Workshops & Classes

Intro to Encaustic with Kate Santucci

Explore the dynamic, tactile world of encaustic painting in a hands-on workshop led by Kate Huser Santucci. Participants will learn how pigment is fused with heated wax to build rich, layered surfaces, and will practice foundational techniques such as layering, mark making, and surface manipulation. Whether you are new to the medium or looking to expand your practice, the session offers a supportive setting to experiment and learn. The workshop takes place in the Project Pit at Front Street. Enter through Door B/C on the basement level. Cost is $80 for members and $100 for non-members. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. About the instructor: Santucci is a Dayton-based artist working in encaustic and mixed media. She holds a BFA in Visual Art with a concentration in sculpture from Wright State University, pursued advanced study through a residency with Patricia Seggebruch, and received a 2020 Artist Opportunity Grant from the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District and Culture Works to study with Alicia Tormey. She has been awarded a 2025 residency at Chateau D’Orquevaux in France. Her work has been exhibited at the Springfield Museum of Art, The Edward A. Dixon Gallery, the Dayton Society of Artists, Studios on High in Columbus, and in the Canadian Encaustic Conference exhibition Waxing Poetic, where she was a featured speaker. Public projects include a mural in downtown Dayton and a commissioned series for the Southeast Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. Her work is held in private collections across the United States. Working with beeswax, damar resin, and pigment, she creates luminous, layered surfaces that explore themes from the natural world and human perception.
