Community Access Line of the Lakeshore, also known as CALL 211, will be at Hackley Public Library to offer in person support from a Community Resource Specialist. They help connect people with a wide range of assistance, including food and household items, mental health services, employment support, financial aid and help with bills, transportation, housing, legal resources, and health care, along with other local options. Maritime Days @ White River Light Station

Join White River Light Station during White Lake Maritime Days for free lighthouse tower climbs and free admission to the light station museum. Visitors can enjoy views from the top of the tower overlooking White Lake, Lake Michigan, and the connecting channel. The site is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the lighthouse tours are self-guided on a first-come, first-served basis, with no RSVP needed. Families are welcome, and children can pick up a free activity book during their visit.

Tally Ho! Nature Adventure Awaits!

Head to Thatcher Park for a Nature Cat inspired outing that encourages exploration and hands-on discovery. Activities like this take place at parks around the county, offering new places to explore and fresh learning experiences each day. The exhibit Nature Cat: Backyard and Beyond was developed by the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago in Glenview, Illinois. Walk-In Vaccine Event

Bring your pet to a walk-in vaccination clinic that does not require an appointment and operates on a first come, first served basis. The team works to keep the process moving quickly, and patience is appreciated since quality of care will not be reduced. Dogs must arrive on secure leashes and retractable leashes are not allowed. Cats need to be in carriers, and leashes or carriers can be provided at check-in if needed. For a smooth start, keep your pet in your vehicle while you check in. Pets must be healthy to receive vaccines, and only the services offered at this clinic are available, not emergency care or sick pet appointments. Complimentary core vaccines include canine DHPP and feline HCP, with additional vaccines and services available. Those who cannot attend can schedule routine appointments, as new clients are accepted year round. Support from Petco Love helps make this community service possible.

Live music with Mike Struwin spotlights a Michigan native whose songs blend alt country, blues, bluegrass, roots, folk, soul, and even a touch of reggae into a sound that is distinctly his. He began making music at thirteen on the piano, soon moved to guitar, and released his first CD at seventeen with his high school band Steamboat Willie. His catalog includes Out of the Blue (2002), Roots Down (2005), Storyline (2008), Forgotten Hymns (2010), and Ginger Peach (2021). The Americana pulse and soulful flourishes of Roots Down earned national recognition, leading to soundtrack placements in the independent films Beautiful (2006, Imagine Afrika Productions) and Gringo Wedding (2006, Stepping Stone Productions). A devoted live performer, he has toured from Michigan to Colorado, was named Kalamazoo Acoustic Idol in 2004, and has shared stages with Greensky Bluegrass, The Wailers, Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise, and members of Umphrey’s McGee and The David Crosby Band. Struwin is also the author of the children’s book Campfire Stu & The Backwoods Jamboree (2017), released with an album of original kids songs. Balancing family life and teaching with regional touring, he has built a following at venues and craft breweries along the Michigan coast. With more than 25 years of performing behind him, he is known for strong sets that leave audiences eager for the next song.

Summer Homeschool Beach Days- RESCHEDULED TO AUGUST

Enjoy a relaxed day at Duck Lake State Park Beach along the Lake Michigan shoreline, connecting with other homeschooling families by the water. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry and can be purchased at the gate, or street parking is available outside the park. If parking inside, use the first lot, then follow the boardwalk trail to reach the beach. Pack a cooler and bring your beach gear. Families can come and go at times that work best for them, and there are additional beach days planned for those who want more time by the lake.

August Wine School: Pinot Noir Camp

Wine School turns its attention to Pinot Noir with a session dedicated to tasting and discovery. A wine expert will guide attendees through five pours paired with three small plates, explaining what sets each wine apart. Tickets are $55 per person and include the wines and food, with a 20% automatic gratuity and 6% tax added. Seating is limited and tickets are available online on a first-come, first-served basis. Summer Play & Learn

Join a free “Little Learners” Play and Learn program at the Lakeshore Museum Center, designed for Muskegon County infants and toddlers ages 0 to 4. Families will enjoy story time and themed free play activities, along with songs, sensory and motor-skill stations, art, and more. The Water theme means you are welcome to bring bathing suits and water shoes for activities that may get little learners wet, and some time outside may be included if weather permits. Registration is required for everyone attending, including caregivers and siblings, and each session runs about 50 to 60 minutes. Families also receive a free book to take home along with special crafts and activities.

Let There Be Rock and ZZ Rox deliver a high-energy lineup of classic anthems that will keep the park buzzing. Hosted by the Muskegon Sports Council, the celebration benefits local athletics and community organizations. Expect free live music, local food vendors, and a no-cost kids zone for family fun, continuing a long-standing tradition of bringing neighbors together and supporting area nonprofits.

