Author Event - Jim Hinckley

An author appearance with Jim Hinckley spotlights the storytelling behind Jim Hinckley’s America, a project rooted in a love of road travel and a mission to encourage discovering the nation by car. Launched in 1990 with the support of his wife Judy, his work began with feature pieces for numerous publications and a monthly column titled The Independent Thinker for Cars & Parts magazine. His stories honor lesser known contributors to American history, from innovators like Ralph Teetor to everyday people who helped shape the country. Over the years he has written books on subjects that include the Checker Cab Manufacturing Company, Route 66, Southwestern journeys, and the development of American car culture. That body of work grew into a broad platform with an active website and blog, presentations for audiences around the world, a YouTube channel, a strong social media presence, and Coffee With Jim, a weekly podcast recognized as an official Route 66 Centennial program. His travels have taken him from Route 66 festivals in Europe to book signings across the United States, always focused on sharing America’s story and helping travelers find their way. Admission is $15 for non-members and $10 for museum members. RSVP is requested.

Waiting for Godot

This celebrated play holds up a mirror to everyday behavior, showing how simple it can feel to tell others what to do while our own choices stall. From the sidelines advice seems obvious, yet in personal dilemmas we may fall silent, feel uncertain, or simply wait for change. The story leans into that tension and invites reflection. Often counted among the great works of theater, Waiting for Godot is by Samuel Beckett, who received the Nobel Prize. Beckett guarded his privacy and disliked the attention that followed the award. His wife even called it a catastrophe, and he did not attend the ceremony in Stockholm. In the spirit of its author, the piece does not shout for attention. It leaves room to consider action and hesitation, and how waiting can shape a life.

Their original music nods to classic fusion while staying modern and welcoming, balancing memorable themes with open moments that let the music breathe. Onstage the focus is feel, groove, and interplay rather than complexity, with funky bass lines, crisp drumming, expressive solos, and lively conversation among the players. Sets often begin in a relaxed pocket and build steadily, drawing the room in as the energy rises. This performance at The Point offers an up close look at a seasoned group.
