At Infinity Dance Sport Center, this Bal Lab offers two standalone Balboa classes followed by a choice of open or guided practice, with a snack break in between. Bal Lab 1 is tailored to beginners and those refreshing their basics. It adapts to who shows up, sometimes splitting newer dancers from those with a bit more experience. Absolute beginners are encouraged to preview the three core footwork patterns on YouTube uphold basic, downhold basic, and out and ins to make the most of class time. Afterward, participants are welcome to keep practicing, observe the intermediate session, and take part in the practice hour. Bal Lab 2 is an intermediate drop in that explores pure bal and bal swing, covering combinations, connection, and higher level concepts. Dancers should be comfortable leading or following toss outs, lollies, and out and ins, and able to dance a full song in pure bal. A short snack break leads into either an open practice or a guided practice. Open practice invites solo or partnered dancing, questions, and collaboration. Guided practice is more structured, with clear goals and rotating partners similar to class. Pricing is 15 dollars per class or 25 dollars for both, and the practice session is included when taking the classes. Those attending only the practice can pay a 10 dollar studio floor fee.

Build on rigid heddle skills in a friendly, five-hour workshop centered on weaving the classic houndstooth pattern, also known as puppytooth or pinwheel. Participants learn how to plan and warp with multiple colors, then practice weaving with more than one weft color while developing neat, even selvedges. Use a loaner rigid heddle loom or bring a personal loom that is assembled, in good working order, and ready to warp. Everyone will complete a houndstooth piece approximately 10 to 20 inches long to take home. All materials needed to warp and weave the project are provided for use in class. Students should have completed Warp & Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom or be comfortable with direct warping on a rigid heddle loom. It also notes that no prior experience is required, and ages 14 and up are welcome. Weaving takes place on Ashford looms, and a variety of Ashford models will be available for purchase during the session. Military, first responder, and sibling discounts are offered, scholarships are available, homeschool funds are accepted, and an interest list is available if the class is full.

Kick off a three-part, higher-level balboa series at Infinity Dance Sport Center with Sam Chan and Cami Asher. This first session focuses on growing technique and musicality, followed by time to socialize and practice what you learned. The series unfolds about a month apart with a different teaching team each time, and recap videos from earlier sessions are shared so the next instructors can build a yes and progression on top of the material. Each workshop stands on its own, and attending all three is intended to help connect and deepen the concepts. Upcoming sessions feature Jacob Wigger with Olivia Adams, then Jeremy Otth with Shani Brown. The cost for each workshop, including the social and practice time, is $50. One Weekend Accelerated Surf Progression- Beginners
A beginner-focused weekend surf intensive at Ocean Beach in San Diego designed to quickly build confidence for community surf meetups. Across three coached sessions completed in two days, participants receive 4.5 hours of expert instruction, with the option to enjoy extra time in the water surfing alongside coach Sabrina Stokes. The exact meeting point is shared directly with attendees. This training is ideal for first-timers and new surfers who are building paddling strength, still working on consistent pop-ups and longer rides, and learning to read waves, time takeoffs, and avoid nosedives. Coaching takes place on the inside in broken waves, concentrating on whitewater practice, with opportunities to work on paddling out when conditions are small. The curriculum covers proper pop-up technique, efficient paddling, safe board handling through surf, getting over and under waves to reach the outside, wave reading, and beginner surf etiquette. Bonus learning includes how to identify tides and swell types, read tide charts, and understand surf forecasts. Teens can explore clay from start to finish in a weeklong ceramics course that blends hands-on instruction with creative discovery. Participants learn to make ceramic artwork through both wheel throwing and handbuilding, building confidence and skills along the way. Over five days, two days on the wheel introduce key fundamentals like wedging, centering, pulling forms, and trimming, often used to create cups, bowls, vases, and other functional pieces. A casual Jeep-focused beach picnic on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay continues a long-running SoCalXJ tradition that has been merged with NAXJA for years. The gathering takes place on the west shore near the shortcut from the east side, where there is plenty of flat, hardpacked sand for parking. Space will not be reserved in advance, so arriving earlier can help secure a spot since the area is popular. Attendees can bring their rigs or come in any vehicle. Plan to bring your own food and beverages, and feel free to bring something to share. Pack chairs, shade, hats, sunscreen, beach and water toys, bikes, and firewood if staying after dark. Well behaved dogs are welcome, as Fiesta Island is off leash, and there is a dog park just south of the typical hangout area. Small boats and personal watercraft can be launched from the sand with a capable 4x4. The perimeter road is also suitable for biking, walking, running, and skating, and there is ample room to spread out for anyone who prefers extra distance. The SeaWorld drone show is visible from the area later in the evening. Please follow SDPD beach rules, including no glass and no alcohol.
