The Pup Dash 1K at La Vista Park invites people of all ages and their leashed dogs for a lighthearted run or walk filled with community spirit. Take the course at your own pace, whether you prefer to jog, stroll, or simply enjoy the adorable canine energy all around. Every participant receives a commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal to mark the achievement, making it a fun and memorable outing for you and your four-legged companion.

Center Church hosts a large community outreach focused on hope, encouragement, worship, and community. More than 500 families will receive free groceries, with additional highlights that include TV giveaways and backpacks for children while supplies last. The day features a celebration service with worship, prayer for individuals and families, prize giveaways throughout the service, and a message from Pastor Clark Ortiz. After the service, grocery distribution will begin. Everyone is welcome, and no church membership is required.

Meet a visiting dog from Mission Animal Shelter, and occasionally a cat, while a children’s story is read aloud. During the story hour, 50 percent of sales are donated to Mission Animal Shelter, helping shelter dogs spend time outside, gain socialization, and shine a light on adoptable pets seeking permanent homes. This is a free, drop-in activity open to the public.

Allysas Acres hosts a first ever pet festival filled with shopping, food, entertainment, and more. Explore pet shops and more than 40 local vendors, enjoy food and drink stalls, connect with pet adoption opportunities, and visit the petting zoo. All pets are welcome, and the experience is both pet and family friendly. Admission is free. Water stations will be available throughout the market to help furry friends stay cool, and door prizes will go to the first 100 pet lovers in line.

A weekly Pokémon tournament welcomes players ready to battle with their own decks. Entry is $5 and includes a participation pack. Rounds follow Swiss pairings, and top finishers earn store credit.

Enjoy a two-hour guided birding tour through the park that welcomes all ages and experience levels. The goal is to spot as many species as possible, with a special focus on the 30 birds known as Valley Specialties. More than 365 species have been recorded here, including many that are hard to find outside the Rio Grande Valley. The route often showcases the renowned birding deck, a single vantage point with a one-day record of 115 species overlooking the wetlands, and the Tropical Area, which features sightings of Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Clay-colored Thrushes and has attracted rarities such as Elegant Trogon, Rose-throated Becard, White-throated Thrush, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. If conditions are very warm and humid, and if group size and weather allow, the tour may take place from a quiet electric tram throughout the park. This family-friendly experience is free with park admission at $5 for adults, with children admitted at no charge. Loaner binoculars are available at no cost. Meet on the deck just outside the Visitor Center Park Store, and note that pets are not permitted.

Explore the park with a ranger-led butterfly and dragonfly tour designed for all ages and experience levels. More than 300 butterfly species and 100 dragonfly species fly in the Valley, and the outing highlights remarkable insects, including some found only in South Texas and, in the United States, only in that region. If the weather is too hot, a tram is available to help the group move around. Cameras or binoculars are welcome, and loaner binoculars are available. Meet on the deck outside the Park Store. This tradition at Estero has featured butterfly tours every Friday for nineteen years. Free with park entry, which is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
