The Groove Lab

The Groove Lab is an upbeat music class tailored for elementary-aged kids who are ready for a bigger challenge. Instead of simply singing, participants build a full musical experience through movement, instruments, and teamwork. Children drum with basketballs to develop rhythm, coordination, and group awareness. They learn ukulele basics with real chords, accurate finger placement, steady strumming, and songs they can play from start to finish. Boomwhackers turn the room into a fast-paced, collaborative jam that makes music social and exciting. Along the way, students grow their theory skills with advanced beat reading and notation so they can read rhythms with confidence. This program is designed for school-age learners who want an energetic, hands-on approach to music. Enrollment is open all year, and monthly tuition is $60. A free trial class is available so families can see the class in action before committing. Retracing the Lewis and Clark Expedition

At the Bass Lake Park conference room, National Geographic Explorer Dr. Roland Kays shares a first-hand look at a modern wildlife resurvey that retraces the route of Lewis and Clark. Fresh from leading a team of biologists across the United States, he collaborated with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute and local experts to document animals along the same path traveled more than two centuries ago. The program also features Matt Jones, Head of Digital Media at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Expect vivid footage gathered through continent-spanning camera traps and on-the-water observations by canoe and kayak, along with treks through wetlands, forests, and prairies. The presentation includes a preview of videography planned for a forthcoming documentary for national media. Dr. Kays directs the Biodiversity Research Lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and serves as a research scientist at NC State University. He also shares wildlife science through the Wild Animals YouTube channel and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ Wild Animals Podcast. Michael Blakey

Michael Blakey brings his high-spirited, Midwestern presence to the Aviator Brewing Ready Room with a performance built on openness and drive. After leaving Missouri in 2012 and taking his search for self on the road, from a minivan to a Subaru, he channels that journey into songs that reveal how he sees himself and the world. The set moves from tender, fingerpicked passages that pull at the heart to sudden surges of motion, including leaping from a drum riser or diving into a circle pit. Each song peels back another layer, and his onstage energy is crafted to send the crowd out smiling.
