Regulation Rescue Live! (Philly) Blocked Care Workshop with Melissa Corkum

This interactive workshop at Well Rooted is led by Melissa Corkum and focuses on understanding and healing blocked care. When prolonged stress overwhelms a parent, the nervous system can switch into a protective mode that blunts the higher level thinking needed for nurturing, creating distance in the relationship with a child and leaving caregivers burdened with shame and a sense of failure. The session is designed for caregivers who love their child yet feel disconnected, who once felt capable but now feel ineffective, who have tried many approaches without meaningful progress, and who feel isolated or burned out. Participants will learn to spot the roots and warning signs of blocked care, use brain based strategies to shift out of it, and practice ways to soothe and support their nervous system so they can be a steadier foundation for their family. Registration is required.

Dry Leaf

A sports photographer named Lisa disappears into the Georgian countryside, leaving faint signs behind in the fields and villages she once captured. Her father, Irakli (David Koberidze), ignores her wish to be left alone and follows those traces through ochre landscapes and community soccer grounds. With an unseen voice riding beside him, he moves through a rambling rural journey, meeting clusters of teenagers, roaming dogs, and keepers of local stories. The path drifts between dreamlike observation and a sly, investigative thread, inviting renewed attention to the ordinary details that shape both life and cinema. Created using a W595 Sony Ericsson phone camera and embracing a deliberately rough texture, Dry Leaf explores a stripped-down approach to filmmaking and questions the pull of constant technological upgrade. Director Alexandre Koberidze continues a line of inquiry begun after What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? and echoes the low-resolution spirit of Let the Summer Never Come Again, rekindling simple tools of cinematic expression. Georgia/Germany, 2025, 1185 minutes. In Georgian with English subtitles.

His credits include performances with John Swana, Miles Moon, Atomic Fizz, Taylor Kelly and Khalil Amaru. He served as Guitar 1 on the North American tour of Come From Away and teaches as an adjunct at Rider University. Before America - The Making of Philadelphia

Explore the origins of Philadelphia on a story-driven walking tour through historic Old City that unpacks how ambition, ego, and grit intersected with faith, power, and wealth to shape a metropolis in its earliest era. The route traces the city’s path from European beginnings to rapid growth on the world stage, highlighting unscripted moments and larger-than-life personalities that helped define Philadelphia’s look, feel, and attitude. Along the way, stroll cobblestone streets and tucked-away alleys while visiting landmarks such as Christ Church, Elfreth’s Alley, Franklin Square, Arch Street Meeting House, Franklin Court, Carpenters’ Hall, City Tavern, Washington Square, Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell. The tour begins at the Independence Visitors Center, where the guide is easy to spot with a blue backpack and a small flagpole. Plan for roughly two hours on foot and about three miles of walking. It is designed for ages 10 and up, with families welcome, though the narrative focus and length may be challenging for some younger children. A brief five to ten minute break is included, and restrooms are available at the Visitors Center and nearby businesses. Comfortable walking shoes, water, snacks, a small bag, weather-appropriate clothing, and a fully charged phone or camera are recommended. Parking can be arranged in nearby garages using the SpotHero app, and public transit options via SEPTA and PATCO provide convenient access, including service at Jefferson Station. No-shows and late arrivals forfeit tickets, so arriving a little early is advised. Order confirmations and reminders are sent after purchase. Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before the listed start time for a refund, with processing fees possibly nonrefundable and refunds typically issued within a few business days. The tour runs in light rain and typical temperatures, with cancellations only for conditions considered unsafe, in which case refunds are provided minus processing fees.

Boy Jr and more

A vibrant night of queer live music at Silk City Diner Bar & Lounge features three distinct acts that celebrate identity, creativity, and bold sound. BOY JR., the songwriting and production project led by Ariel Allen-Lubman (they them he him), blends electronic, pop, indie, and punk sensibilities into catchy, boundary-stretching tracks, known for hook-filled originals and widely shared mashups. Beyond the music, Allen-Lubman uses their platform to lift up young queer people, advocating for self-expression, identity, and joy amid rising cultural and political headwinds. The FMs bring a lineup of queer, trans, and nonbinary musicians from New York City and Upstate New York, delivering politically pointed pop and their own strain of synth-charged punk with a babygirl flair. Their shows lean into a candy-colored, punk-rock spectacle with glowing neon and oversized balloons, and the band has been covered by Billboard, the New York Daily News, GLAAD, and Showtime. Rounding out the bill, The Side Chicks, a Philadelphia neo-soul group with a queer lead, weave improvisation into every performance. Their originals aim straight for the heart, and when the funk hits the room is ready to move.

