The Klinger Street neighborhood comes together for a community-wide yard sale, with multiple households setting out their goods so visitors can browse finds up and down the street. Residents who wish to take part can register their homes to be included on a live map and on advertising signs, making it easier for shoppers to locate participating addresses. Those not hosting a sale can still contribute by donating clean, reusable items in good condition to Youth Exploration and Travel, which will sell them to raise funds that help Skagit Valley youth participate in educational or sports travel. Dash plaques will be provided to every entry, and awards will be presented in five categories: Show, Street Legal, Weekend Warrior, Extreme, and Side by Sides or UTVs. The organization recovers surplus food and products from local businesses, farms, and community members, keeping them out of landfills, and provides programs and resources that strengthen family resilience and sustainability. Skagit Gleaners serves nearly 600 families throughout Skagit County, with nearly 30 percent of participants being migrant or farmworker households. Proceeds from this 5% Friday will supply the Hand-Harvest Gleaning program with tools and materials. This summer alone, the program has saved 15,000 pounds of food that would otherwise have gone to waste, and added support will help expand its reach and further cut waste.

Hosted by Hanz Araki, this informal Irish music seisiún gathers players and listeners to share traditional tunes for the simple pleasure of playing together. It is not a gig or an audition. Respect for the music, the session, and fellow players guides the experience. The host sets a comfortable pace, kicks off sets, and helps keep the atmosphere welcoming. Expect group playing of Irish and Scottish repertoire rather than soloing or improvisation. Favorites may not surface every time, and that is part of the living nature of a session. Those still learning are welcome to suggest a tune, play quietly while catching the melody by ear, or just listen and pick up new material. When space is tight, offering a seat to a more experienced player is appreciated. Acoustic instruments commonly found in this tradition fit best, and electrified instruments are discouraged. Piano has long had a place in sessions, and a keyboard can work when the volume is carefully managed. Some instruments present extra challenges, yet skilled players do make them work for jigs and reels. Rhythm instruments benefit from care and communication. Multiple guitars, bouzoukis, or bodhráns can mask the melody, so taking turns, asking before jumping in, or playing very quietly helps the music breathe. Trading between melody and harmony can be a satisfying approach when it serves the tune. Songs are welcome in moderation, often unaccompanied, especially if a chorus invites others to join. Dancing is encouraged. Jigs, reels, slides, polkas, waltzes, and barndances are made for steps, with softer footwear preferred unless doing sean-nós. New original tunes can be shared thoughtfully, keeping in mind that others may not know them. Free-form jamming is not the goal, since the focus is on shared traditional sets. Each session has its own character, yet the aim remains the same: the good of the group and the joy of the tunes. If any issues arise, the host is there to help maintain a friendly, inclusive space.

Hosted by Hanz Araki with support from the Celtic Arts Foundation, this monthly traditional singing session creates a welcoming space for the song-focused heart of Celtic music. Voices carry the music without instruments, and the aim is learning and sharing rather than performing for an audience or entering a contest. Both singers and listeners are welcome. Singing in Gaelic is not required, and anyone may simply listen for as long as they wish. Participants are encouraged to learn songs by memory and to avoid distributing lyric sheets, using brief notes only if necessary. Respectful audio recording for personal study may be allowed with the singer’s permission, while video and public posting are discouraged. The repertoire centers on traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man. American old-time pieces with shared roots may occasionally fit, but the focus remains on traditional material rather than newly written songs in a similar style. Hanz emphasizes the freedom of unaccompanied singing and the chance to discover a song from the inside. This gathering supports the singing tradition in the Northwest and takes place at the Littlefielc Celtic Center.

Summer Nights Concerts - GrooveBot
GrooveBot, a Bellingham-based cover band, delivers a lively mix of funk, soul, and R&B with crisp horns, smooth rhythms, and powerful vocals that get audiences moving to both classic and modern favorites. This performance is part of the Burlington Summer Nights Concert Series, a free outdoor program at the Visitor Information Center Amphitheater. Make an evening of it by picking up a meal from a downtown restaurant or visiting on-site vendors such as Mexicraves and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee. Attendees can bring lawn chairs or a blanket, come with friends and family, and settle in for a relaxed summer evening. Tales & Tunes - Eric Ode
Eric Ode, an award-winning children’s musician, poet, and storyteller, shares lively, participatory songs and stories that inspire imagination and emphasize a love of reading and learning, with special guests from Viva Farms. Part of the free Tales and Tunes summer children’s reading and concert series in downtown Burlington at the Visitor Information Center Amphitheater, the program begins with a storytime that includes chances to explore vehicles and tools brought by guests, then continues with live music. Consider bringing a low-back chair, a sack lunch, sunscreen, or a small umbrella for shade. This program is presented by Burlington Public Library together with Burlington Parks & Recreation.

Enjoy an intimate acoustic guitar concert with Alec Stone Sweet, a Pacific Northwest native whose musical life runs alongside careers in scholarship and the culinary arts. His refined, expressive playing draws on a wide range of traditions featured on his debut album, Memory & Praise. The performance highlights his own arrangements of works by 17th century Irish composer Turlough O’Carolan, spirited Appalachian fiddle sets adapted for guitar in a clawhammer approach, and dance melodies from Israel, France, and Ireland, including Mona Vu, Bells, and An Phis Fluich. Esteemed musicians Jody Stecher and Martin Simpson have praised his distinctive touch, tone, and heartfelt approach to traditional music. Sweet began playing guitar at 18, spent years in France and Italy shaping a unique style, and has taught at the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop as well as camps across the United States. Offstage he serves as a professor of comparative European politics at Oxford University and has authored or co-edited five books on international law, while also training as a cordon bleu chef. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $25 for Celtic Arts Foundation members. All sales are final and nonrefundable.

Auditions for Rent take place at the Phil Tarro Theatre on the Skagit Valley College campus. Prepare a 60 second vocal selection in the style of the show, not from the score. A pianist will be available, and a Bluetooth speaker can be used for your track. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Prior singing or stage experience is helpful but not required. TAG prioritizes authentic representation and is actively welcoming BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, and artists of every background, identity, and expression are welcome to audition. Reptile educator April Jackson, known as the Reptile Lady and daughter of the Reptile Man, leads a presentation on reptiles and their role in a healthy ecosystem, with a chance to see these animals up close. Parking is available in nearby public lots, or at the library with a short walk to the amphitheater. Plan to arrive early enough to park and find a place to sit, and consider bringing a blanket or chairs for comfort. If the weather is poor, the program will be moved into the library. This event is part of the Fun at One Series, which also includes activities like decorating library carts and a magic show with Elliot Hunter later in the summer.

Support the Stuff the Bus diaper drive at the Skagit County Fair. Skagit Transit is participating, and the goal is to collect 15,000 diapers. Each unopened package of diapers donated earns one complimentary gate admission to the fair. An $11 donation that benefits the Diaper Bank of Skagit County also qualifies for an admission ticket. Find the drive at the Cleveland entrance. Ticket quantities are limited, and the total number to be released will be announced closer to the fair.
