Wicked Joyful Grand Opening

The grand opening celebrates Wicked Joyful’s evolution from a beloved online brand to a brick and mortar destination at Queen City Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. Founded in 2019, the label is known for custom action figures, original apparel, and a spirited embrace of local lore. Its playful New England designs have earned a devoted following, and its one of a kind figures are collected by fans such as Jack White, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Sierra Ferrell, Tyler Childers, and SNL performers Will Forte, Bobby Moynihan, and Chloe Fineman. Collaborations in recent years include Dashboard Confessional and Violet Grohl. The shop is the creation of Manchester native Nick Lavallee, who led the 2022 effort to proclaim the city the Chicken Tender Capital of the World, a story covered by The New York Times, America’s Test Kitchen, and New Hampshire Magazine, and featured on Season 8 of Jersey Shore Family Vacation. Part retail shop and part nostalgia museum, the space offers original apparel, artwork, vintage toys, pop culture ephemera, physical media, and classic arcade games set to free play. The apparel collection celebrates New England legends, cryptids, landmarks, and quirky traditions. Shirts ordered at the counter are served in a chicken tender basket. Photo opportunities include an authentic booth rescued from the original 1940s Puritan Tea Room and a recreated 1980s living room, and visitors can try to climb the leaderboard on the arcade machines. The result is a curated, wicked joyful experience with a playful nod to Tender Town. Recognition includes a 2023 Best of New Hampshire Magazine Editor’s Pick for “Tee’s Action Figures and Local Pride” and a 2025 Best of Boston Magazine Editor’s Pick for “Action Figure Generator.” Free on site parking is available but limited. Monster Hunt

Set out on a downtown scavenger hunt that turns finding art into making art. Handmade clay monsters are hidden around the city, but seekers will be looking for reusable Monster Medallions. Trade a found medallion at Studio 550 for a one-of-a-kind monster to keep. Everyone is asked to take only one so the fun can be shared widely. Families with very young children can start with a mini hunt reserved for ages 5 and under in the green space in front of the Center of NH. There are 25 monsters set aside for this youth round, and every child receives a free monster sticker whether or not a clay creature is found. The public, all-ages search begins with a quick kickoff gathering at City Hall Plaza where participants receive rules, tips, and a few prizes, then set out to explore. Hiding spots are focused in the heart of downtown along Elm Street, all in public places and often near public art or everyday locations that reward a closer look. Back at Studio 550, the celebration continues with low-cost or free hands-on activities open to everyone. Options include sculpting a clay monster, trying the pottery wheel, creating a plant habitat for a new monster friend, tie-dyeing a Studio 550 shirt or tote, bubble painting led by 2-D instructor Mattea Schevey, sidewalk chalk, monster-themed paper crafts, and rock painting. Monster finders are also entered into a raffle for a Studio 550 gift card. Sweet extras add to the fun. A handful of downtown businesses will offer specials or activities for those who find a monster, and the Manchester City Library BookMobile will be at City Hall Plaza for anyone to visit. Queen City Cupcakes will have monster cupcakes for finders. No purchase is necessary, and participants are encouraged to linger downtown to eat, explore, and enjoy what the city has to offer.
