Tim Weed Trio & The Dorian Mode

The Plaza, 21 W Napa St, Sonoma · verified Jul 31
    Free

Part of Sonoma Sundays On the Plaza, this free concert at the Sonoma Plaza Grinstead Amphitheater is presented by Music in Place and the City of Sonoma. The bill pairs Grammy-nominated musician Tim Weed, recognized for masterful 5-string banjo work, songwriting, and soaring vocals, with The Dorian Mode, a Petaluma-based acoustic quartet led by vocalist and bassist Dorian Bartley with Robby Elfman on piano and clarinet, Peter Graves on saxophone, and Tony Blake on drums. The Dorian Mode dives into the Great American Songbook, blending vintage jazz, swinging R&B, and soulful ballads that evoke 1920s speakeasies, 1930s big-band swing, 1940s jump blues, and Ruth Brown’s classic R&B. Concerts in this series are free and open to everyone, made possible by support from the Sonoma Community Center, The Dawn Redwoods Trust, and the McNeely Family Foundation. Expect sunshine, local wine, and plenty of room to dance.

Rainbow Book Club: Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory

Napa Bookmine, 1625 2nd St, Napa · verified Aug 7
    Free

The Rainbow Book Club gathers readers for conversations focused on stories that embrace and explore queer identity. This session is cohosted by Mindy from Napa County Library alongside Napa Bookmine staff members Kass and Jules, with Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory as the featured read. The event is free, and RSVPs are appreciated to help plan for attendance. In Guillory’s novel, Avery Jensen is approaching thirty, newly single, and ready to step outside her comfort zone by dating women and learning how to flirt, even though her confidence in romance lags behind her self-assurance at work. Taylor Cameron, known around Napa Valley for her irresistible charm and a recent breakup, agrees to keep busy by giving Avery practical lessons in flirting. Weekly meetups turn instruction into genuine connection as Avery finds her footing and their spark becomes harder to ignore. Feelings rise, boundaries blur, and Taylor must decide how to navigate what they have without losing it. Reviewers praise the sharp banter, the heat, and a friends-to-lovers arc between buttoned-up Avery and heartbreaker Taylor, noting themes of competence, perfectionism, conflict, and the courage to try new things. Jasmine Guillory is a New York Times bestselling author whose novels include Drunk on Love, The Wedding Date, and the Reese’s Book Club selection The Proposal. Her writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Cosmopolitan, Bon Appetit, and Time, and she is a frequent book contributor on the Today show. She lives in Oakland, California.