Yumi Zouma w/ Ducks Ltd. at the First Unitarian Church

Yumi Zouma performs with Ducks Ltd. at the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia. The New Zealand‑rooted quartet of Christie Simpson, Josh Burgess, Charlie Ryder, and Olivia Campion has grown into a far‑flung indie pop collaboration, with members living in different cities and creating together across continents. Their fifth studio album, No Love Lost To Kindness, took shape in Mexico City and reflects a broader, bolder sound that stretches from shimmering synth textures to louder guitar‑driven moments, produced by Burgess and Ryder. It follows releases like Present Tense and EP IV and draws on a decade of writing and recording around the world. Sharing the stage, Toronto’s Ducks Ltd. features Evan Lewis and Tom McGreevy, a duo known for bright jangle and propulsive power pop. Their album Harm’s Way, recorded in Chicago with producer Dave Vettraino and a team of collaborators, channels anxious reflections on struggle, support, and the pressures of modern life into songs honed by steady time on the road. It builds on the foundation of their debut Modern Fiction, the earlier Get Bleak EP, and a collaborative covers release that nodded to favorites by The Cure, The Feelies, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. This concert pairs two bands shaped by distance, momentum, and a shared drive to keep expanding their sound.

Rent

Jonathan Larson’s Rent arrives as a landmark musical, honored with both a Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Set on New York’s Lower East Side, it follows a year in the lives of young artists facing economic displacement and the AIDS crisis, tracing how they chase their art and love, work through conflict, and find moments of joy and heartbreak along the way. Book, music, and lyrics are by Jonathan Larson. The production is directed by Andrew McDermott, with music direction and conducting by Sean Malloy and choreography by Kimmy Faughey. The cast features Chris Bartholomew as Roger, Thomas Lane as Mark, Antoine Martinez-Jones as Collins, Ben Seidman as Benny, Taylor Lam as Joanne, Gregory Kooker as Angel, Gianna Stacks as Mimi, and Alicia Fell as Maureen. Ensemble members include Dana Blechman, Jordan Busza, Laura Cilia, Jensen Davis, Rebecca Gomezrueda, Annie Nixson, Kerlin Pyun, and Courtney Thoroughgood. The performance runs about two and a half hours with a fifteen minute intermission. All ages are admitted, but the show includes mature content that may be upsetting or triggering for some viewers, including profanity, depictions of violence, substance use, sexual situations, and references to suicide, homelessness, homophobia, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it existed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Wheelchair accessible seating can be requested during ticket purchase, and the box office will coordinate entry through the accessible entrance since the main entrance is not handicap accessible. Parking is available in the lot behind the Circus Campus, with additional street parking on nearby neighborhood streets if the lot is full. Black Eyes w/ Morgan Garrett & Ibah Baskette And The Wandering Talisman Ensemble at The Rotunda

The Rotunda hosts an evening with Black Eyes, Morgan Garrett, and Ibah Baskette & The Wandering Talisman Ensemble. Black Eyes reemerged with Hostile Design after their reunion shows, delivering six new pieces that drive further into shadowy dub textures and untamed punk energy rooted in their early work. Written over an extended period, the lyrics move through political, sexual, and interpersonal terrain with a poetic edge, asking how violence shapes lives and relationships. The album was recorded at Tonal Park in three days with Ian MacKaye producing and Don Godwin engineering. Their setup revisits the two-drum, bass, guitar, and sax foundation while folding in live multichannel dubbing, electronic drum triggers and samples, and occasional bass clarinet. The material, refined across previous dates, balances relentless density with spacious, sometimes haunting passages, drawing on the members’ wide-ranging pursuits in drone rock, avant techno, ambient sound, collage, visual art, and video. Morgan Garrett presents Purity, a record made in the aftermath of discovering a neighbor’s death. It traces the stress and aftermath of that experience, honoring and documenting its impact on daily life and state of mind. Created in close weekly collaboration with Alex Nagle, the music is described as both maximal and exacting, with songs that leave room to breathe. The production and sound resist easy comparison. Ibah Baskette & The Wandering Talisman Ensemble offer an immersion in experimental, free-form creation, an unscripted and borderless exploration of sound led by multi-instrumentalist Ibah Baskette on saxophone and percussion. The ensemble features Karen Smith on percussion, Ryoko Ohara on saxophone, Eric E+ Green on guitar, and Ryan Ficano on upright bass, focusing on real-time invention and the electricity of music made in the moment.

