Challenge your 90s knowledge with a trivia event that invites you and your friends to form a team and choose a playful name. Relive the era of flannel, Fresh Prince, and flip phones as you rewind through the decade together.

Raku Firing

Experience Raku pottery at Art Zone, with a selection of vases, frogs, turtles and more created by Art Zone artists to glaze and fire. Reserve a firing slot in advance for $5, then choose an item on site, with most pieces adding $10 to $15 payable at the door. Plan to arrive about 45 minutes before your firing slot to glaze your piece. You may also bring your own item to fire, provided it is bisque fired and suitable for Raku, preferably a groggy clay body. Pricing is $5 for a piece that is already glazed, or $8 if using studio glazes. Studio members pay $3 per item, with glaze and firing included. Firing times are not guaranteed, so plan to spend some time outdoors and bring snacks. Open to ages 16 and up. Because this activity involves fire, wear closed toe shoes and consider jeans.

West Coast Swing Basics Bootcamp

Learn the fundamentals of West Coast Swing in a focused basics bootcamp that builds confidence on the social floor. The session covers core patterns, technique, and partner connection at a brisk pace, giving newcomers a solid start while helping returning dancers refine and strengthen their foundation. Admission is $20 per person, paid at the door, with cash preferred. SwingSpringfield and VIP members receive a $15 rate. Dancers who have taken the West Coast Swing series classes and qualify for repeat 6-week series discounts can apply those savings to this boot camp as well. Expect practical instruction and plenty of movement so you leave ready to dance.

OMRR's Frisco Railroad Run

OMRR’s Frisco Railroad Run features five distance options, from 8K up to 50 miles. Runners will find well supplied aid stations along the route and refreshments waiting at the finish. It welcomes those aiming for a personal record as well as participants who simply want to enjoy miles on the trail. Proceeds support local track and field clubs and Ozarks Greenways. The event takes place at Willard Middle School.

Tremendicon Qualifier

This qualifier features a $30 draft where participants compete to become the store’s champion for a tournament at Tremendicon. The store winner receives prizes, and the grand champion earns additional prizes.

USAC NON WINGED MRA SPRINT CARS Aubren Dudley Memorial

The USAC MRA Sprint Car Series makes its debut appearance with traditional non wing sprint cars and a classic throwback style. Regional drivers go wheel to wheel in tight quarters, with an emphasis on fierce competition, a welcoming experience for fans, and a true grassroots atmosphere. Expect daring passes, side by side battles, and an authentic sprint car showcase. This memorial event honors Aubren Dudley, who devoted her life to connecting foster children with loving families. She died in a work-related car accident on July 24, 2024 and is survived by five foster children. In her honor, FosterAdopt Connect will be in attendance to share its mission of advocacy and innovative programs that support and empower foster youth, their families, and alumni of the child welfare system. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will benefit FosterAdopt Connect.

West Coast Swing Dance Social

A night dedicated to West Coast Swing brings a relaxed, stylish vibe and plenty of fun. Expect a dance floor centered on connection and musicality with that distinctive stretchy groove, and a touch of other styles if requested. There is no lesson on the schedule, so it is all social dancing. Settle into the music, try new styling, connect with partners, and keep moving as long as your energy lasts. Admission is $10 per person, or $5 for Dance With Me students and Swing Springfield Swing Club members. Bar service is available and accepts cash or card.

A group run that welcomes all runners gathers outside Springfield Brewing Company in a show-and-go format. When available, Chris Farrar and Bill Thompson lead, otherwise the plan is decided by those present. An established 6.25 mile route highlights shaded sections along Pickwick. Participants choose their own distance and pace, whether building a long effort or keeping it short and easy, and can break away whenever it fits their plan. A practical option for runners who prefer company to solo miles.

Devon Allman’s Blues Summit

Devon Allman’s Blues Summit comes to the Historic Gillioz Theatre, uniting the Devon Allman Project with Larry McCray and Jimmy Hall. Hall, known from Wet Willie and collaborations with Jeff Beck, brings expressive harmonica work and commanding vocals. McCray adds soulful guitar and storytelling that connects with audiences. Guided by Devon Allman, the performance explores blues from its gritty roots through its evolution to its vibrant future, highlighting the energy and emotion of blues and soul.

