Summer Art Camp - Session C - Little Artists

Designed for children in kindergarten through fourth grade, this creative week invites young artists to discover a different artist each day and make original pieces inspired by that style and era. Campers experiment with a range of materials, including pastels, watercolor, tempera, chalk, colored pencils, and more, giving them plenty of chances to try new techniques and express themselves. The fee covers all supplies, high quality instruction, and daily snacks, and participants should dress for paint splatters and hands-on fun. The week concludes with a special Art Show at the studio where families can view the projects created. Price: $185 for the five day camp.

Mini Musical Summer Camps & Film Intensive

A summer of musicals and film offers four camp sessions tailored to different age groups. Ages 6–10 can take part in two separate week-long mini-musical sessions built around 101 Dalmatians Kids. Ages 11–15 have one two-week musical theatre camp featuring The Little Mermaid Junior. Ages 13–16 can explore moviemaking in the Lights, Camera, Action Film Production Camp, a summer intensive. Every day-long session concludes with a final performance or showcase in Manship Theatre. Camps are led by professionals in their fields, supported by assistants and the Manship Theatre education, film, and production teams, with a focus on creativity, learning, and the meaningful role of the arts. Early bird registration is available to family-level members and above, and sessions often sell out.

PE Adventure Camp (2nd-6th Grades)

Designed for students entering grades 2 through 6, this Physical Education Adventure Camp blends movement, friendly competition, and teamwork. Instructors Heidi Hebert and Travis Bourgeois guide campers through energetic activities that build coordination, confidence, and cooperation. Highlights include pickleball, time in the gaga ball pit with lots of dodging and quick reactions, and mat ball, a large group twist on kickball. Whether new to these games or already experienced, participants can expect active fun, skill growth, and new friendships. Campers do not need to be enrolled at Episcopal. Enrichment and Sports Camps are refundable minus a nonrefundable $25 deposit if canceled before the refund deadline. After the deadline, fees are nonrefundable. Registration closes on the Thursday prior to the start of camp, and late additions cannot be accommodated.

Designed for beginners ages 8 to 12, this Rock 101 camp offers a friendly introduction to playing in a band. Campers explore instruments through interactive games and activities, learn songs together over the course of the week, and build confidence without needing any prior experience. Middle School Tennis Camp (6th-8th Grades)

We the People Exhibition Opening Reception

Capitol Park Museum hosts the opening reception for We the People, a large immersive media installation by Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Steven G. Smith that portrays contemporary American identity. Across a pair of large screens measuring 12 feet in height and 36 feet in width, close to 200 carefully sequenced paired images unfold like pages of an enormous book, shifting from rural landscapes to urban scenes and from quiet introspection to lively communal celebration. Rather than focusing on breaking news, Smith’s attentive observations highlight meaningful moments from everyday life that suggest values shared across differences. The exhibition also includes American flag themed objects from the Louisiana State Museum collection, adding a tangible dimension to questions of identity, patriotism, and national symbolism. The Friends of the Capitol Park Museum sponsor the opening reception, which includes drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Admission is free and open to the public, and registration is encouraged because space is limited.

LSU College of Art & Design opens Glassell Gallery as a place to experiment, make, and connect with resident artists Rachel Parish and Edem Dake. Visitors can drop in to explore personal projects, join special workshops, and collaborate on community pieces shaped by the artists’ guidance. Hands-on activities center on memory, migration, material change, and connection through creative practice. Working across clay, paper, photography, textiles, plants, and printmaking, participants craft both individual and shared artifacts rooted in storytelling and sensory experience. Possibilities include mapping family histories, shaping vessels inspired by the body, turning worn clothing into handmade paper, blending botanical scents and teas, repairing garments with embroidery, and using alternative photographic methods to capture traces of presence. Honor Flight Louisiana presents an evening at Martin’s in Baton Rouge that pays tribute to veterans through a tasting of 21 specially selected wines, a nod to the ceremonial 21 gun salute. Attendees can hear personal accounts from veterans who recently took part in an Honor Flight trip and learn how community support helps send them to Washington, DC to visit the memorials built in their honor at no cost. Teams from eight different states will gather in Louisiana at Traction Sports Complex for a high-level invitational showcase featuring participation from more than 30 college programs. Once Upon a Castle: Storytime & Puppet Theatre

