Rumble Over the Redwoods returns for a two-day hometown airshow on August 8-9, 2026. Expect exciting aerobatic displays, a lineup of performers, and family-friendly activities, with a special tribute to America’s 250th Anniversary. The event is hosted at California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport.

Humboldt Grange #501 hosts a community flea market where vendors share handmade creations, direct sales goods, and pre-loved or repurposed finds. Depending on the weather, shopping and selling can take place both indoors and outdoors. Vendor options include an indoor table space for $25 that comes with an 8-foot table and chairs supplied by the Grange, with a limited number of spots that offer power, or an outdoor 10-by-10 space for $15 with no tables, chairs, or power provided. What no longer serves one person might become a great discovery for someone else.

The 3rd Annual Joe Kurtz Pickleball Tournament returns to Highland Park for an outdoor competition organized by HBPC. Additional details and registration information will be shared as the event gets closer.

EBT is accepted, and convenient on-site fillet services are available. The market welcomes participation from Humboldt commercial fishers and aquaculturalists, including those from Shelter Cove, Eureka, and Trinidad, along with Orick net fishers and Tribal fishers.

Community members can explore the vibrant rhythms of Brazilian percussion in welcoming classes designed to prepare participants for the 40th Anniversary Samba Parade at the Northcountry Fair. Beginners are encouraged, and no prior drumming or performance experience is required. Instruction builds skills step by step to boost confidence, and instruments are provided. Taking part in the parade is optional, so anyone interested in learning and playing is welcome. This is a community-driven program with a sliding scale of $15 to $20 per class or the option to register for the full series for $125. Little Hands Big Art Summer Camp welcomes children ages 4 to 9 for a hands-on creative experience that blends upcycling with exploration of the natural world. Guided by local teaching artist Lela Annotto, who brings over 20 years of experience, campers work with found, repurposed, and natural materials to craft imaginative projects and turn everyday discoveries into art. Drawing inspiration from the Wonder Wagon, the program nurtures curiosity and playful making in a warm, encouraging setting. Tuition is $175 per student. Aftercare and scholarships are available, and the camp accepts families enrolled with Changing Tides Child Care Services.

Little Hands, Big Art is a youth art summer camp session for kids ages 4 to 9. It runs from August 10 through August 14 and focuses on hands-on creating using upcycled and nature-based materials, turning everyday wonders into whimsical art projects. The camp meets daily in the morning through early afternoon.

Get ready for a hands-on mural camp where young artists will collaborate to design and paint a large-scale mural from start to finish. Campers will go through the full mural process, from brainstorming themes and sketching layouts to mixing paint and painting on a big wall. It’s a great way to build teamwork skills while creating a public piece of art for the community to enjoy.

An open rehearsal with the Humboldt Harmonaires welcomes anyone interested in singing together. No musical or vocal experience is needed, and newcomers are encouraged to take part. Please bring a folding chair if you have one. Rehearsals are held at the group’s usual practice location.

The McKinleyville Union School District Board meets at a public meeting focused on continuous school improvement. The session runs in the evening and includes time for board discussions and updates for students, families, staff, and the community.

Hosted by D.I.Y. ART, this is the northernmost California edition of Shut Up And Write, held at Dead Reckoning Tavern in Arcata.

Designed for students in grades 6 through 8, this workshop invites young artists to explore street art and printmaking while learning techniques to develop their own original works. Taking cues from contemporary street artists, participants will use visual storytelling to express their ideas and perspectives. The program concludes with a student exhibition at the Youth Arts Gallery where family and friends can celebrate their creations. Cost is $200 for nonmembers and $180 for members, with optional pre or post class care available for $10.

Two family support groups are available in Eureka and Redway. In Eureka, the gathering takes place at Humboldt Plaza, the building in the same parking lot as the new DMV office, and is also available on Zoom. In Redway, the gathering is in person and on Zoom at the Redway Family Resource Center, located in the same place as Redway School across the field. Get parade ready with high-energy Samba no Pé classes led by Maria Vandehorst, presented in collaboration with Samba do Mar Humboldt and Samba da Alegria for the 40th anniversary of the Humboldt Samba Parade at the North Country Fair. The training centers on the Rio de Janeiro style danced in the Escolas de Samba, blending cultural context with clean technique, expressive style, and musicality, including practice with live percussion. Dancers learn parade choreography, build performance confidence, and strengthen community through movement. Adults and teens are welcome, and all experience levels can participate. Being in the parade is not required to attend. Tuition is $17 per class or $150 for the full series. Need-based work-trade and scholarships are available by email. The parade theme, Deep Roots, Wild Spirit, honors four decades of the Humboldt Samba Parade and the rich lineage of Brazilian samba while celebrating the region’s wild beauty. About the instructor: Maria began studying Samba no Pé and Afro-Brazilian dance in 2000, has trained in Brazil and the United States with renowned Brazilian teachers, and currently studies with Alex Coutinho, Director of Passistas for Paraíso do Tuiuti and creator of the worldwide Poderosas do Samba Project. She has paraded in Rio de Janeiro’s Sambódromo as an international passista for the Série Ouro school União do Parque Acari. Maria is the Artistic Director for Samba do Mar Humboldt, leads the dance sections for the Humboldt Samba Parade at the North Country Fair, formerly co-directed the Samba na Chuva Brazilian Dance Performance Troupe, and has taught as a guest at Pacific Union Elementary School, Cal Poly Humboldt, and the University of California Riverside.

Latin Dance Eureka brings an evening of instruction and social dancing to The Veterans Memorial Building of Eureka. The class focus changes every two months, with Rumba in January and February, Bachata in March and April, Salsa in May and June, Cha Cha in July and August, Salsa in September and October, and Bachata in November and December. The schedule features a taught class first, then time for open social dancing and practice. Admission is $10 for both the class and the social, and the social alone has a suggested $2 donation. Dancers of all levels are welcome, no partner is needed, and cash payment is preferred.
