Before the feature, enjoy the Vintage Video Preshow curated by the Movie Mutant, packed with wonderfully weird trailers, music videos, and oddball clips that fit the theme. Later, a raffle decides who spins the Wheel of Weird, and the grand prize winner chooses the secret film that caps the night. Plan ahead: attendees must be 16 or older. Bus drivers serve as the first friendly face students see each day and ensure safe rides to and from school. The district provides paid CDL training for those hired. Starting pay is $22.75 per hour, overtime is common for most drivers, and benefits include health insurance and retirement.

Dove hunters and clay shooters can sharpen skills at a four-week sporting clays league hosted by Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch. The format is designed to build confidence with a field gun, boost reaction time, and provide a focused pre-season tune-up. Competitors shoot 50 targets each week, with access to a practice course and 5-stand before and after their rounds. Target presentations are set by course manager Gary Madigan with Christian Daniels. The league fee is $180 for the full four weeks and includes the league party with dinner and awards, with a 10 percent discount available to members. Teams must consist of at least four and no more than six shooters. Each week, the team total counts the top four individual results including handicap. Team rosters are finalized by the end of the first week. Individual participants will be placed together to form a team, and each shooter may compete for only one team. Individual awards include high overall and runner-up, A and B class winners, high junior and runner-up junior, first through fourth for ladies, and most improved. Team awards recognize first and second overall, A class first place, and high lady team. Members receive a 10 percent discount. Registering before the first week enters participants in a drawing for 100 free targets. At the league party, a drawing among those present awards a free entry into the next league. The top five shooters advance to a final during the party, where 25 targets are added to each finalist’s league handicap total to determine the overall winner. Handicaps are calculated each week by comparing a shooter’s score to a par of 45 and adding 70 percent of the difference to the score. For example, a 30 earns 10.5 handicap points. The maximum adjusted score with handicap is 45. If a week is missed, a bank round must be completed within that same week. Otherwise, an average of two other weeks will be recorded for that week, and this policy also applies to weather interruptions.

The 41st Annual Trinity 5000 Summer Series returns to the Trinity Trails, the longest-running event on the trail system founded by Ricky Cox in 1985. Runners, walkers, families, and friends from across DFW gather along the Trinity River for fitness, fun, and community, with the start and finish at the Trinity Trails Zero Mile Marker. Each race begins with a free Kids 1K Fun Run followed by a 5K run or walk. Race-day registration is offered, but each race is limited to 250 participants and may close once full. The kickoff race treats all finishers to a custom 41st Annual finisher medal and a technical race shirt. Registration options include the complete 12-race series with a technical shirt or single-race entries, with no-shirt and with-shirt choices available in later weeks. Free parking and complimentary soft drinks and refreshments are provided. The course is fast and flat, with water available at miles 1 and 2, and Ricky Cox’s familiar “It’s Hot” speech is part of the tradition. After finishing, many stay under the trees for the Arbor Society gathering, formerly known as the Bridge Club, a relaxed chance to reconnect with friends and meet new runners. Weekly awards recognize overall and masters champions, multiple age groups, Clydesdale and Athena divisions, and race walkers. Point Series standings are posted weekly after Week 3, with season-ending awards at the conclusion of the series, and anyone who completes all 12 races in person earns the Trinity 5000 Series Survivor Award.

JSJC’s 4th Annual Jeeps & Treats returns to the same location as the past three years and now welcomes participation from all Jeep clubs. Parking will be arranged along the baseball fields with vehicles oriented toward the park. Children will once again choose their favorite Jeep, so festive decorations are encouraged. Previous editions have drawn several hundred kids, so participants may want to prepare for a large turnout. More than 1,000 visual artists showcase their work along an art walk that stretches for over a mile, with additional exhibits hosted inside neighborhood restaurants, bars, shops, and offices. Around 50 live music performances and 50 local food vendors add to the experience, keeping the spotlight on homegrown talent across every medium and stage of experience. Launched more than two decades ago as an indoor gallery night supporting the district’s revitalization, the event now draws over 80,000 people to explore by foot, transit, or bicycle. Partnerships with arts organizations bring special moments throughout the day, with past highlights including pop-up concerts from Fort Worth Opera, vibrant performances by Ballet Folklorico de Azteca, and sets from indie artists Sarah Jaffe, Ben Kweller, and Sir Woman. The festival is produced by Near Southside Arts in partnership with Near Southside, Inc., continuing a mission to uplift this lively urban neighborhood and the artists who call it home.
