Resilience and Resistance: The Life of Dr. E.B. Henderson

Historian and educator Edwin B. Henderson II, founder of the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, presents a lecture on the legacy of his grandfather, Dr. E. B. Henderson. The program explores how Dr. Henderson organized the first rural NAACP branch and helped bring basketball to Washington, D.C.’s African American community, a pioneering role that led to his recognition as the Grandfather of Black Basketball. Henderson will also share stories of his family’s multi-generational dedication to civil rights. Registration is recommended, and walk-ins are welcome.

Julia Sues for Freedom: A Play

At Ball-Sellers House, an original play explores the 1842 court case Julia Roberts v. Austin Adams and Anne Harding. The story follows Roberts, an enslaved woman, as she brings a legal claim to win her freedom. The script is grounded in original case records and notes from trial testimony, along with research by Jessica Kaplan, Zachary Newkirk, and the Memorializing the Enslaved in Arlington team. It is presented in partnership between the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington and Guillotine Theatre, with support from the Arlington Historical Society. Audience participation is part of the performance, and those who wish to serve on the jury can indicate interest upon arrival.

2026 Marymount 5K Powered by Medstar Health

Presented by Marymount University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in partnership with MedStar Health Physical Therapy, this 11th annual 5K run and walk follows the Bluemont and Custis Trails and features a chip-timed race with a festive post-race celebration that includes food, music, and more. The event is family friendly. Strollers are welcome, and those using them are encouraged to start toward the back. Pets are not permitted. A virtual option is available for participants who cannot attend in person. Registration includes an event shirt and other 5K swag for those who sign up by the posted deadline, and participants earn points toward the Year-Long 5k, Back of the Pack, and Spring Series. Fees are $45 for the general public, $35 for Marymount faculty and staff, and $15 for Marymount students, with prices increasing by $5 on race day. Promotional or discount codes from Bishop’s Events cannot be applied to this race. One water station will be available on the course. Restrooms are located near the start and finish, and there are no shower facilities. Packet pickup will be available on site, and race day registration will be offered. Madison Street Tattoo is hosting a flash tattoo fundraiser that supports AWLA, with all proceeds donated in honor of its 80th anniversary. Stumbling Stones Dedication - Fairlington Historical Society & FCA

FCA and the Fairlington Historical Society are holding a dedication ceremony honoring Harry, born around 1770, and Milley, born around 1755, who were enslaved on land that is now known as Fairlington. The gathering takes place at the Fairlington Villages Community Center, and the community is welcome to attend. An RSVP is appreciated, though it is not required. Those who wish to memorialize another enslaved person connected to present-day Fairlington may purchase a stone by donating to the Arlington Historical Society and indicating that the contribution is for Stumbling Stones in Fairlington.

The Soul of Algeria: Music, Fashion, Food & Stories

At Trinity UMC - Alexandria, The Thirteen pivots from an extensive journey through Monteverdi’s sacred repertoire to a new look at his secular art. The program centers on madrigals and pairs them with works from the Renaissance to Baroque crossroads by Carlo Gesualdo and Barbara Strozzi. These selections are set alongside secular songs by contemporary composers, including Eric Whitacre, Ildebrando Pizzetti, Morton Lauridsen, and others. Spark curiosity at LEGO Discovery Center Washington D.C. with hands-on building and learning using LEGO bricks. Scouts who show proof of membership, such as a uniform, vest, sash, pin, or badge, receive complimentary admission and may bring up to six friends or family members at 30 percent off. Craft Bar Walk-In Crafting

Walk-in crafting is available during Craft Bar hours, and no registration is needed. Pick a mini wood or canvas project, then use the workshop studio space and art supplies to bring it to life. Another hands on option is candle pouring, where a custom scent can be blended at the Scent Bar. Finished candles require time to solidify and will be available for pickup during regular business hours. For best results, allow about a week of curing before lighting. A Bracelet bAR station is also available for creating a personalized beaded bracelet.

Date Night: A Taste of Tuscany at Sur La Table

The menu features strip steak with Chianti pan sauce, crispy gnocchi, an arugula salad with lemon Parmesan dressing, and strawberry thyme sorbetto.

Reiki Share & Community Building

An in-person Reiki share at Alexandria Massage Therapy and Wellness Center creates a relaxed space for connection, healing, and community. Practitioners from any lineage participate, giving and receiving Reiki in a supportive circle. The session is suited to both experienced practitioners and those still learning who want a place to practice, exchange energy, and meet like-minded people. This gathering takes place every other Saturday.

Country Dancing for Couples and Line Dancers

Enjoy an evening of country dancing that welcomes both couples and line dancers, with music provided by DJ Kevin Handy. The night includes quick reviews from the previous dance, followed by a line dance lesson featuring Cabin Fever with Steve and a couples lesson in East Coast Swing with Linda. Inspira Dance Grand Opening

A grand opening dance night at Inspira Dance features a beginner Bachata lesson, a Country Swing lesson, and three hours of open social dancing set to Latin and Country music. The newly refreshed space offers fresh paint and new floors at Ballston Quarter. No partner or experience is required. Parking is available in a paid garage for $1 for three hours, and the venue connects directly to the metro. Admission is $15 and includes both lessons and the social dancing.

