2026 Woollybear Festival

Downtown Vermilion welcomes the 54th edition of Ohio’s one day celebration of the woollybear, a community tradition that honors the legacy of Dick Goddard, the FOX 8 meteorologist, animal advocate, and founder who started it. The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce partners with FOX 8 to present a full day that fills the streets with family fun, entertainment, and plenty of fuzzy caterpillars. Festivities feature the Wonderful Wacky Woollybear Parade, the Woollybear 500 caterpillar race, an animal look alike costume contest, a kids costume contest with the crowning of a Woollybear king and queen, live entertainment, appearances by FOX 8 personalities and special guests, and the station’s official winter forecast. Food vendors, local merchants, and craft vendors add to the festive atmosphere in the heart of town. Recognized as one of Ohio’s biggest and best known fall festivals, it draws visitors from across the region to Downtown Vermilion along Lake Erie and celebrates community pride, tradition, and a shared love of animals.
