Windchaser Wine in Richmond offers an afternoon of blues and boogie woogie with Steve Freund, Wendy DeWitt, and Kirk Harwood. Freund, praised by Rolling Stone for his precise, no-frills guitar style, has appeared on more than 50 albums and produced seven. In 1978 he became Sunnyland Slim’s main guitarist and remained in that role until the pianist’s passing, later becoming a trusted accompanist to pianists including Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Henry Gray, and Erwin Helfer. DeWitt, on keyboards and vocals and often called the Queen of Boogie Woogie, performs at festivals and leads workshops and master classes across the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. Her credits include touring with Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and performing with Joe Lewis Walker, Big Time Sarah, and Otis Rush. Harwood, on drums, has toured or recorded with notable roots, blues, and rock artists and is especially recognized for his partnership with DeWitt. Admission is free, with tips appreciated. Their songs stray from the straight path, change shape, and gradually fade away. Perhapsy is the solo outlet of Oakland songwriter Derek Barber, a guitarist whose credits include Christopher Owens, Spacemoth, Mahawam, Bells Atlas, Astronauts, and earlier work with Curls, Salami Rose Joe Louis, Madeline Kenney, and other Bay Area groups. NextGen’s monthly dance takes place at Allegro Ballroom and features west coast swing lessons followed by social dancing with music from DJ Allie Sparkles. Dancers can choose between a class with Cameron Crook for those already familiar with west coast swing fundamentals and a beginner lesson with an instructor to be announced that welcomes newcomers or anyone looking to review the basics, with about twenty minutes reserved for social practice during that class. The Mix & Match contest is open to all levels and to any lead or follow role. Partners are paired at random and judged together across three to four songs, and if two All-Stars or higher draw each other, pairings will be adjusted. This contest is part of a progressive series that began at the November 2025 dance, and finalists will be invited back at the end of the series to compete for complimentary passes to the annual convention Boogie by the Bay just before the 2026 edition. Pricing options are as follows. General admission is $25 for lesson and dance or $15 for dance only. Beginner class attendees can purchase lesson and dance for $20. Sailing Solo at The Knot Club brings an intimate, up-close evening of music to Point San Pablo Harbor with performances by Marty O’Reilly and Hannah Mayree. Marty O’Reilly draws from the roots of Americana, blending folk, blues, gospel, and storytelling traditions, with performances that move from quiet to high energy. Hannah Mayree is a banjoist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist whose work spans original and traditional banjo compositions, live vocal looping, and community singing. Their practice includes solo, duo, trio, and full band formats, and a second studio album follows the release of Thoughts of the Night. They also founded and creatively direct the Black Banjo Reclamation Project, which creates musical, cultural, and land-based opportunities for Black and Afro-Diasporic communities to engage with the banjo as a tool for ancestral connection and future-making. Food and bar service will be available. Sailing Goat, the onsite restaurant next door to The Knot Club, offers dinner, and select dinner options will also be served from The Knot Club Kitchen. At Rawking Horse Ranch, an obstacle challenge welcomes riders of all experience levels. Participants face obstacles set in both arena and trail environments, and there is an option to take part in hand. Each obstacle features four levels of difficulty so everyone can choose an appropriate path. A new non-competitive option allows riders to complete the obstacles without expectations. This choice is not part of the series and does not compete for a buckle, and it still includes a prize for participating.

Enjoy a free, family friendly celebration of creativity where more than sixty local artists present original artwork and handcrafted pieces. Live music sets the tone while food trucks serve up bites, and a range of beverages is available, with wine and beer on offer. A Silent Auction features distinctive items contributed by artists and local businesses. Hosted in Susana Park, the setting provides generous shade and plenty of places to sit. Free parking is available nearby, and meters are not enforced on Sundays. Art in the Park is MAA’s largest yearly fundraiser. MAA, founded in 1968, is a nonprofit devoted to strengthening the arts and arts education in the community. Proceeds help fund scholarships for graduating seniors and provide art grants for teachers from elementary through high school.

NextGen’s monthly dance night takes place at Allegro Ballroom, scheduled a week earlier than usual in coordination with South Bay Dance Fling. The evening begins with two west coast swing lessons, including one with Austin Kois for dancers who already know the fundamentals and a beginner class with an instructor to be announced for those new to the dance or reviewing basics. The beginner session includes time set aside for social practice. After the lessons, the floor opens for social dancing with music by DJ Kathleen Sun. A Mix & Match contest welcomes participants of any level and any lead or follow role. Dancers are randomly paired and judged together over several songs, and if two All-Stars or higher draw one another they will be re-paired. Finalists from the series will be invited back to compete for complimentary passes to the annual convention, Boogie by the Bay. Pricing is available for a variety of attendees. General admission is $25 for lesson and dance or $15 for dance only. Beginner class attendees pay $20 for the lesson and dance. Next Gen members pay $15 for lesson and dance or $10 for dance only. Juniors 18 and under pay $17 for lesson and dance or $7 for dance only.

The Artisan Fair at the Solano Stroll transforms an empty lot into a lively marketplace filled with handmade work. Explore artisan jewelry and candles, one-of-a-kind clothing and textiles, and pieces crafted in ceramics, glass, wood, and leather, with Sundrop Jewelry among the makers. This fair is part of the larger Solano Avenue Stroll, a mile-long celebration along Solano Avenue in Berkeley and Albany that has been welcoming the community since 1974. The Stroll brings together more than four hundred vendors, including 50 entertainers, 25 food booths, 100 government and nonprofit agencies, and 100 artisans, jewelers, and makers. Around one hundred thousand visitors come from across Northern California and beyond, supporting local businesses, artists, and community organizations in a family-friendly setting.
