga program has attracted international attention, including coverage from Canada and India. Please bring your own yoga mat. Research has shown that yoga and mindfulness can support physical health and healing, may lessen the effects of PTSD, anxiety, addictions, and insomnia, and can boost mindfulness, flexibility, balance, mobility, and strength. The practice takes place inside the museum in a private and welcoming setting with views of the Mississippi River and the USS KIDD. After the session, downtown features a monthly Arts Market and a weekly Farmers Market. The USS KIDD, a National Historic Landmark and Fletcher-class destroyer commissioned in 1943, survived a kamikaze strike in 1945, served during the Korean Conflict, and remained in service until 1964. The museum also presents the Louisiana Veterans Hall of Honor, a collection of ship models, and additional artifacts, with traveling exhibits that rotate throughout the year.

Drugdealer brings the Live in the USA Tour. The project, led by Michael Collins, grew out of the Los Angeles psychedelic scene and leans on smooth keyboards and soft rock melodies. Its sound recalls 1970s Laurel Canyon, delivered with the clean, precise feel of seasoned studio players. The End of Comedy and Raw Honey highlighted Collins’ songwriting and production alongside collaborators such as Weyes Blood and Ariel Pink, and the 2022 album Hiding in Plain Sight featured guests including Tim Presley and Kate Bollinger.

Lili and Matt lead a hands-on Date Night class in the Teaching Kitchen at Red Stick Spice Company, held during Hot Art Cool Nights in Mid City. Couples work side by side at their own station, each pair prepares a different dish, and everything is shared as one group meal. The menu features Chicken Paprikash with spaetzle, a pickled apple salad with blue cheese and walnuts, roasted Brussels sprouts with shaved manchego, and mini dark chocolate cakes topped with toasted meringue. Enrollment is $210 per couple and covers two people cooking together. Participants must be 18 or older. Healing with the Herd Wellness Retreat

In Baton Rouge, this two-day wellness retreat centers on equine facilitated psychotherapy to support trauma recovery. Eat the Season Cooking Class

This hands-on cooking experience at Red Stick Spice Company spotlights the freshest harvest of the moment. Each registration is $110 per person. Participants are paired at a station and collaborate on a dish that becomes part of a shared meal. Teaching Kitchen Chef Kelli leads the class, drawing on extensive restaurant and catering experience and her frequent visits to farmers markets and produce stands. The menu is built around what she sources that week, so the selection of vegetables, greens, and fruit may change with the season. The class emphasizes local sourcing from markets, produce stands, Iverstine Butcher, and Fullness Farm. Everyone receives recipes and a store discount valid for in store or online shopping. The class concludes with a full meal. A seasonal summer menu features Fig Devils on Horseback with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce, tomato bruschetta with basil, bone-in Iverstine pork chops with peach and bourbon barbecue sauce, summer greens with watermelon and feta dressed in lemon vinaigrette, roasted seasonal squash or eggplant, and berry shortcake topped with hand whipped cream. Policy notes: purchases are nonrefundable. If you cannot attend, a transfer to another class may be requested at least seven working days before the class. Drum Workshop

This 8-hour workshop is designed for ages 8 to 17 and supports a range of skill levels from beginner to advanced. Presentations and breakout sessions cover styles and genres, drum care and maintenance, approaches to recording, gear considerations, and auxiliary percussion, along with other related topics. The format offers a comprehensive overview for developing drummers.

Knight Nation Spirit Camp (4th-6th Grades)

This spirited camp is designed for students entering grades 4 through 6 and is led by instructors Dana Kahn and Erin Hoapili. Participants build cheer and dance skills while practicing jumps, stunts, chants, and choreography that celebrate Knight pride. Each session emphasizes teamwork, confidence, and fun, with engaging activities and plenty of chances to shine whether you are new to cheer or already experienced. Enrollment is open to all and does not require current enrollment at Episcopal. Enrichment and Sports Camps are refundable, minus a nonrefundable $25 deposit, through the posted deadline. Mission Day Camp

FUMC Preteen Ministry welcomes children entering 4th through 6th grades to Mission Day Camp. Each day features travel to a local site to live out their faith while serving the wider Baton Rouge community. Planned stops include the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and HOPE ministries, among others. Space is limited because of transportation restrictions. Baseball Camp (3rd-8th Grades)

Young players entering grades 3 through 8 can build their game at the Episcopal Baseball Camp with instruction led by Coach JT Blair. Training covers the core fundamentals of throwing, catching, and hitting, along with position-specific guidance and work on base running. Pitching development is adjusted to each participant’s skill level. Strategy and sportsmanship are emphasized each day, and campers take part in daily games and friendly competitions. Prince and Princess Camp

Running from June 15-18, 8:30-11:30, local princes and princesses are invited to learn dances, do arts & crafts, sing songs, and learn through dramatic play with the official studio of the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre. No dance background necessary. Snacks provided each day.

