An Arts Salon! Arts and Crafts Interiors: A History of Handcraft
An intimate arts salon at Wilson House delves into the history and interiors of the Arts and Crafts movement, set within Vallejo’s only surviving residence designed by Julia Morgan. Emerging in 19th century Britain as a response to industrialization and the growing distance between creators and their craft, the movement celebrated skilled workmanship, honest materials, and the visible hand of the artist. As it spread across the United States, it developed distinctive regional expressions that emphasized local materials and aesthetics, with designers seeking harmony in interiors and collaborating across media to create unified spaces. The program features Dr. Kayli Rideout, a Tiffany and Arts & Crafts scholar, who will explore the movement’s beginnings, guiding ideas, regional variations, and the collaborative spirit behind Arts and Crafts interiors. The talk is followed by a piano recital of period music by concert pianist Susan Lin, then a guided tour of the Julia Morgan home led by owner Michael Loughrey. The event concludes with a curated wine tasting hosted by Susan Lin, who is also a Master of Wine. A limited number of tickets is available. The meet-up is open to all Volkswagen models and years, air cooled and water cooled, and enthusiasts without a VW are welcome as well. Because this takes place on an active military installation, base access requirements apply. Children under 16 do not require a visitor pass but must be accompanied by an adult with proper identification, and anyone 16 or older must present a REAL ID or the alternate identification listed. Each person must be sponsored by someone with a Military ID; Kerri and Steve Schillinger can provide sponsorship, and others with base access may assist. Security screening includes an identification review and a criminal history background check, and access may be denied based on certain histories. A pre-check is highly recommended to speed entry, which involves providing a driver’s license number, Social Security number, full name, and date of birth so the information can be submitted to the Visitor Center for verification. Those who do not complete the pre-check will be processed at the Visitor Center, and processing times can vary.

The Meritage Resort and SpaFSVAA Presents 'The Inner Mind', Visual Arts Exhibit
The Fairfield-Suisun City Visual Arts Association presents The Inner Mind, a visual arts exhibition of original works created by FSVAA member artists at the Solano Town Center Gallery. The Spotlight Artist, JoRené Danel, features fused glass pieces and glass-enhanced metal, often incorporating Japanese cherry blossoms inspired by her childhood in Japan and influenced by the Bunka and Oshie art her mother made. Her vibrant colors and endlessly varied designs draw on ideas found all around her. An opening reception includes a talk by JoRené about her fused glass display, along with a poetry reading led by Fairfield Poet Laureate Emerita Suzanne Bruce and fellow poets, who will share poems inspired by artworks in the show. Appetizers and wine are provided by BackRoad Vines Winery. Visitors can cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award, and a docent is available on the days the gallery is open to assist with questions. The gallery is located inside Solano Town Center on the second floor outside Macy’s, next to the AT&T Store. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
