Funny Bone Comedy ClubJuneteenth: Commemoration, Celebration, and Concert
The 6th Annual Juneteenth Commemoration, Celebration, and Concert returns to Levitt Pavilion Dayton with the theme Legacy of Freedom III. Presented in partnership with Home of Urban Creative Arts, this free community gathering highlights education, culture, remembrance, and joy through performances, interactive experiences, and live music in downtown Dayton. The program opens with Boots on the Ground, a short educational tribute to local and national individuals who have fought and continue to fight for freedom, followed by community Southern soul line dancing. Throughout the evening, attendees can experience African drumming and dance, poetry, heritage presentations, audience participation moments, a live choir, food sculptures and culinary demonstrations, face painting, sound bowls, massage chairs, food trucks, and giveaways. Families can visit the Mobile Bookstore, pick up free youth books while supplies last, connect with local African American authors, and take part in literacy-focused activities that celebrate reading, storytelling, and cultural preservation. The night concludes with a concert by Grammy-nominated R&B group Brownstone with a live band. Recognized for rich harmonies and songs including If You Love Me, Grapevyne, and 5 Miles to Empty, Brownstone first rose to prominence as the initial signing to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music and continues to share its soulful sound with audiences across the country. This celebration is supported by community partners including Montgomery County, the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, Dayton Metro Library, the Michael and Debbie Carter Center for American History: Our American Journey, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Faith Daniels and 92.1 WROU, Black Palette Art Gallery, Tae Winston Events, Black Worldschoolers Mobile School Bus, Signature Educational Solutions, Dayton Daily News, WYSO, and others.