Philly Moon Jams

Philly Moon Jams brings Max Muerte & Friends together with the eXpirence Potluck at Penn Treaty Park for a moonlit blend of music, fire dance, and laid-back picnic vibes. Settle in with snacks, a picnic blanket, and gentle lighting for your spot, such as very dim LED string lights or tea lights, since the park is quite dark. Expect a relaxed evening where you can mingle, move to a soundtrack centered on house and bass, or simply enjoy the park after dark as a communal fire circle takes shape. LED flow props are encouraged, including flow stars, and simple, low key glamping setups suit the scene. Fire spinning and fire safety are part of the night, with white gas required and safety emphasized. Photographers are welcome, and are asked to share images and avoid blocking the circle. If you come across a lost item, return it to the DJs, musicians, or the hosts, Alicia or Joel. Tips and donations are appreciated to help cover gear transportation and to support the artists and the fire safety team. This gathering has been lighting up parks since 2015, and the crowd tends to grow organically as the night goes on. Because it takes place in a public park, plans may change and the group may be asked to wrap up, so flexibility and respect are important. Plan for street parking or the casino lot, as the park lot closes at sunset.

2026 House Tour Season Begins

House tour season opens at Cliveden with a new exhibition inside the house, "Procuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation." Set against the backdrop of conflicts that swept North America from the 1750s through the following decades, the exhibition focuses on the people who lived and worked at Cliveden as a new nation was taking shape. A household of more than twenty individuals navigated turmoil, redefined their identities, and sought to keep or gain their freedom while ideas about independence were widespread. Guided visits begin at the Barn, where a Cliveden Interpreter leads guests through the site and the exhibition. Tours may be arranged in advance through the organization’s website or requested in person on tour days. Support for "Procuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation" is provided by The Mill Spring Foundation, The Haley Foundation, the Richard Dietrich III Foundation, The Chester County History Center, William Faris, Ian Hughes, and John P. Poison Ruïn w/ The Marked Men, The Serfs, & Zorn at the First Unitarian Church

A multi-band punk showcase at the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia brings together Poison Ruïn with The Marked Men, The Serfs, and Zorn. Poison Ruïn, a Philadelphia punk band, spotlights Hymns From the Hills, a self-recorded album that expands their established blend of shadowy, mythic imagery and hard-charging intensity. The new songs weave in sharpened textures, from gritty tape-born atmospheres and blast-beat surges to analog synth lines and spacious, ambient passages, while keeping their core sound intact. Principal songwriter Mac Kennedy tracked the record in a dedicated workspace to pursue a more deliberate approach, with mixing by Jonah Falco and mastering by Arthur Rizk adding clarity without losing the band’s raw edge. The Marked Men, from Denton, Texas, feature Jeff Burke and Mark Ryan on guitars and vocals, Joe Ayoub on bass, and Mike Throneberry on drums. Their catalog includes four albums released on Rip Off Records, Dirtnap Records, and Swami Records, with Ghosts as the most recent full-length. The Serfs, hailing from southwestern Ohio, channel a stark, dance-driven pulse where insistent synth melodies lock with metallic percussion and austere vocals for a hypnotic, industrial-leaning sound. Philadelphia’s Zorn adds a theatrical streak to the bill, pairing fiery stagecraft with metal-punk that draws on death rock melody, thrash-rooted riffing, and the punishing drive of Discharge-style hardcore. Their debut album features hook-laced intensity, including tracks like Already Dead and Delco Devil Mosh, and imagery as bold as a devil poised over flaming skulls.

White Reaper x Drug Church

Union Transfer hosts a powerhouse night with White Reaper and Drug Church, joined by Public Opinion. White Reaper, featuring Tony Esposito, Ryan Hater, Hunter Thompson, Nick Wilkerson, and Sam Wilkerson, built their reputation on early releases White Reaper Does It Again and The World’s Best American Band, then broke through with the Elektra Records album You Deserve Love. Its single Might Be Right reached number one at Alternative Radio and drew tens of millions of streams, followed by a late night TV debut on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and a stint as special guests on Pearl Jam’s arena tour. The band went to Nashville to write and largely self-produce their fourth album, Asking for a Ride, with engineer Jeremy Ferguson, channeling the charge of their live show with muscular riffs, flashes of thrash, big choruses, and quieter acoustic moments. Drug Church brings a gripping mix of volume and melody from Albany, New York. Patrick Kindlon, Nick Cogan, Cory Galusha, Pat Wynne, and Chris Villeneuve sharpen their sound on the 28 minute album PRUDE, produced and engineered by Jon Markson, blending hardcore bite with 90s alternative hooks. Songs like Mad Care, Hey Listen, Slide 2 Me, Business Ethics, Chow, The Bitters, Yankee Trails, and Peer Review pair massive guitars and a thunderous rhythm section with lyrics that explore personal missteps, individualism, and hard luck stories told with blunt honesty. This event is all ages. There is a strict ticket limit, and orders that exceed the limit may be canceled without notice. For ADA assistance email assistance@utphilly.com. Liberty, Faith, and Finance: An Old City Walk for Friends of Gloria Dei