Barefoot Contessa Inspired Cooking Class

Head to Red Stick Spice Company for a hands-on cooking class inspired by Ina Garten, led by Anne and Lili. They will guide participants through recipes from her books and TV show to create a complete meal, using some of her favorite pantry staples, and yes, store bought options are welcome. Each registration is $110 per person. Attendees work in pairs at a shared station to prepare a dish for the group meal. The menu includes roasted cauliflower toast topped with prosciutto, apple cider farro salad, Jeffrey’s skillet roasted lemon chicken served with perfect potato puree, Ina’s Parmesan roasted broccoli, buttermilk cheddar biscuits, and Ina’s outrageous brownies. The class concludes with a full meal, and all students receive a store discount. Open to ages 13 and older. Teenagers must attend with an accompanying adult, and both must purchase a seat. There are no refunds. Reservations may be transferred to another class if requested at least seven working days in advance. Requests made after that window cannot be accommodated, though a reservation may be given to another person.

George Bell with Jam Session

Trumpeter, flugelhorn player, bandleader, and producer George Bell shares more than five decades of Louisiana-rooted musicianship in a special Batiste Legacy Session priced at $10. His path began in Thibodaux and includes notable milestones such as selection to the Louisiana All-State Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra, recognition as Outstanding Musician at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and multiple honors at Nicholls State University across jazz ensemble, concert band, and marching band. The program starts with the house band, then moves into conversation and music with George Bell. The night culminates in a community jam, inviting musicians to sit in and play alongside the band. It is a warm tribute to Louisiana music, mentorship, and heritage, blending stories, grooves, and shared performance.

Designed for students entering grades 2 through 6, this Physical Education Adventure Camp blends movement, friendly competition, and teamwork. Instructors Heidi Hebert and Travis Bourgeois guide campers through energetic activities that build coordination, confidence, and cooperation. Highlights include pickleball, time in the gaga ball pit with lots of dodging and quick reactions, and mat ball, a large group twist on kickball. Whether new to these games or already experienced, participants can expect active fun, skill growth, and new friendships. Campers do not need to be enrolled at Episcopal. Junior Summer Dance Intensive

Chef Anne Milneck leads a hands on exploration of classic South Louisiana cooking at Red Stick Spice Company, highlighting dishes with Cajun influences and Creole flair. Participants chop the holy trinity of onions, celery, and bell peppers, learn about the seafood and spices that define the region’s flavors, and take away techniques for quick weeknight meals or relaxed weekend entertaining. Each $110 registration is for one person, not a couple, and attendees will be paired to work at a shared station. The menu features Creole tomato salad when in season or Sensation Salad, hot shrimp remoulade, corn and pork tasso maque choux, weeknight chicken and pork sausage jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and gateau di sirop. This hands on session concludes with a full meal, and all students receive a store discount. Anne is the owner and chef of Red Stick Spice Company. She is a graduate of the John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University and serves as an adjunct instructor teaching Spices in the Professional Kitchen. Born and raised in LaPlace, she blends lessons from her mother, grandmother, and aunts with the foundations of culinary school, along with insights gained over 12 years of running the shop. This class is open to participants ages 13 and up. Teenagers must attend with an adult, and both must purchase a seat. There are no refunds. Transfer requests to move a reservation to another class must be received at least seven working days in advance. Requests made after that window cannot be accommodated. You may send another person in your place.

Summer Beginner Dance Intensive

From July 27-31, 1:00-4:30, dancers who have completed 5th grade and up are invited to learn dance technique and performance/stage presence in ballet, modern, contemporary, and dance team from the company that brought you The Nutcracker: A Tale from the Bayou.