Annual Master Gardener Plant sale 2026

This annual plant sale showcases high quality selections grown and donated by local Master Gardeners and gardening groups. Dance Fest

This event celebrates International Dance Fitness Day with a full day of complimentary Jazzercise classes. The lineup includes VitalSculpt HIIT focused on high-intensity intervals with muscle-building and cardio bursts, Stretch30 for flexibility, CardioSculpt60 combining dance cardio and strength training, Sculpt45 to tone and strengthen, and CardioSculpt HIIT60. 2026 Missouri State University Open

Co-hosted by the Joplin Chess Club and the MSU Chess Club, this over-the-board tournament features five rounds using a Swiss system with a 90-minute time control and a 15-second delay. Two rating sections are offered and may be merged if needed for pairings. The prize fund totals $1,600 based on 30 fully paid entries. Awards in the Upper section for ratings 1400 and above are $400 for first, $300 for second, $150 for third, and $100 for the top player under 1600. The Reserve section for players under 1400 offers $300 for first, $200 for second, $100 for third, and $50 for the top unrated participant. Players within 100 rating points of a section cutoff may elect to play up. A single half-point bye is available if requested by round two. MCA membership is required and can be purchased on site starting at $5. Competitors are expected to have an active US Chess membership, which can be handled online in advance or purchased in person with cash. The entry fee is $30. Scholastic players in grades K–12 may compete for rating only at half the standard entry. Advance registration is required. Registration by email is accepted, and on-site payments are cash only. Entry fees may also be paid by check made out to Martin Stahl and sent by mail. Online payment is available. Sequiota Park Conservation Workdays 🌱🪏 2026

Pitch in on a two-hour conservation effort at Sequiota Park that blends learning with hands-on work. Caleb Sanders, Conservation Coordinator for the Park Board, will share the history of Galloway and Sequiota Park, then lead volunteers in removing invasive winter creeper along the Galloway Creek Greenway north of the park to support reforestation along the trail. No registration is required. Participants meet at Sequiota Park between the north parking lot and the trail. Wear long pants and bring work gloves, insect repellent, and a water bottle. All other tools are provided.

Flow Fest SGF 2026

Flow Fest SGF returns for its second year at The Barley House at Moon Town Crossing with a full day devoted to holistic health and wellness. The schedule features 15 workshops, 20 vendors focused on holistic health, and a mix of live music and DJ sets. Offerings include yoga, breathwork, sound healing, and somatic practices, with sessions designed to support mind, body, and spirit. Centered on the idea that wellness begins within and flourishes through community, the festival also provides opportunities to connect with others and discover helpful resources. Set in Ritter Springs Park, this story-focused gathering centers around a rented pavilion that serves as the base of operations. Every attendee brings a distinct perspective, helping shape a cooperative tale as the event unfolds. Total 40K - A Warhammer 40,000 Day to Build and Play

Enjoy a full day dedicated to every side of the Warhammer 40,000 hobby with the Meta-Games staff, and take part for free. Complete hobby milestones to earn raffle tickets, then stay for the prize drawing at the end of the event. Tickets can be earned by purchasing a model with a receipt from that day, assembling one from sprue to a finished build, painting a primed model to completion, adding basing to take a figure from unbased to finished, and playing a game such as Combat Patrol or a larger matchup. Each task may be done twice to collect up to two tickets per activity, and a store employee will check your progress before you start and after you finish. West African Dance Class

A special African dance class welcomes guest instructor Vanessa Gibbs from Kansas City to lead participants through the core movements of Kuku, a lively celebration dance grounded in community and connection. With decades devoted to studying, performing, and teaching West African dance, including training in Senegal, Vanessa offers both depth and authenticity. Participants will learn Kuku choreography while also exploring when and why it is danced within its cultural context. Live drumming sets the pulse, provided by the Rhythm Without Borders Beginning/Intermediate West African Drum Class led by Neil Landau, who brings over 30 years of West African drum experience and training by MBemba Bangoura and Michael Markus. The dialogue between drummer and dancer creates a charged atmosphere, each beat cueing the body and each step answering the rhythm. This class welcomes beginners and requires no prior experience. Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement, and consider adding a wrap skirt or sarong over exercise wear for color and extra flow. Capacity is limited to 20 participants and may sell out, so early registration is encouraged. Expect an immersive experience that supports self-expression, builds confidence, and fosters connection through movement and sound.

Gather in the coffee shop inside the Fairbanks School for a welcoming Spanish conversation meetup. Speakers and learners of every level come together to practice speaking in a relaxed setting. The focus is conversation using Spanish learned elsewhere, and there is no formal instruction. Bring a dictionary or translation app if helpful. You are welcome to bring your own beverage and a snack to share, and feel free to invite friends.

