Enjoy a women led, just for fun gathering at the JN Long Cultural Arts Center where crochet takes center stage, with space for knitting and other yarn crafts as well. This is a free community event created to bring people together. It is not a formal class, but experienced crocheters are happy to show beginners the basics, and plans are in the works to offer classes soon. Participants ages 14 and up are welcome. Light, packaged snacks are fine to bring, and everyone is responsible for tidying their own area. For convenient access, park behind the building on Shaw Street, or use the lot across from the center. Enter through Room 10; from the small lot on Shaw Street, it is the first door on the right. The session explains how to read your NOV, the deadlines that apply and why they matter, the difference between market value and fair and equal treatment, and how to request and review appraisal district evidence. It also highlights common valuation mistakes to watch for, the types of information that can strengthen your case, how the protest and hearing process works, and which exemptions or special valuations may be available. The workshop emphasizes your right to protest and offers practical steps to help protect your rights as a property owner so you can make informed decisions. Presented by Kimberly Jones, a Licensed Texas Property Tax Consultant, former Appraisal Review Board member, educator, advocate, and REALTOR, and hosted by the Property Tax Justice Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering homeowners through property tax education and advocacy. Malone Preserve Open Weekend - July

TLC’s Malone Preserve opens to the public for its monthly open weekend, offering self-paced exploration across woodlands, small prairie openings, riverbank lowlands, and a 1,700-foot stretch of the Nolan River. There is no scheduled programming during these dates, so visitors explore on their own. Reservations are not required, but preserve guidelines apply. Remain on established paths, keep pets leashed, leave natural features in place, and avoid disturbing plants and wildlife. Carry out everything you bring, and note that fires, firearms, and motorized vehicles are not permitted. Overnight camping is not allowed. Prepare for changing conditions. Check the weather beforehand, bring plenty of drinking water since none is available on the trail, and wear sunscreen and appropriate clothing. During high water, avoid the Perimeter Loop that follows the Nolan River.

Vendor booths are 10-by-10 spaces for $25, placement is first come with no assigned spots, and there is no application process. Refunds are not available. Network marketing or MLM vendors, tumblers, 3D printed items, and AI-generated materials are not permitted, and registrations in those categories are not eligible for a refund. As part of the fundraiser, hot dogs with chips and a drink will be available for $5. Visitors can browse, shop, and enjoy a festive market while supporting JN Long.

AMERICAN BLAST NSCA TOURNAMENT

The American Blast NSCA Tournament marks the first NSCA event hosted at the new Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch. Competitors can choose from six events, including 100 Target Ranch Main, 100 Target Cowtown Main, Super Sporting, 50 Target 20GA, 50 Target 28GA, and 50 Target .410 Sporting. Lunch is included for event entrants, and additional options are available. Target presentations will be designed by Travis Mears, Gary Madigan, and Christian Daniels. NEW BLACKSMITH CLASSES

Spend a full day learning blacksmithing with hands-on teaching in a small class that allows for one-on-one guidance. All tools and materials are included, and you will take home everything you create. Projects can range from knife making to ornamental ironwork within the class time. This is a full day certification course, and certificates are provided. Tuition is $300 per student. Space is limited, and registration is by phone at 254-998-0261.
