Vocalist Nicole Lvoff and guitarist songwriter Joe Woodard anchor the group, joined by bassist Jim Connolly, drummer Craig Thatcher, saxophonist John Schnackenberg, trumpeter Phil Rodriguez, and accordionist Brian Mann. Session 3 of Peak2Pacific Summer Camps brings outdoor adventure and environmental learning to West Beach in Santa Barbara. Children ages 3 to 12 participate as campers, and teens can take on leadership pathways, with ages 13 to 14 training as leaders and ages 15 to 18 preparing as counselors. Programming spans ocean immersion and land based discovery. Activities may include marine biology explorations, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, surfing, boogie boarding, sailing, beach games and team challenges, along with hiking, bouldering, climbing, creek exploration, swimming, nature art and sports. The experience can also feature a sports club, an ocean discovery lab and a nature arts studio. These day camps are designed for school breaks and other times when kids benefit from being outdoors. Participants practice problem solving, collaboration and leadership, build physical coordination and social and emotional skills, and cultivate a sense of responsibility to themselves, their community and the environment through choose your challenge adventures across beaches, creeks and the Pacific.

Macrophotography in the Butterfly Pavilion
Capture close-up details of live butterflies during a photographer-only session in the Butterfly Pavilion’s Butterflies Alive garden. This 90-minute experience welcomes amateur and professional photographers ages 16 and older, and tripods are permitted. A photo release will be provided so images may be used for personal or commercial purposes. Pre-registration is required, with general admission priced at $70 and member pricing at $50. Capacity is limited to 15 participants. Additional sessions are offered on three Tuesdays during the summer. Drawing on treasures from the collection, the program highlights the Archive-Library’s artifacts and reflects on the craft of commentary through this concrete and intriguing example. Presented in collaboration with Saint Barbara Parish and hosted at the Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library, the event is part of a series that invites participants to hear from an expert and then continue with a lively exchange of questions and ideas. Light refreshments will be available. Admission is $30 for the public, with a $25 rate for SBMAL members and members of Saint Barbara Parish, and proceeds support the Archive-Library. RSVP is required, and Facebook responses are not counted, so seats are confirmed by purchasing a ticket through the organizer’s website. Bishop Szkredka was born in Czechowice-Dziedzice in southern Poland, began seminary studies in Kraków, continued at SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. His ministry has included parish service in Panorama City and Baldwin Park, advanced study at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, teaching and formation at St. John’s Seminary, a doctorate in Sacred Scripture, and appointment as Episcopal Vicar for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region by Archbishop Gomez.

An intimate concert spotlights the Andrés Vadin Trio with a guest appearance by flamenco great Pelé de los Reyes. The trio weaves flamenco heritage with jazz spontaneity and the spirit of world music. Led by Grammy-nominated guitarist Andrés Vadin, the group features Yosmel Montejo on bass and Grammy Award winner Diego Álvarez, known as El Negro, on percussion. Their collaboration delivers music that is grounded in tradition yet reaches toward new horizons. Individually, these artists have performed with Concha Buika, Antonio Carmona, Billy Cobham, Men at Work, Luis Enrique, and Juan Luis Guerra. Pelé de los Reyes, a Latin Grammy-nominated singer and composer, founded Navajita Plateá, one of Spain’s most prominent flamenco fusion bands. Navajita Plateá earned a Triple Platinum award for Desde mi Azotea and captured Song of the Year in Spain with Noches de Bohemia. Seating is very limited, with wine included.

The Makarines, a flamenco musical group currently touring with an international artist, pause their Los Angeles run for an intimate, one night only concert at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara. Guest artist Aroa Fernandez adds her mix of traditional flamenco with soul, electronica, and world music. A spirited conversation at the Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library explores decades behind the scenes at Old Mission Santa Barbara, featuring stories from Joan Cota, Theresa Pote, and Brother Angelo Cardinalli, OFM. The Mission has long served as a historic and cultural touchstone for the community and a destination for visitors from around the globe, bringing together friars, staff, and guests whose experiences range from moving to lighthearted. Joan began working at the Serra Gift Shop as a teenager and has met countless visitors and many friars, each with a tale to tell. Theresa grew up around the shop alongside her mother and later joined the team, adding her own perspective from years on site. Brother Angelo is a longtime Franciscan with more than six decades of service as cook, retreat director, counselor, pastoral minister, and spiritual director, and he brings a rich trove of memories. Part of the An Educating Conversation series, the program begins with insights from the guests and then opens into an engaging exchange that welcomes stories from those in attendance.