Explore epoxy techniques on wood in a hands-on workshop that runs about 90 minutes and focuses on practical skills, helpful tips, and creating your own one-of-a-kind piece. After the pour cures, a short follow-up session of about 30 minutes is offered at pickup to demonstrate finishing steps. This usually happens the next day, and scheduling is flexible. The fee is $30 per person, with a $10 minimum deposit due when you register. Registration includes the materials and tools needed to complete one project. Online registration is required by the Friday before your preferred date, though you may pay at the workshop. If the minimum of one registration is not met, the class will be canceled and a notice will appear on the Facebook event page by the Friday prior. If you did not register in advance, please confirm the class is still on before attending. This workshop is suitable for ages 12 and up, with an adult required for ages 12 to 14. Capacity is limited to eight participants. If it is full when you sign up, you will be notified promptly and arrangements can be made for a future date. With nearly two decades in the field, he has presented at national, state, and local events, including programs for the Federation of Genealogical Societies, National Genealogical Society, Ohio Genealogical Society, the Historical Society of Michigan, the Indiana Historical Society, and numerous local genealogical societies and public libraries. His past leadership roles include vice president of membership for the Federation of Genealogical Societies and president of the Mid-Michigan Genealogical Society. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan, the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, and the Historical Society of Michigan. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts in History from Western Michigan University.

Pedal For Paws Pub Crawl 2026

Now in its second year, this biking pub crawl sets off from Harley Davidson and rolls through Downtown Muskegon to raise funds for local animal rescues. Proceeds are shared equally among Big Lake Humane Society, Faithful to Felines, Heaven Can Wait, and Pound Buddies, supporting food, medical care, and second chances for homeless pets in the community. Participants can choose from several registration options. The Standard registration is $50 and includes event entry, an exclusive Pub Pedal branded item filled with gifts from rescues and sponsors, raffle tickets, and a paw print lanyard with an event map. The Rescue Rider option is $100 and adds a raffle ticket for the “Kennel of Spirits” prize along with a voucher for the T-shirt bar. Groups can opt for the Pack Rider Team registration at $250, which covers six riders for the price of five and provides all Standard benefits to each team member. The session also covers the science of gut health and its connection to overall wellness, considerations for those with the MTHFR gene mutation such as choosing methylated vitamins and limiting enriched foods, simple daily swaps that support long-term habits, and natural approaches to better health. This team tournament features six games of qualifying split between Northway Lanes and Sherman Bowling Center. Each team bowls three games on three different pairs at the first center, then completes three more games at the other, and total pinfall across all six games determines the standings. There is no match play. The entry fee is $360 per team. A minimum of one in five entries will earn a payout. The format is built around a full field of 50 teams. If that field fills quickly, an additional squad may be added to run at the same time at the other center, with squads switching locations for their second set of games.

Ruff Ruck Challenge 2026 | Ruck or Walk for Veteran Service Dogs

Walk, ruck, or roll with a purpose at Wonderland Distilling Co. as a community effort raises crucial support for pairing rescued dogs with veterans and first responders. Now in its fourth year, the event sets a $100,000 goal, which would push the all-time total past a quarter million. There are three ways to take part. The Ruff Ruck Challenge covers 12 miles with a 35 pound minimum that is verified at check-in, with separate divisions for vest and ruck to keep the competition fair. Finish the challenge and receive a dog tag at the line. The Frontline Challenge is a team effort where four people split 100 pounds over the same distance, using vests, rucks, or both, with no cutoff and a captain who is an active or retired first responder or military member. The Freedom Walk welcomes every pace and any distance with a rolling start, whether you bring a stroller, kids, grandparents, or a well-behaved dog, with or without extra weight. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome on the course and participants are responsible for their water. Registration is $25 in advance and $35 on the day of the event. Check-in and weigh-ins precede an opening ceremony and step off, and later in the day awards, a raffle, and silent auction winners will be announced. The event goes on rain or shine, and the venue provides cover if weather turns. Fundraising fuels the mission, with individual, team, and business pages climbing leaderboards. Milestones matter: raising $500 rescues a shelter dog in your name, $3,000 starts service dog training, and $10,000 carries one dog all the way from shelter to service beside a veteran. Recognition at these levels mirrors sponsor spotlights, offered to participants who want it. Supporters who cannot attend can still help by launching a fundraising page or making a donation. Veterans and first responders can apply for a service dog year-round. Cameras will be rolling for A Life Worth Rescuing, a documentary by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Steven Devon, capturing the lead-up and the event itself, and attendees may appear on film.