Louisiana’s Old State Capitol presents a new monthly program that is free for toddlers, young children, and their caregivers, featuring storytime paired with a lively puppet theatre. Each session opens with interactive picture books that build imagination, followed by a puppetry performance written, built, and performed by the museum’s creative team. This installment spotlights Grits the Opossum, the museum mascot, leading a tale inspired by “Mama Opossum’s Misadventures” by Gina Gallois. In the story, Mama Roux tumbles from a tree and is separated from her five joeys, Biscuit, Cheddar, Maple, Pepper, and Beignet, and needs help finding them before daylight. Children follow her search through the bayou, meeting neighbors like a buzzing honeybee, a baby armadillo, a sneaky snake, and a tiny rabbit, and racing to keep Beignet safe as a large barred owl looks for breakfast. The kickoff program connects with the museum’s traveling exhibits “Excursions, Expeditions, and ‘Discoveries:’ A Young Nation Expands” and “Reimagining America: The Maps of Lewis and Clark,” introducing ideas about cartography, nature, and exploration through play. After the performance, families can continue learning in the galleries. Children are encouraged to come in their favorite castle themed outfits to add to the magic.

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum hosts its annual Dino Day, a museum-wide celebration of prehistoric discovery for all ages. Meet a paleontologist, get a close look at "Jason," a 66-million-year-old Triceratops skull loaned by Raising Cane’s and the Todd Graves Family, and explore hands-on activities with community partners. The Irene W. Pennington Planetarium features immersive dinosaur-themed shows, including T. Rex. General museum admission includes all Dino Day activities, and LASM members receive free entry. This year also marks ten years of "Jason" at the museum.

Bring the cozy flavors of your favorite café into your own kitchen in a hands-on cooking class focused on make-ahead techniques, satisfying sips, and delicious bites. Participants prepare and enjoy a full menu inspired by coffee shop classics. The class is led by Yvette, a graduate of Nicholls State University’s John Folse Culinary Institute. She also holds a Hospitality and Tourism master’s from UNO and is a Certified Specialist of Wine. Yvette teaches Family and Consumer Sciences at St. Joseph Academy and, through her Pink Flamingo Cooking Co, shares her love of food and wine through pairing sessions and cooking classes. The menu includes a twice baked pistachio croissant, chai scones finished with an espresso glaze, rosemary goat cheese biscuits with blackberry preserves, a maple bacon breakfast sammy, oat milk cold brew with cinnamon cardamom simple syrup, and a honey lavender café au lait. This hands-on experience concludes with a complete meal, and participants receive a store discount. Open to ages 13 and up. Teen participants must attend with an adult, and both the teen and accompanying adult need their own purchased seats. The class can be given as a gift, with a printable cooking class certificate available for recipients. All sales are final. Reservation transfers may be requested at least seven working days before the class to move to another session. After that window, transfers are not available, though a participant may send someone in their place.

Cajun Creole Cooking Class

Chef Anne Milneck leads a hands on exploration of classic South Louisiana cooking at Red Stick Spice Company, highlighting dishes with Cajun influences and Creole flair. Participants chop the holy trinity of onions, celery, and bell peppers, learn about the seafood and spices that define the region’s flavors, and take away techniques for quick weeknight meals or relaxed weekend entertaining. Each $110 registration is for one person, not a couple, and attendees will be paired to work at a shared station. The menu features Creole tomato salad when in season or Sensation Salad, hot shrimp remoulade, corn and pork tasso maque choux, weeknight chicken and pork sausage jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and gateau di sirop. This hands on session concludes with a full meal, and all students receive a store discount. Anne is the owner and chef of Red Stick Spice Company. Capturing America: The Carol Highsmith Story - Free Film Screening

LPB and Louisiana's Old State Capitol present a free screening of Capturing America: The Carol Highsmith Story, a documentary chronicling photographer Carol Highsmith’s mission to create a lasting portrait of the nation. For more than four decades she has traveled the country, photographing all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, documenting American life from the late 20th century into the 21st. The film follows her through six states as she nears completion of this work. When finished, her collection is projected to include 100,000 images housed at the Library of Congress, available copyright and royalty free. The program features a reception with refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, a screening, and a follow-up discussion. Carol and her husband Ted will take questions alongside independent filmmaker Kristen Akers and director of photography Paul Jacobson, in conversation with LPB Executive Producer Linda Midgett. The program also includes a special performance by New Orleans jazz artist John Boutté, who appears in the film. While at the Old State Capitol, visitors can see the Louisiana Purchase agreement on display, a rare viewing that marks only the second time it has been exhibited there. Admission is free, and registration is required due to limited seating.

