3rd Line Hockey Parent-Child Draught Tournament

A coed hockey tournament at Galactic Ice in Altoona, PA brings together parents, children, and players of all backgrounds for a draught-style competition. Games follow basic USA Hockey rules, and slapshots are allowed. Participants do not need to be a parent or have a child to play, and children who do participate must be at least 10 years old. Families should note that children are not guaranteed to be placed on the same team as their parent. A separate dressing area is available for players under 18 if preferred. Teams are limited to 10 skaters plus a goalie. The cost is $265, and jerseys and socks to keep are included, with no shells provided. The draught party takes place in an adult tournament environment, and kids will be sticking to water.

S’Wingfest - August 20

PNG Field welcomes the area’s wing festival, presented by Co“BRH”s Lounge & Sports Bar. There is no admission charge and all ages are welcome. Enjoy live sets from local and regional bands, featuring a performance by Autumn Rising. Wings are served at the main Curve concession locations on the lower concourse, with Shumans Concessions offering a range of additional food options. The Curve will also have alcohol and Dippin’ Dots available. Wing offerings come from CO”BRH”s, Liz’s Kitchen, Tims American cafe, Newburg Fire Hall, Chest Springs Tavern, Belly Busters, and Taps on 2nd.

The Warped Band

The Warped Band, the official tribute to Warped Tour, returns to McGarveys Bar in Altoona, PA. The show celebrates the tour’s spirit with songs that span decades and genres, featuring artists like Blink 182, Green Day, Sublime, NOFX, Pierce The Veil, Falling in Reverse, All Time Low, Avril Lavigne, Limp Bizkit, and Eminem. The production includes merchandise along with video and lighting, and it is endorsed by Warped Tour and Kevin Lyman. Attendees can vote on the set list from a selection of more than 100 songs to highlight their favorites.

Celebrate the launch of One Piece OP-17 with a constructed format event featuring a $10 entry. Promotional items from Bandai and other prizes will be available while supplies last. Participants at these release events receive first access to newly stocked product. Registration is handled through TCG+. Free parking is available in private lots behind the venue, and street parking can be found nearby. Accessible parking is offered behind the building or directly in front. Youth Acting Workshop

A one day intensive for ages 13 to 17, led by teaching artist Emily Evey, focuses on understanding a role by comparing a chosen character with personal experience. Through writing activities, movement improvisation, breath and voice work, mindfulness practices, and theatre games, students explore the thoughts and physicality of a character they select. Character choices are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Between exercises, participants share insights and reflect with peers and the instructor. By the end, each student leaves with a toolkit of techniques to apply to any role, practice with peer-led analysis and critique, and strengthened movement, breath, and analysis skills. The workshop runs about five to six hours. The cost is $30 per student, and the price includes a journal, worksheets, and take home resources.

Led by Dr. Jared Frederick, the route weaves through Downtown Altoona, highlighting lesser known links between the community and the nation’s defining conflict. The tour begins and ends at Levity Brewing Co. Altoona, where food and drinks are available before or after. Tickets are $10 per guest, and all ages are welcome.

Penn State Altoona Night at the Curve

Penn State Altoona Night at the Curve features the Altoona Curve taking on the Erie SeaWolves. Free tickets for students will be available, and additional details will be shared later. AAHS Alumni Band Day 2026

Former AAHS band members, majorettes, color guard and silk corps are welcomed back for an Alumni Band celebration at Mansion Park Stadium, coinciding with the Mt. Lions matchup against Central Dauphin. It is also Altoona Football League Night, honoring emerging gridiron talent and their coaches. The new AAHS Band Director, Brandon Kunder, will lead his first official Alumni Band Day. Registration includes a maroon commemorative Alumni Band T-shirt and a buffet dinner, and instruments can be provided upon request. The fee is $30 for AAHS Alumni Association members and $35 for non-members.

History Speaks Presentation: "A History of the PRR and Its Altoona Works Operations"

The Blair County Historical Society presents a History Speaks presentation with Bob Fleegle titled A History of the PRR and Its Altoona Works Operations. The program opens with highlights from Fleegle’s research, then continues with a feature screening of his PRR history documentary that he filmed for WJAC-TV News. Blending archival footage with contemporary interviews, the film explores the PRR’s story within the community and explains the significance of the Altoona Works operations. This will be the first public screening of the complete documentary. Admission is free and open to the public, and donations to the Blair County Historical Society are welcome.

2026 Newburg FD Annual Pew-Pew Raffle

An annual raffle hosted by the Newburg Volunteer Fire Department features 30 prizes, with tickets priced at $10 per person. Small games will be available and beer will be available. Tickets can be secured ahead of time by sending a message on Facebook, visiting the social hall, or contacting fire personnel, and they will also be sold at the front door on the day of the event. Attendance is not required to claim a prize. The event supports local volunteer fire and emergency personnel.
