Join a hands-on batik workshop where you’ll learn the full wax-resist dye process and create a finished, ready-to-display textile artwork. You’ll sketch your design, apply melted wax using a tjanting tool, and then hand-paint with fiber-reactive dyes to build layered, vibrant color effects. All materials are provided, and beginners are welcome. Wear clothing suitable for dye work.

(SOLD OUT) Birding Point Pinole: Shorebirds in the Shade

Join the Mount Diablo Bird Alliance for a morning birding outing at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, focused on finding shorebirds while you walk through the shady eucalyptus groves. You will scan the beach as the tide rises and look for migrating shorebirds and marine ducks, with a chance of surprises. The trail is narrow, dusty, and rocky in places, with limited places to sit, but there is a bathroom and water fountain at the trailhead. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. This trip welcomes beginning birders and non-MDBA members with prior registration.

Celebrate the Plunge’s 100-year anniversary with a special extended Family Recreation Swim for just $1.00. The swim runs for a 2-hour session on Saturday, August 15, and you can arrive any time during the session window. Check-in starts 15 minutes early, and there’s a registration requirement with no drop-ins allowed. Children 8 and under need an adult in the water at arm’s reach, while kids 9 and up need a supervising adult in the building. Parking may be limited, and you should plan extra time for check-in outside the building. Water bottles are OK, but no food or inflatable devices are allowed inside.