At Red Stick Spice Company, Eat the Season offers an interactive cooking experience that ties everyday dishes to what local farms are producing right now. Guided by Teaching Kitchen Chef Kelli, whose background spans restaurants and catering and whose weekly market runs inform the menu, you will cook with produce sourced from area markets and stands as well as Iverstine Butcher and Fullness Farm. The exact mix of vegetables, greens, and fruit is determined by what looks best that week, and the class evolves with the solstice to spotlight peak flavors. Enrollment is $110 per person. 69th Louisiana Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship presented by Cajun Country Rice

Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge hosts a stroke play championship over 54 holes to crown the top male junior golfer in Louisiana. Competitors ages 10 to 18 may enter the Overall Championship or choose an Age-Group Championship played over 36 holes, with groupings that include Boys 10 to 11 and 12 to 13. The field is limited to the first 156 entries, and each participant selects a division during registration. The entry fee is $175. Eligibility requires Louisiana residency for at least 90 days prior to the championship, amateur status under USGA rules, and membership in an LGA Member Club in good standing. Entries may be refused at any point, including during the event, for reasons such as unbecoming conduct. Caddies are not allowed. Players carry their own clubs, and pull carts are permitted. Proper golf attire is required, including Bermuda-length shorts. Santa Maria Golf Course is a spikeless facility, so spikeless shoes are mandatory. Practice privileges are extended to participants at Santa Maria Golf Course. Awards recognize the top three finishers in each Age-Group Championship. The Overall Championship will be divided into a minimum of two flights, with prizes to the top three in each flight. The Junior Amateur Champion also earns an invitation to the Junior River Cup and receives a $400 gift certificate redeemable at the Santa Maria Golf Course Golf Shop. Additional recognition includes the Boys Champion being fully exempt, with the top five earning 12 performance stars, the top ten earning 8, and the top fifteen earning 4. Refunds are available with written notice before entries close, and after entries close only in the case of injury or illness accompanied by a doctor’s statement. A $35 service charge applies to all refunds. Player dinner details will be announced. Through an LGA partnership, competitors can receive a 20 percent discount on Strakaline yardage and green booklets. Play is governed by the current USGA Rules of Golf and the LGA Rules of Play Card, with all decisions by the LGA Rules Committee final. Automotive transportation is not permitted. A 1000 point Bolt Action tournament at Little Wars will run under Warlord Games’ Bolt Action Version 3. Armies must follow official list-building rules, may draw from all current army books and official PDF army lists, and should incorporate the latest errata and FAQs. Each force is limited to 15 Order Dice. Participation is capped at 20 players. Entry is $15 for BRSMG members and $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is available in person with the organizer or by email. Registration takes place before the first round. Scenarios will be selected in advance by the organizer, will change each round, and will be the same across all tables for that round. Brit Floyd brings The Moon, The Wall and Beyond to Raising Cane's River Center, a new production that salutes Pink Floyd's landmark albums The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. Buck Meek with Kisser at Chelsea’s Live

A newly announced show at Chelsea’s Live features Buck Meek with Kisser. Meek’s fourth solo album, The Mirror, his second release on 4AD, leans into tenderness and vulnerability while approaching the unfamiliar with curiosity. The music invites reflection and prioritizes thoughtful questions over easy conclusions. Raised in Wimberley, Texas, Meek began performing at thirteen as a rhythm guitarist for Memphis bluesman Brandon Gist, keeping a temperamental amp going mid-set, and went on to play everything from Manouche and Romanian waltzes to ragtime, western swing, rock and roll, and his own songs in both traditional venues and unconventional spaces. He moved to Boston to study jazz and found a circle of peers focused on songwriting and house shows, then relocated to New York, where he met Adrianne Lenker. The two traveled the country sharing their music before forming Big Thief.

of Montreal brings a kaleidoscopic indie pop spectacle to Chelsea’s Live with support from Sloppy Jane. Fronted by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Barnes, the band has spent almost thirty years reshaping pop with a vivid mix of glam rock, psychedelia, funk, and synth-forward sounds. Emerging from the Elephant 6 scene in the late ’90s, they built a devoted following for inventive songwriting and wildly theatrical performances. LA Theatre Festival 2026

Group registration is open for the 2nd Annual Louisiana Theatre Fest hosted by 225 Theatre Collective. Set at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center in downtown Baton Rouge, the festival invites schools, nonprofits, community theatres, organizations, and actor groups from across the state to take part in a statewide celebration of the arts. A total of 12 groups will be accepted to present either an original piece or a scene from the public domain, with festival prizes on offer. The event spans a full day with a schedule that includes workshops, classes, and live performances. Each participating group must include at least two actors, and participants of all ages are welcome. Registration provides access to festival classes along with lunch for registered participants, and an early bird group rate of $100 is available. Space is limited for performing groups.

Anne teams up with James and Theresa from Red Stick Reads to guide a candid conversation that looks past the glossy image of “tradwife” influencers and examines curated online personas, performative womanhood, and survival across past and present, including the aesthetic, the twists, the truths and lies, and that unforgettable ending. The format is a hybrid hands-on class with a cooking demonstration, with about 30 minutes spent at the stove before shifting into the discussion.
