CAKE brings its distinctive, genre-blending sound to the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater in Tuscaloosa. Their album Showroom of Compassion topped the Billboard 200, with The New Yorker praising its deadpan brilliance. CAKE has been working on a ninth album slated for release in autumn 2025. The group contributed the song “Hold You (Responsible)” to the Noise For Now compilation Songs for Sex, an artist response to Project 2025 that supports bodily autonomy, reproductive freedoms, and personal privacy, and they expressed appreciation for the chance to advocate for reproductive rights for all citizens. Ahead of a recent show in San Antonio, they recorded “Billionaire in Space” for Texas Public Radio’s Live From the Freight Elevator session, a track planned for their upcoming album that lead vocalist John McCrea described as an observation about billionaires, economic imbalance, and the feeling of being left behind. Their live performance channels this inventive mix of influences into a sound and vision that are uniquely their own.
