Garden Guardians Kids Club – Week 2: Butterfly Craft Week

Week 2 of the Garden Guardians Kids Club at Andy’s Garden Center in Vestavia celebrates butterflies with a make-and-take craft paired with simple lessons on the butterfly life cycle, caterpillars, pollinators, and how these insects help gardens thrive. The activity is relaxed and self-guided so kids can create and learn alongside a parent or grandparent. Registration is not required, and this is not a drop-off program. At Rojo Birmingham, this gathering centers on fatherhood and uses mindfulness to elevate our shared humanity. Communal conversation, playful humor, and purposeful storytelling aim to deepen connection grounded in kindness, love, integrity, respect, and peace. A spontaneous parenting panel invites attendees to submit fatherhood topics into a bag or bottle. A panelist selects one at random, and the person who suggested it is invited to share background and join the discussion, with each topic explored for about 15 to 20 minutes. The program also features a dad joke face off where the audience chooses the winner, with prizes to be determined. A storytelling segment encourages fathers to reflect on a challenging moment in their parenting, share what they learned or how they adjusted, and offer a takeaway meant to encourage everyone in the room.

Tuesday Night Trails

At Red Mountain Park, participants spend about an hour on the trails with six options tailored to different paces and goals. The fast group covers roughly 6 to 7 miles at about an 8 minute pace without walk breaks for experienced runners who want a strong effort. The intermediate group runs about 5 miles near a 10 minute pace with one quick regroup, balancing challenge and conversation. The fast fun group goes around 4.5 miles at roughly 11 to 12 minutes per mile for a steady run without racing. The fun group completes close to 4 miles around a 12 minute pace, running flats and descents, hiking the climbs, and regrouping as needed. The beginner group moves about 3 miles near a 12 minute pace with additional breaks, adding more walking on hills while keeping an easy running rhythm on the flats. The walk and hike group covers about 2.75 miles at a brisk pace, sometimes sticking to the BMRR South Trail and other times visiting the old mines and Ike Maston for extra elevation. Group leaders and sweepers help match participants to the right pace and keep everyone together so no one is left behind.

WORKPLAY presents mc chris with support from Swell Rell. This appearance arrives as he marks 25 years since many first discovered him on Adult Swim and celebrates a Marvel inspired album titled King in Black. After years of days at Cartoon Network and nights making music, he took his act on the road and built a lasting connection with packed rooms of fans that has carried through the decades. Many know him as MC P Pants from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, where he also worked as an animator and writer. At Black Creek Park in Fultondale, the First Annual Animal Welfare Prevention Fest brings the community together for a pet-focused experience centered on keeping animals healthy, safe, and with their families. Explore 33 activity stations spread across six zones with free vaccines and microchips, signups for spay and neuter services that include a $100 stipend, dog training demonstrations, nail trims, and pet nutrition consultations. David Wilcox

An evening with David Wilcox at Woodlawn Theatre offers an intimate, seated performance from a veteran voice in American folk, known for finely crafted songs and nuanced guitar work.