Walk through Old City Philadelphia to see how revolution, faith, finance, and learning came together in the pivotal years around 1776. The route begins in the State House Yard, the heart of the independence movement, and follows the city's shift from colonial capital to the political center of a new nation. Along the way, explore institutions that shaped that world, including Philosophical and Library Halls, the early campus of the University of Pennsylvania, Carpenters' Hall, and the first banks that supported both war and peace. The walk also highlights the city's varied religious life with stops such as St. Mary's and its 1781 Te Deum for Yorktown, the Arch Street Meeting House, and the site of Zion Lutheran Church, where Philadelphians gathered for George Washington's memorial service in 1799. The tour concludes at Christ Church, parish home to many of Philadelphia's founders and the site of the famed bells hidden during the British occupation, a story closely tied to Gloria Dei.

Led by Philadelphia bassist, producer, and engineer Brendan McGeehan, Peace Fortress channels a studio-first creative spirit into songs that weave soul, surf, rock, funk, and jazz. The second record, Magic Number, will be presented live only once with guests including Ursula Rucker, Yesseh Furaha-Ali, Minas, and Rob Hyman, alongside a core band featuring Adrian Harpham on drums, Freddie Berman on percussion, Logan Roth on keyboards, Will Brown on guitar, and strings performed by the SMC Quintet. Paolo Angeli

Paolo Angeli brings a singular performance to The Rotunda, centered on the 18-string instrument he designed with craftsman Francesco Concas, a hybrid that blends elements of guitar, baritone, cello and percussion with hammers, pedals and motorized propellers. Shaped by the Sardinian canto a chitarra tradition championed by Giovanni Scanu and a career immersed in the avant garde, his music threads together post-rock, experimental opera, flamenco, jazz, Baroque colors, free jazz, folk noise and minimal pop. Onstage he bows, strikes, hammers, plucks and strums, setting sympathetic strings into resonance, retuning as he plays and shaping the sound with real-time electronics without using loopers, creating expansive textures from a single instrument. His collaborative history includes work with Pat Metheny, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, Zeena Parkins and Phillip Greenlief. The Rotunda is wheelchair accessible.

Bike Routes w/ Wormy & Innerlove. at PhilaMOCA

A record release night at PhilaMOCA spotlights Prairie and brings together Bike Routes, Wormy, and Innerlove. Bike Routes is the project of David Lawrence Osterhout, with acoustic-led songs that face worry, heartbreak, and moving forward through bright, memorable melodies. Hints of Bruce Springsteen, The Misfits, Lifetime, and The Gaslight Anthem surface while he keeps a distinct identity. Recent standouts include You Want It You Got It, World Apart, and Airplane. Before his first EP, Just Let It Go in 2020, he performed stripped-down takes on songs by Tigers Jaw, As Cities Burn, Death Cab for Cutie, and Springsteen. His debut album, Love is an Action, arrived in 2022, initially conceived acoustically until producer Zach Tuch, known for work with Touché Amoré, Silverstein, and Movements, broadened the sound. The Rush of Energy EP became his first release on Blue Grape Music, channeling urgency without losing intimacy, and his live presence has been sharpened on tour alongside Hawthorne Heights in spring 2024. Wormy is the songwriting outlet of drummer Noah Rauchwerk, whose touring with Samia, Willow Avalon, and Renny Conti keeps him shifting between long drives, crowded venues, and brief stints back in New York and New Jersey. That rhythm fuels Shark River, a second album that stitches vivid scenes of life, love, and regret into a continuous journey. Cocaine Bear, 27 Days, and I Hate You trace thoughts from mortality to relationships stretched by distance. Production and harmonies from Renny Conti and Samia Finnerty give the record a warm indie sheen with touches of pedal steel, and the vocals move from conversational confession to raw urgency. The title nods to looking for safety in familiar places and discovering that unease can still creep in, tempered by a sense of persistence and forward motion. Innerlove. rounds out the bill with a New York four-piece whose debut full-length feels like a fresh introduction. While earlier work leaned on gritty indie rock, the album fully embraces country flavors and folk alongside roots rock. Things Stop Working leans into that rootsy sway, Trophies and 26 brighten with folk textures, and 10 in the Morning builds patiently. Hectic threads twang beneath punchy pop rock. The result marks a clear move toward the sound the band has been shaping since the Fine by Me EP.
