    Sam Bush

Sam Bush comes back to the River City for a performance at The Princess Theatre in Decatur, Alabama. A trailblazer of progressive bluegrass and newgrass, he has spent more than five decades reshaping acoustic music as a mandolinist, fiddler, vocalist, bandleader, and creative force. His style blends bluegrass with rock and roll, jazz-like improvisation, reggae rhythms, and expansive jams. Raised near Bowling Green, Kentucky, and encouraged by his fiddling father, he gained early recognition as a three-time junior champion at the National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest and recorded the instrumental album Poor Richard’s Almanac while still in high school. His pursuit of a broader sound led to the Bluegrass Alliance and then to co-founding New Grass Revival with Ebo Walker, Courtney Johnson, and Curtis Burch, a group that paired traditional instrumentation with rock material and lengthy improvisation, including tours with Leon Russell. After nearly two decades with the band, he performed with Emmylou Harris’ Nash Ramblers, Lyle Lovett, and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. In the years since, he has released seven albums and a live DVD and earned the title “King of Telluride” through celebrated appearances at the Telluride bluegrass festival. His impact resonates through artists such as Punch Brothers, Steep Canyon Rangers, and Greensky Bluegrass. This concert highlights a career that bridges tradition and bold experimentation.

Paul Thorn brings his Life Is Just a Vapor tour to The Princess Theatre in Decatur, Alabama, delivering a night of songs that mix humor, heart, and hard-won wisdom. For more than thirty years, the former professional boxer has written candid, catchy tunes that speak to everyday life, turning big truths into simple lines you can carry with you. His latest album leans into that approach, offering reassurance and uplift when the world feels uncertain. Drawing on blues, rock, gospel, and country, Thorn’s set moves from lighthearted storytelling to tender reflections on love, loss, and time. The title track, influenced in part by his friendship with John Prine, underscores a central theme... life is short, so live it fully. The performance centers on connection and plainspoken insight at a cherished North Alabama stage.

    Ben Chapman

The Princess Theatre, 112 2nd Ave NE, Decatur
    See details

Ben Chapman brings the Feet On Fire Tour to The Princess Theatre, reflecting a chapter of rapid growth on and off the road. In recent years he has been a constant presence on tour, penned songs for Hayes Carll, Brent Cobb, and Marcus King, made his Grand Ole Opry debut, and delivered three albums that blend country muscle with a funky streak. The tour shares its name with his new record, Feet on Fire, a collection shaped by his marriage to fellow songwriter Meg McRee and the arrival of their first child. On the album, the guitar-charged title track pairs swirling Pink Floyd atmosphere with the rough-edged drive of Crazy Horse. Other standouts include the easy-rolling Out in the Country, which nods to his southern roots, and the soul-steeped ballad Missing You. Produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Anderson East, the project channels a season of change into heartfelt, hard-earned songs.
