Young adventurers build bravery and kindness at this three-day camp designed for ages 3 to 5. It is an open, skills-focused maker time with access to real tools and creative spaces to try something new or dive deeper into a favorite interest. Activities can include refreshing clothing with patches, stitching, and design tweaks, recording and mixing music in a dedicated studio, tech projects such as coding, game design, and 3D printing, cooking or baking simple meals and snacks, painting, drawing, and other visual art, and hands-on tinkering with a variety of materials in the makerspace. There is also room to collaborate with peers or simply relax in a creative environment. Staff are present to guide and support while encouraging independence, confidence, and creativity. Teens set the pace, whether they focus on a single build or sample several areas. Families can expect a structured, supervised experience that emphasizes skill building rather than just social time, with food options available during the evening.

Over the weekend, talented folks from around the Upper Cumberland take creativity out of the garage and into the fairgrounds to share what they can do. Proceeds support UC Makerspace and Imagine Foundry, helping establish a permanent home for creative learning, entrepreneurship, hands-on education, food business incubation, and community powered problem solving in the Upper Cumberland.

Sawmill Poetry returns to Plenty Downtown Bookshop with a fall season kickoff featuring Khalil Elayan. He will share work from his new collection, Of Meadows and Echoes: The Yearning for Soft Spaces, which explores the wild and the sacred in nature with clear, resonant language. Poet Chen Chen has praised the book for its musical lines and striking imagery, drawing comparisons to Seamus Heaney and Li-Young Lee. Elayan serves as a Senior Lecturer in English at Kennesaw State University and holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University focused on Modern American and Comparative literatures. His interests extend to short stories, creative nonfiction, and time on his north Georgia farm tending blackberries and pepper plants. His poems have appeared in Snapdragon: A Journal of Art & Healing, The Black Fork Review, About Place Journal, and The Esthetic Apostle. Recent nonfiction is in Talking Writing, and his short story No Quedo Mas Nada was shortlisted for the Vincent Brothers Review Annual Short Story Contest and received a Pushcart Prize nomination. Much of his work addresses the natural environment, climate change, and trauma, giving voice to places and people too often unheard. The reading will be followed by an open mic welcoming poetry, spoken word, dramatic monologues, short prose, and songs.

Wing enthusiasts can take in the chicken wing competition, which offers a $1,000 grand prize and a trophy, and wing passes are available. Capture memories with a meet and greet featuring Cluckie the chicken mascot and pose for photos at the chicken-themed backdrop with giant wings.

Rescheduled due to Winter Storm Gianna, this intimate concert at Cookeville Performing Arts Center brings together EmiSunshine and Sam Hatmaker for an evening centered on songs and storytelling. EmiSunshine, a Tennessee native who has been on stage since childhood, blends country, folk, blues, and roots. She has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, released 11 albums by age 21, and earned a Josie Award as Female Country Artist of the Year. Her recent album, Miss Demeanor, pairs vivid narratives with a bold, genre-crossing sound. Sam Hatmaker grew up around the spotlight, began performing professionally at Dollywood at a young age, and secured her first publishing deal in her teens before recording a debut EP with Grammy winner Nathan Chapman. Known for expressive vocals and candid writing, she expands her self-coined y’all-ternative style on the album Trailer Park Traitor with indie textures and Southern grit. Expect individual sets along with a few moments together, marked by emotion-rich lyrics, finely crafted songwriting, and the shared spirit of roots music. Their creative partnership also includes recognition at the Josie Music Awards for the collaborative song Hercules.
