📰 In the news
Local imagery meets justice: Flagstaff’s Beautification and Public Art Commission approved a CJCC plan to add Coconino County photography inside Superior Court, aiming to make the courthouse more welcoming for defendants, jurors, and visitors — get all the details.
Governor’s pick with local roots: Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett was appointed to the Arizona Commission on the Arts, reflecting her nonprofit leadership and advocacy for affordable housing, the arts, forest health, climate action, and education — learn more about her appointment.
Bluegrass heavyweights set the tone: Flagstaff’s Pickin’ in the Pines unveiled its 20th anniversary lineup led by The Infamous Stringdusters, returning to Pepsi Amphitheater Sept. 18 to 20. Tickets will go on sale March 5 — check out the full lineup.
Young wordsmiths take spotlight: Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Mango-Paget announced the 2026 County Spelling Bee winners and runners-up, with students countywide competing and Flagstaff Rotary Club providing judges and financial awards — read the full story.
Gold & silver are hot: Coming off gold’s best year since 1979, the momentum is carrying well into 2026 with silver remaining one of the most talked-about assets. Curious why precious metals are back in focus? American Hartford Gold has a free guide that explains what’s happening and how people are approaching it today. It’s free – and definitely worth a read.
Compare rates for free: The national average for car insurance is around $175 per month. Paying more than that? Same, so I did some shopping around and ended up cutting my premium in half. If you haven’t checked in a while, you’re probably overpaying too — here’s the comparison tool I used.
Nothing prepares you for a pet emergency: I learned that the hard way after charging $10k to a credit card for life-saving surgery on my cat, Miss Stache. As soon as we got home, I signed up for Spot. It’s super affordable – and reimburses up to 90% of the bill.

Highlights this week:

🫶 We got your back
Mall makeover gains momentum: Buckle will replace Peter Piper Pizza at the Varsity Shopping Center in Flagstaff as part of a larger expansion of the center. Renovations are underway at the former restaurant on South Riordan Ranch Street, and a second Buckle location is also planned for the city. Get all the details.
Bridging the connectivity gap: Arizona has awarded $42 million to Wecom Fiber to expand high-speed internet across Coconino County. About 10,500 homes and businesses, including rural areas around Flagstaff, Munds Park, Sedona, Parks, Bellemont, and Forest Lakes, are slated for service. The funding comes through the state’s BEAD program. See which areas are included.
Sugar break, anyone? Downtown’s Sweet Shoppe Candy Store turns rough Mondays into caramel-apple-and-fudge days, with gelato and nostalgic candy aisles to wander when your brain needs a timeout. The folks scooping and boxing actually make the sweets, so their picks sing, and your sweet tooth leaves happy.
Closet upgrade, sustainably: Wardrobe feeling stale? Northend Consignment curates gently loved designer and vintage pieces with a Flagstaff-creative vibe, plus accessories and locally made finds. Expect a treasure hunt of one-of-a-kind pieces, and when your closet’s overflowing, consigning is simple, transparent, and actually worth it.
What do people see when they search your name? Search results can surface past mistakes or outdated information that no longer reflects who you are. BetterReputation helps remove and clean up unwanted content so your online presence matches your real life today. Not worried about yourself? Doesn’t hurt to mention it to family or friends who might be.
Take control of your credit card debt: High interest can keep you stuck paying more than you need to. A balance transfer card with 0% intro APR until 2027 and no annual fee gives you time to pay down what you owe without interest working against you. By transferring your balance, more of your payment goes toward the principal so you can actually make a dent in what you owe.
