Voices from the Past – Revolutionary Stories
An immersive living history program at Greenwood Cemetery, presented by OLLI at UA and the Chief Tuskaloosa Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, brings the past to life among the headstones. Twelve costumed interpreters are stationed beside the graves of the real people they portray, sharing the personal stories of their lives and the roles they played. Featured perspectives span pivotal eras and themes, including the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, women’s history, African American history, and other moments that helped shape the nation. Visitors may explore at their own pace, meeting each storyteller and connecting individual experiences to broader chapters of history. This outdoor experience welcomes those who enjoy history and storytelling. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Established in 1819, Greenwood Cemetery is the oldest burial ground in Tuscaloosa. The program is presented in recognition of 250 years of America.