Weekly Miniatures Paint Night & Frostgrave League

Each week, hobbyists gather for a relaxed Miniatures Paint Night, bringing along their current projects to paint in good company. Painting often continues beyond the official wrap up as people keep working together. The event also includes the Frostgrave League on the same day. The game is minis agnostic, so participants can use figures they already own. Choose a Wizard and an Apprentice, then dive into a race for treasure.

Youth Art Classes in April

At the Nixa Parks and Recreation Community Center, youth art classes focus on creating light-up jellyfish sculptures from recycled plastic bottles. Participants use water bottles, fairy lights, beads, iridescent ribbon, and other supplies, choosing their own combinations so each piece reflects their style. Each session includes two classes devoted to this project, and students take home a completed jellyfish at the end. Designed for ages 6 to 13, these sessions are offered twice per month. Registration is open now until the Thursday before each session begins or until the 16-participant limit is reached. The fee is $45 per session.

Magic the Gathering - Pauper Commander

West African Drumming Lessons

A beginning to intermediate class in West African drumming explores traditional djembe and dundun rhythms from the Malinke and Soussou peoples of Guinea. Instruction is designed to welcome all experience levels, with a focus on making these time-honored arrangements approachable and engaging. There is no charge for the first month of classes. Studying these traditions is presented as a meaningful way to practice the Five Principles of Unity and may support growth in areas such as confidence, memory, coordination, listening, creativity, communication, teamwork, community building, musicality, and staying present. Participants may also experience relaxation, a healthy workout, a natural boost in endorphins, a deeper sense of human connection, and the development of new neural pathways. Evidence-based literature is cited as linking bilateral rhythm practice with benefits that can assist with recovery related to trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and other challenges. The class is led by Neil, a percussionist with more than two decades of experience in West African drumming. His training includes study with Ibrahima Camara of the National Ballet of Senegal, M’Bemba Bangoura of Ballet Djoliba in Guinea, Michael Markus of Magbana Drum and Dance in New York, and Bowrodo and Laurent Camara of Ballet Africains, as well as other principal members of Ballet Africains, Ballet Djoliba, and Ballet Tayeli. He spent six months in residence studying in Conakry, Guinea, and worked in New York for 12 years, performing at Central Park SummerStage, Times Square’s Nokia Theater, and S.O.B.’s for sold-out audiences. He began teaching theater and music appreciation to children as a teenager at the Pinon Canyon Center in Tijeras Canyon, New Mexico, and also teaches English and computers. Known for a warm, supportive style that brings beginners and advanced players together, he aims for the right mix of challenge and encouragement and remains a lifelong student of Guinean traditions.

Film Classes for Youth, Spring 2026

A new Intro to Filmmaking option welcomes aspiring creators ages 9 to 13, focusing on collaboration, the building blocks of story, and the basics of camera use and editing. Students team up to craft short projects, with plenty of room for play and creative exploration. Youth who are 13 can enroll in this or the teen offering, depending on what suits their maturity. The Film Production class serves ages 13 to 18 and invites both beginners and returning students to dive deeper into cinematic storytelling. From studying great filmmakers to pitching original ideas, participants move from concept to script and ultimately produce a longer project over the semester. Along the way they practice acting, screenwriting, directing, recording sound, editing video, and designing a movie poster. Thirteen year olds may choose this class or the younger option as the best fit. Across both tracks, the program builds problem solving, literacy with technology and the written word, original storytelling, teamwork, leadership, and follow through. Student work is celebrated with a theatrical screening at the Student Film Showcase at the Historic Fox Theatre. Tuition for Intro to Filmmaking is $290 for the full semester, or four payments of $75, and includes access to the editing and screenwriting software used in class. 24th Annual The BIG Taste

Tuesday Night Run Group sets out from Galloway Grill, just south of Sequoita Park. The planned distance is about six miles, but participants can choose any distance and pace, and walking is welcome. One option heads north through the park to Pershing Elementary before turning back to the starting point. Another option goes south to the boat dock, links with the Trail of Honor, and returns to the grill, which also comes out to roughly six miles. During spring, summer, and fall when daylight saving starts, the group meets and runs from Galloway Grill. In winter when daylight saving ends, the group meets and runs from Fleet Feet.

