King of Cradles 5K/1M- Run for Gael

Tied Up

2026 Council Camporee

Organized by the Rio Grande Council at Camp Perry, this camporee welcomes participation from across Scouting, including In Council, Out of Council, and international Troops, Crews, Ships, and Posts. The gathering centers on skill building and provides meaningful opportunities for rank advancement through shared outdoor activities. Units that wish to be part of the campfire program are required to register their song or performance in advance, and all submissions must follow Scouting standards and rules.

5th Annual Sunshine Haven Golf Tournament Fundraiser

VIPF 2026 Poetry

A special poetry reading in Brownsville, part of the 19th Annual Rio Grande Valley International Poetry Festival, features Kenan Wilson Phillip alongside guest voices at Búho Bookstore. The gathering centers on storytelling, shared voices, and community in a beloved Valley literary space. Kenan Wilson Phillip is a Dominica-born poet who lives along the Texas Mexico border and is pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He serves as Volunteer Coordinator and board member for the Unfolded Poetry Project, a poetry-centered nonprofit in the RGV. His creative thesis explores intercultural and Afro-Caribbean and Latino poetics, decolonialism, and the poetics of relation. He is the author of The Ego Rhythm, published by FlowerSong Press.

Youth Panel 2026 - How Education Can Help Young People Achieve Their Dreams + Community Workshop

Hosted by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation and Teach For America RGV, this second edition of the Youth Panel returns as part of RGV Startup Week 2026 at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization. Last year, more than 140 community members listened to students preparing for college and the workforce, gaining clearer insight into what young people need to succeed. This year, a broad mix of current students, recent graduates, and emerging voices from across the Rio Grande Valley will share personal stories, reflect on their paths, and speak candidly about the challenges and opportunities they encounter in education, careers, and life. After the panel, attendees will collaborate in small groups to chart local resources, surface gaps, and outline practical next steps. It is a hands-on working session where participant perspectives and connections shape the outcomes. Insights from the program will be compiled into a community white paper to help institutions drive meaningful change. This event welcomes anyone invested in how education can help young people reach their goals, including K-12 and higher education leaders, workforce development professionals, business owners and civic leaders, nonprofits and community organizations, parents, mentors, and community members who care about where Brownsville is headed. At the Costumes of the Americas Museum, this exhibition spotlights Mexican dance as a lively expression of heritage and meaning. Through an engaging look at traditional, ceremonial, and folkloric forms from many regions, it shows how movement, music, and dress come together to honor milestones, seasonal festivities, courtship, faith, and community gatherings.
