The Pomona Concert Band continues its 79th Annual Summer Concert Series at the Palomares Park Community Center, presented with support from the City of Pomona. This program, titled Conductor Favorites, is led by Artistic Director and Conductor Linda W. Taylor and hosted by columnist David Allen. The evening highlights selections Taylor especially enjoys with the ensemble, including Toccata for Band, On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss, Sousa’s Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Days of Wine and Roses, and Marching Down Broadway. All performances in the series are free to the public, and a concession stand will be available. The series is being presented at Palomares Park because the bandshell at Ganesha Park is undergoing emergency repairs. Founded in 1947 by G. Stanton Selby, the band brings together musicians from Pomona and more than twenty nearby communities.

The Autism Society Inland Empire presents a free, family friendly Safety and Fun Expo designed for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities and the people who support them throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Attendees can connect in a welcoming environment, explore helpful resources, and take part in engaging activities for all ages. Families will have opportunities to meet local service providers and learn about programs and supports available in the community. Pacific Community Center and Living Word of Upland present the fourth annual back to school giveaway, a free community gathering created to help students head into the new school year prepared and confident. Families can pick up complimentary backpacks filled with supplies, enjoy a lunch of three tacos for each family member, and access free haircuts provided by local barbers. The day also features live music, games with prizes, a bounce house, face painting, and community resource booths offering services for low income families. It is a celebration of neighbors supporting one another with the shared goal of uplifting local families.

ALRC’s Hot August Nights Playday showcases timed horse games where speed and precision determine the outcome. Riders take on patterns such as barrels, poles, and bridges, and those who prefer a slower pace are welcome as well. Spectator entry is free. Food service at the chow hall will be available. Fees include $4.99 per class, a $9 grounds fee, and a $5 office fee. Spectators can watch and cheer as competitors make their runs.