Round out the feast with coconut rice and a crisp mango and cucumber salad, then finish with a passionfruit-inspired dessert. Route 66 Centennial Traveling Exhibit Kickoff

Honoring the heritage of the Mother Road, known as America’s Main Street, the Route 66 Centennial Traveling Exhibit arrives in Springfield, Missouri with a free, public showcase at The Gallery. The exhibition commemorates two major milestones, a century of Route 66 and 250 years of the United States, weaving local stories into a broader national narrative. Programming includes a conversation featuring Kaisa Barthuli, former longtime leader of the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, with Irv Logan and Elizabeth Calvin sharing the history of their grandmother, Alberta Ellis, and her hotel, an essential stop for Black travelers listed in the Green Book. Kathleen Seale, SHSMO Rolla and Springfield Coordinator, explores the Rotoscope film process pioneered by Missouri Route 66 entrepreneur Rowe Carney, Jr. of Rolla and collaborator Tom Smith of Urbana, featuring rare footage and film equipment. An acoustic set by Township and Range is part of the lineup, and there is an opportunity to meet the team behind the project, including filmmaker Katrina Parks, producer Kari Kussmann, Missouri Route 66 Association CFO Larry Sernyk, and association president Jeremy Morris. Support comes from the Missouri Route 66 Centennial Commission, Missouri Humanities, the Missouri Route 66 Association, the Gillioz, and additional partners, and the exhibit continues to travel to communities along Route 66 to highlight their histories within the larger American story.

Women's MTB Retreat

At Two Rivers Bike Park, this women’s mountain bike retreat brings together certified coaches for a full weekend of trail riding and focused skills development to elevate confidence and technique. It begins Friday evening with a welcome gathering. Saturday starts with yoga, followed by structured clinics and coach-guided group rides, then closes with tech talks by the campfire. Sunday moves into more advanced techniques and additional time on the trails, concluding after lunch. The retreat is open to riders of every ability, and groups are organized to match skill levels. Instruction ranges from foundational body positioning to advanced cornering and jumping. Lunch is provided on Saturday and Sunday, with dinner on Saturday night, and vegetarian and gluten free options are available. Presented as part of the National Route 66 Centennial Kickoff Celebration by Vital Farms, this large-scale procession features classic vehicles limited to model years 1926 through 1985, reflecting the years the highway was an official U.S. route. The lineup includes hot rods, gleaming cruisers, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, and other iconic rides that shaped generations of road trips. Each vehicle carries its own story, and together they form a moving salute to 100 years of American travel. Those interested in participating can register to be part of the parade.

The evening features the opening reception of Landscape Mindscape Escape by J.D. Hull in the Main Gallery. The exhibition considers landscape as both a wide cinematic frame and a place to look toward a horizon, like a garden or grove. It turns inward to the mindscape, where impressions settle, shift, and return, taking shape in oil paint. Escape serves as an invitation, and together these works offer a garden-inspired space where perception, memory, and growth meet. Obelisk Home also presents the 20th Annual Birdhouse Auction benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, MO, marking the final Birdhouse Auction hosted there. Red, White & Bridge Bash

Part of the National Route 66 Centennial Kickoff Celebration, the Red, White & Bridge Bash is anticipated to draw thousands to Historic C-Street for a two-day showcase of music, community spirit, and the upcoming reopening of the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge. The street will turn into a lively festival setting with live jazz and other performances, classic car displays that nod to the golden era of Route 66, local food, history exhibits, community booths, and family-friendly entertainment. The festivities also salute America’s 250th birthday while shining a light on the unique character of the Historic C-Street Business District. A light, sound, and drone show is planned as part of the celebration. Parking will be available in designated lots, and free shuttle service will be provided by City Utilities Transit, with a detailed parking and shuttle map to be released ahead of time. The event is funded and presented by the Missouri Route 66 Centennial Commission as part of a multi-day commemoration of 100 years of America’s iconic highway, which began in Springfield in 1926.

Now preparing to share his tenth record, Live at the Rock House, he showcases mostly new material alongside a few longtime favorites. The album was recorded in front of a focused audience and reflects what drives him most, standing before listeners, telling stories, and singing songs without studio polish. Based in Lawrence, Kansas, his music has been featured on NBC’s The Blacklist, is heard on Kansas Public Radio’s Trail Mix, and serves as the theme for the Lawrence Humane Society. Comparisons often point to Gram Parsons and John Prine, and his easygoing stage presence brings to mind Todd Snider and Paul Thorn. The performance highlights folk tunes that spark laughter, tender moments, and singalongs. General admission is $20.

