Dog Days After Dark

When night falls, the Garden opens its gates for an evening made for dogs and their humans to explore together. On select Wednesday nights, glowing pathways lead through 10 immersive light installations that wash the desert landscape in vivid color. Follow the illuminated trails as shifting hues and rhythmic effects reshape each turn, and take in the signature Desert Pulse installation that sets a radiant tone for a laid-back stroll. Drinks and pup cups are available while supplies last. For safety and comfort, keep dogs leashed, licensed, current on vaccinations, and under control at all times. Water fountains and refill stations are available throughout the Garden, and owners should clean up after their pets and use the provided trash receptacles. Dogs are not permitted at Gertrude’s by Tarbell’s or The RAF Gallery. Stay alert to cactus pieces and other debris, keep pets on the trails, and watch for signs of heat stress. Dogs that act aggressively toward people or other dogs will be required to leave.

Ed Mell: A Closer Look with Dr. Mark Sublette

At Phoenix Art Museum, Dr. Mark Sublette offers a thoughtful look at the art of Ed Mell, 1942 to 2024. Celebrated for bold color and crisp, geometric forms, Mell painted sweeping cloudscapes, layered geology, and desert life across the Colorado Plateau and the Sonoran Desert. The talk explores his methods in the studio and his approach to translating movement and energy in landscape, with particular attention to works now displayed in the museum’s renovated North Wing. A Phoenix native, Mell was connected to Arizona’s arts community for more than five decades and maintained a studio only blocks from Phoenix Art Museum. Ed Mell: In the Studio brings together oil studies and works on paper from 1974 to 2023 that have never been publicly shown, offering a rare window into his process and how preliminary ideas evolved into finished paintings.

Faithful Footsteps Monthly Street Outreach

This monthly street outreach focuses on connecting with unhoused neighbors through consistent, compassionate support. Volunteers assemble and share bags that include hygiene supplies, Narcan, food and drinks, socks, and first aid items, along with other donated or purchased essentials. The effort also offers prayer, meaningful conversation, and a meal, pairing immediate relief with genuine human connection. Guided by the belief that the loss of family and support is a primary driver of homelessness, the program works to help people remain housed during difficult periods and to assist those living on the streets in moving toward safety, stability, and a renewed support network. First launched as the original street outreach initiative, it continues to encourage, offer resources, and stand alongside individuals as they navigate one of the hardest chapters of life.

Max Fischer, played by Jason Schwartzman, is Rushmore Academy’s most activity-obsessed student and least devoted to textbooks. As he faces expulsion, he forms unlikely connections with a caring first-grade teacher, portrayed by Olivia Williams, and a melancholic self-made millionaire, played by Bill Murray in an award-winning role. Occupational Hazards

At PearlCorp, the coffee disappoints, colleagues are surprisingly welcoming, and the role itself raises more questions than answers. Occupational Hazards follows a team of office workers racing to hit quotas, navigating workplace politics, and guiding a skeptical new hire, while an ordinary sea of cubicles conceals a setting that is anything but typical. This darkly comic world premiere from Rob Evans explores how far people will go for success, stability, and the lure of strong benefits. Presented by Space 55 and directed by Artistic Director BJ Garrett, the production features Sarafina Starling, Carrie Ellen Jones, Amy Garland, and Marcella Grassa, and is staged at Metropolitan Arts Institute. Nate Bargatze Phoenix

Nate Bargatze delivers a night of clean, low-key stand-up at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix. With an unhurried rhythm and clear, deceptively simple stories, he turns everyday mix-ups, family moments, and the oddities of modern life into steady laughs. His easygoing presence pairs with the desert setting to create an intimate feel, even in a large arena. The result is comedy at its smoothest, warm, clever, and quietly hilarious.

Ice Dyeing Workshop

Explore the colorful art of ice dyeing in a hands-on workshop where melting ice helps create ethereal, custom designs. Learn the fundamentals of working with powdered fiber reactive dyes, experiment with different effects, and craft distinctive pieces you will be excited to show off. Instruction covers two techniques. One sets fabric on a rack so dye-laden meltwater drips through the cloth. The other places the fabric directly in the melt, often called working in the muck. Participants will take their projects home in sealed containers and receive rinse and wash guidance to finish the process after 24 hours or more. This seasonal session is offered once each year, then the unit is retired until next summer.