Leonid & Friends

This performance at The Birchmere is sold out. Leonid & Friends present a faithful, high-energy celebration of the music of Chicago, a project launched by founder Leonid Vorobyev as a studio tribute built on a musicians-for-musicians ethos. Early videos took off online, and momentum grew when Chicago featured the band on its official site. The 11-piece ensemble has since widened its repertoire to include songs by Earth, Wind & Fire, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Ides of March, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, and Deep Purple, along with original material. YHP Alexandria: Age of Sigmar RTT

Your Hobby Place - Alexandria hosts a monthly ITC Age of Sigmar Rogue Trader Tournament for 2000 point armies, using the General’s Handbook Pitched Battles 2025-26 and Pitched Battle Profiles. The day features three rounds of play with a lunch break that includes a Best Painted vote, followed by results and prizing at the end. Rules and army lists are due the Friday before the event, and lists will be shared once all have been submitted. Entry is $20, paid in store, with space for 24 players. All entry fees go toward prizes awarded via a Wheel of Prize Support, and participants must be present at the end to claim any prize. There is no painting requirement. Proxies and conversions must be approved by the Tournament Organizer before list submission, and all proxies must use the correct base size. A waitlist will be used if the event fills, and players who do not check in with a valid list uploaded may forfeit their spot to the next person on the in-store waitlist. Through step by step exploration of composition, texture, layering, and distressing, participants craft collages with depth and meaning that are ready to frame. Most supplies are provided, and attendees need only bring a few basic tools and matte medium. The registration fee includes a generous kit with vintage ephemera, handpicked papers, word banners and phrases, lace, ribbons, fabric leaves, paper frames, gold Dresden, gold leaf, matboard, and an 8 by 10 gold frame.

Spring Show and Sale

The annual Spring Show and Sale at The Studios at Arlington Arts features work by more than 20 member artists. 2026 Alexandria Sister Cities’ Whisky Tasting

The City of Alexandria’s Sister Cities Committee presents the annual Alexandria Sister Cities’ Whisky Tasting. Guests can partake in a guided tasting of whiskies from various regions of Scotland and gain insight into the craftsmanship and culture. Attendees can sample five different whiskies from Scotland, ask questions, and share personal insights. VIP ticket holders will receive two additional exclusive samples of rare whiskies. BoDeans - 40th Anniversary!

At The Birchmere, BoDeans marks 40 years since its debut, Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams, with a two and a half hour concert that includes a video retrospective. The set draws from all 14 studio albums, spans five decades of music, and features songs such as Good Things, You Don’t Get Much, Idaho, and Closer to Free. The band was founded by Kurt Neumann, who serves as lead vocalist, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, and producer. The early run of albums included Outside Looking In, Home, Black and White, and Go Slow Down, whose track Closer to Free later became the theme for Party of Five. Over the years BoDeans has built its live reputation while sharing stages with U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, The Pretenders, and David Bowie, and by appearing at Farm Aid, Summerfest, and ACL.

Celebrate the moms in your life with a new 5k and 10k hosted at Port City Brewing. The courses begin and end by the brewery, and participants can relax afterward with a beer among friends or family. Participants receive a glass of beer from Port City Brewing, a finisher medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing. Results will be available online, with a QR code on-site for immediate access, and runner tracking by SMS is offered at registration. Points from these races count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Back of the Pack, and Sippin Series, and a virtual option is available for those who prefer to run remotely. Expect a mostly flat, paved route with a brief stretch of light gravel near the start. The 10k covers the out-and-back course twice. Pick up the pace with a chip timed 5k on a flat, paved out and back between Lake Accotink and Byron Ave, a straightforward route built for speed. Walkers are welcome. All finishers receive a medal, and there are no shirts for this event. The 5k registration fee is $22, with a small increase on race day. Points count toward the Weekday Race Series, which includes eight events in 2026, as well as the Year-Long 5k and Back of the Pack Series. The Back of the Pack Series is geared toward participants who average above the designated pace so athletes of similar speed can compete and earn series points. Expect live results with an on-site QR code for instant access, followed by final standings with series points posted after the event. The tour brings back the intimate Secular Hymns trio, featuring Peyroux with upright bassist Barak Mori and guitarist Jon Herington, in venues across Canada and the United States. The program includes original material alongside interpretations of songs by Judy Collins, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Nick Lowe, and Allen Toussaint, writer of We Are America/Yes We Can.