Horse Riding

At Sac River Stables, girls can spend a day in the saddle while progressing toward Girl Scout badge goals. Riders build foundational horseback skills through guided, mounted instruction and hands-on horsemanship activities tailored to their age. The program is led by a CHA-certified instructor at a CHA-accredited facility. Horses are well trained and beginner friendly, and all experience levels are welcome. The experience is approved by Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland and Boy Scouts. This outing supports Girl Scout badges with an emphasis on outdoor and adventure categories, and it works well for both troops and individual participants. It blends learning, confidence building, and plenty of fun. All participants must complete a release form, which can be filled out ahead of time and sent with Girl Scouts if carpooling. Wear boots or sturdy shoes with a raised heel, jeans or long pants, and dress for the weather since programs continue regardless of conditions. There is a 200 lb participant weight limit, and adult spots are limited. Parents and troop leaders are required to remain for the duration to meet ratio requirements, and adults should be registered to satisfy those ratios. Adults who wish to ride must register. No refunds are available after registration deadlines.

Movie Matinee: Back To The Future

Historic Gillioz Theatre hosts a movie matinee screening of Back to the Future, the 1985 sci fi favorite about teen Marty McFly and his inventor friend Doc Brown. When a time travel experiment misfires, Marty is sent to the 1950s in a DeLorean, where he meets his parents as teenagers and must help them fall in love so he does not vanish. He also has to find a way back to his own era and protect Doc’s life. Doors open before the feature, with trivia offered ahead of the screening. Drip & Flow Dish-Drain Acrylic Pour Class!

The 43rd NSRA Mid-America Street Rod Nationals arrives at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds for a celebration of street rods and vintage vehicles. Vehicle entries must be 30 years old or older. Highlights include commercial exhibitors, a swap meet, Women’s World, NSRA Autocross, a pin-up contest, valve cover racing, the Saturday Streets of Rods showcase, kids games and a coloring contest, Nick Donovan’s Rockin’ Road Show each day, an all-denomination church service on Sunday, and the Sunday Circle of Winners awards program. The Historic Gillioz Theatre presents Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters on the 2026 Morro Rock Tour, celebrating the arrival of their album “In The Bay,” the 21st release from J.D. Andrew and Bud Thornton. The record reflects their deep love of 1960s rock and classic pop, with arrangements that nod to Brian Wilson’s approach to instrumentation and songs sparked by time spent in Morro Bay on California’s central coast. A support person is encouraged to attend. The session concludes with a guided tour of the Labor and Delivery and Women and Newborn units, and no separate tour registration is needed. Instruction includes videos on vaginal birth and breastfeeding. Participants should choose this course or Prepared Childbirth, not both, because space is limited and classes cannot accommodate enrollment in both. It is intended for those delivering at CoxHealth. Plan to take it during the last trimester, and reach out around 20 to 25 weeks to secure availability. Registration closes three days before the class or when it fills. Drawing Basics: Marbles

Explore the basics of drawing by focusing on colorful marbles with colored pencils in this three-week class. All materials are included, and the class is suitable for ages 8 and older. Sessions are led by Catherine Russell and Savanna Miller at Art Zone. The cost is $30.

Blooming Bams Mahjong Open Play

Enjoy open mahjong play in the Annie Busch Community Room, set with card and rectangular tables. Tiles will be available, and participants are encouraged to bring their own set. All skill levels are welcome as long as you already know how to play or have completed Mahjong 101. If you are new to the game, start with the beginner class and check the other event listings for dates. The library permits outside food and drinks, which is convenient if you plan to bring a meal.

Teen Clay Art Camp: July 13-17

Teen Clay Art Camps welcome students ages 12 and up for a creative deep dive into ceramics. Participants can follow the featured theme or develop projects of their own. Full day enrollment includes two sessions on the pottery wheel and a hand built clay project. Families can choose a full day for $50 or a half day for $30, with optional early drop off and late pick up available for an additional $5 each. Multi day savings are available for one student attending multiple full days, priced at $140 for three days, $180 for four days, and $220 for five days. Please send a sack lunch, and inform Art Zone of any known allergies.

Night Light 5k

At CNH Reman North America, the Night Light 5k transforms an evening run into a family-friendly experience filled with color and music. The start line bursts with cold sparks, confetti, and fog for an energetic sendoff. Along the route, runners will find pump-up stations, on-course music, kraken tentacles, a sprint through a shark jaw lined with teeth, and arches that glow in the dark to keep the momentum high. Registered participants receive a custom apparel item, and everyone can enjoy complimentary cotton candy and snow cones. Cross the finish to collect a light-up medal, with an LED running baton also included among the event goodies. Participants are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark gear, glow sticks, or similar apparel to light up the night.
