Fountain Paddles at Riverscape
Glide beneath the fountains at RiverScape MetroPark with walk-up kayak rentals from Taiters Kayak. The setup is at the water’s edge between the bike trail and the river, and rentals are offered on a first come, first served basis. Small groups can request a reserved spot. Choose from 30 minutes for $15, one hour for $25, or four hours for $60. On arrival, scan a QR code to select your option, complete payment, and sign a waiver. Cash and tap-to-pay are also accepted. Participants must be at least 10 years old, and minors need an accompanying adult and a signed waiver. The weight limit is 300 pounds. Restrooms are available in the park near the Canteen. Staff can assist with launching and landing, and first-time paddlers receive basic instruction before heading out. The fleet includes 18 sit-in single kayaks and 2 sit-on-top doubles. Downtown parking is available.
RiverScape MetroParkRecovery Dharma: Inquiry Meeting
Recovery Dharma offers a Buddhist inspired, peer-led space grounded in the belief that each person has the capacity to recover and find freedom from the suffering of addiction. This inquiry-focused meeting uses questions designed to unite the wisdom of recovery with the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and the Five Precepts. Participants spend time reflecting individually through journaling and meditation, then come together for group discussion. The meeting welcomes anyone navigating addictive patterns of many kinds, including alcohol or drugs, food, scrolling, codependency, overspending, and more. The emphasis is on empowerment, mutual support, and discovering one’s own inner wisdom. All are welcome. This gathering is donation based, and pre-registration is not required. Other local Recovery Dharma meetings are also held at the Quaker House. Parking is available in Guest Parking on Davis Avenue unless accessible parking is needed. Please do not park in the main courtyard, which is reserved for those with accessibility needs and tenants of the Davis-Linden Building. Vehicles parked in the courtyard without explicit permission may be towed.
Woodland Historic Tour
This historic tour explores Woodland, one of the United States’ oldest rural cemeteries, established in 1841. Highlights include the resting places of the Wright Brothers, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Erma Bombeck, James Ritty, the Stanley and Mead families, George Newcom, and other renowned and notorious Daytonians. Meet at Eichelberger Plaza at the main gates of the cemetery. Parking is available inside the gates as well as outside. Wear comfortable walking shoes and consider bringing a water bottle. Tours take place in all weather except during thunder or lightning. A reservation is required, and a suggested $5 contribution benefits the Woodland Arboretum Foundation and its restoration, preservation, horticultural, and educational efforts that help keep Woodland a cultural resource for Dayton and Ohio.