Marc Broussard brings a rich mix of soul, blues, and rock to The Birchmere with Sway Wild. Raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the son of Ted Broussard, a Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist known for the Boogie Kings, he began honing his craft early in a vibrant local scene. An independent EP at 20 set the stage for his major-label debut, Carencro, whose single Home introduced him to audiences far beyond his roots. Since then, he has built a catalog defined by Southern soul, emotional honesty, and a commanding baritone, earning praise for blending Louisiana blues with high-energy rock and roll. His album S.O.S. V Songs of the ’50s revisits classic soul, blues, rock, and pop from that era, adds a couple of early 60s selections, and includes an original of his own. The release is part of his ongoing philanthropic series that supports the nonprofit Love of People in his hometown. Sway Wild shares the bill for this performance.

For the first time the songs were crafted collectively with the full touring lineup, as founding members Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist, and Kanene Pipkin worked with drummer Julian Dorio and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Geertsma to capture the electricity of their stage sound in music filled with warmth, honesty, and connection. Recorded live in Muscle Shoals after a writing retreat in a converted Kentucky firehouse, the record reflects on friendship, loss, love, and resilience. From the gritty opener After The Rain to the moving closing track What A Time To Be Alive, it showcases rich harmonies, heartfelt storytelling, and a blend of folk, rock, and gospel. The project endured the theft of early recordings, and the supportive response from fans underscored that these songs are a shared experience, a spirit heard in anthems like Common Folk and I'm Here For You as well as quieter moments like You Were Leaving and Night Goes Black. MAG Community Bike Party Across the Potomac

Anacostia Riverkeepers Boat Ride and Fundraiser / PRE-REGISTER NOW

Take a scenic boat ride at Navy Yard Marina that also supports Anacostia Riverkeepers, who have recently lost some funding. Pre-registration by email is required; send your name, email, and the amount you can commit to donate to plaisantshop@gmail.com. The group must raise at least $700 for the ride to proceed. A $34 per person minimum works only if all 21 seats are filled, and with 15 passengers the average pledge would need to be $47 per person. If the $700 goal is not reached, the ride will be canceled. Catherine will review pledged totals by a set checkpoint and will either cancel or send payment instructions. Payments will be collected by PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle, and Catherine will coordinate transferring all donations to Anacostia Riverkeepers. All donations are nonrefundable. If the forecast calls for light rain, the trip will go ahead. If heavy rain is expected, the Riverkeepers will cancel and propose another date. 2026 Spring Memorial 5k/10k/Half

Take on a 5k, 10k, or half marathon on the scenic paths around Lake Accotink. Participants earn points toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Spring Series. Walkers are welcome. Runners receive a finisher medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing. A virtual option is available for those who prefer to run remotely. This event supports the EOD Warrior Foundation, which assists the EOD community and maintains the EOD Memorial. The 5k follows an out-and-back route on the south side of the lake. The 10k begins on the north side for an out-and-back, then continues with an out-and-back on the south side. It is primarily on trails with a section of pavement. The half marathon heads out along the north side before returning through the start and finish area and then completes the 5k course, with roughly half the distance on pavement. Course maps and elevation details are provided by the organizer. Aid stations are placed along each course, with one on the 5k, three on the 10k, and eight on the half, and some locations include sports drink. Restrooms are available near the beach at the top of the hill. Live results and on-site QR codes make it easy to view times quickly, with final results and series points posted after the race. SMS tracking is available during registration so friends and family can follow progress. Top three men and women overall receive awards, and age group awards go to first and second place in 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Overall podium finishers are not eligible for age group awards. Staff photos from race day are shared afterward. Packet pickup is available on-site, and on-site registration is offered, though shirt sizes are not guaranteed for those who register at the event. The Back of the Pack Series is designed for participants with higher average paces so runners of similar speed can compete for series points. Volunteers support water stations, course marshaling, and the finish line, with assignments made on race morning. Race shirts and medal designs are shared in advance on social channels. The event follows an all-weather policy and typically proceeds rain or shine, with updates sent to registered runners if plans change. After seventeen years he pursued a solo path with Motown releases such as his self titled debut and Open Invitation, followed by Always in the Mood, then First Class Only on Scotti Brothers and Street Life. He later reunited with Blue Lovett and the group for a 30th anniversary performance. This concert celebrates timeless, heartfelt soul from a voice that continues to resonate with fans.

2026 Tuesday Night 5k #4

This chip timed 5k welcomes both runners and walkers on the flat, paved Lake Accotink to Byron Avenue out and back course. Shirts are not provided, however every finisher receives a medal. Results count toward the Weekday Race Series as well as the Year-Long 5k and Back of the Pack Series. The Back of the Pack program is not a cutoff. It is a series created for participants who average a pace higher than the listed benchmark so athletes with similar pacing can compete and earn points. Registration for the 5k is $22, with a modest increase on race day. Race day registration and on-site packet pickup are available, and arriving early helps with check in. Live results can be accessed via a QR code at the event, and final results with series points will be posted online after the race. Optional runner tracking provides text updates to you and your supporters. Event photos captured by staff will be shared on social media following the race. One aid station is placed around mile 1.55 with water and, at times, sports drink, and offerings may change as needed. Restrooms are located at the top of the hill near the beach.
