    Pacific Community Center and Living Word of Upland present the fourth annual Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway, a free community gathering focused on helping students start the year prepared and confident. Children can receive pre-filled backpacks, and families can enjoy a free lunch of three tacos per family member. Local barbers will provide free haircuts, and there will be live music, games with prizes, a bounce house, and face painting. Community resource booths will offer services for low income families. It is a day centered on neighbors coming together with one purpose, to uplift and support local families with practical help and plenty of fun.

    Pomona Concert Band Summer Concert Series

    The Pomona Concert Band presents an evening spotlighting three composers who share a surname, with music by Clifton Williams, Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Williams. Artistic Director and Conductor Linda W. Taylor and Assistant Conductor Kerry Kline lead the band, and Councilman Steve Lustro serves as master of ceremonies. Selections include Clifton Williams’ Concertino for Percussion and Band, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Sea Songs and Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Talli, and selections from E.T. and Star Wars by John Williams. Admission is free. On this night, a guest conductor will be selected from the audience by drawing, and chances to participate can be purchased at the concession stand. Part of the band’s summer series, now in its 79th year and supported by the City of Pomona, this performance takes place at the Palomares Park Community Center while the Ganesha Park Bandshell is closed for emergency repairs.
