Solstice Community Potluck and Contra Dance for Peaks Fest
Celebrate the longest day with a community contra dance that highlights the joys of life on an island in Maine and expresses gratitude for the people who make up this community. Families, friends, and neighbors are welcome. The event features Owen Marshall and Liana Wolk. Please bring a dish or a beverage to share. Contra dancing is open to everyone, with no partner or experience required. Enjoy the music, the view, and the good vibes. This is a free community event.
Peaks Island Lions ClubCasserole + Serving Dish Workshop
Explore functional pottery with Julie Cunningham in a hands-on session focused on creating a simple oval serving or casserole dish from high-fire clay. Use slab-building techniques and helpful templates to shape your piece, practice rolling even slabs by hand, and get familiar with the studio slab roller. Design a fitted, flat, or gently domed lid and experiment with different handle styles to add both utility and character. Stamps and texture tools will be available to personalize the surface. This workshop welcomes beginners and those with prior clay experience. All clay and tools are included, and participants may bring their own tools if they prefer. Finished work will stay at the studio for bisque firing, which hardens the clay and prepares it for glazing, and can be picked up later. For an additional $10, participants may select one glaze color and studio staff will complete the glaze firing. Please bring snacks, something to drink, clothing or an apron that can get messy, and a hand towel.
