South Hills School of Business and TechnologyEric Ian Farmer, Gary Abdullah & Stephen Mariner
An evening inspired by Juneteenth brings together music, remembrance, and reflection with State College native Eric Ian Farmer alongside bassist Gary Abdullah and pianist Stephen Mariner. Farmer leads with a resonant baritone, sharing original songs and heartfelt reinterpretations of classic material, all grounded in themes of memory, identity, and connection. His sound is rooted in gospel, soul, folk, and the church music of his childhood, with influences that include Marvin Gaye and the singers who shaped his early years. He is joined by Gary Abdullah, a veteran bassist known for work with Penn State’s United Soul Ensemble and Urban Fusion, and Stephen Mariner, a pianist and music director whose artistry is steeped in gospel traditions. Both musicians have deep ties to Penn State and the State College scene, drawing on experience across gospel, jazz, and blues to add depth to the program. Together they honor Juneteenth through song, storytelling, and shared history. Dinner and bar service are available throughout the evening.
