    Author Event: Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Bookmine, 1625 2nd St, Napa · verified Aug 7
    Free

This author event features Richard Mendelson and his book Cabernet Sauvignon, The Love Affair that Built the Napa Valley. The book traces how Cabernet Sauvignon helped transform a little-known California farming community into a celebrated wine region, from 19th century plantings to the triumphs at the Judgment of Paris, highlighting the efforts of pioneers, artists, and craftsmen. Drawing on decades in Napa Valley as a winemaker, author, and a leading attorney and adviser, Mendelson shares portraits and reflections on influential figures such as André Tchelistcheff, Maynard Amerine, Robert Mondavi, Warren Winiarski, and Bill Harlan. Rich with historical portraits, maps, lithographs, and contemporary photography, the volume offers a chronicle of Napa Valley’s rise and the people working to protect its future. Mendelson’s background includes studies at Oxford, work at Bouchard Aîné & Fils in Burgundy, a legal education at Stanford, and a career in wine law with Dickenson, Peatman & Fogarty, along with leadership roles that include founding the Wine Law and Policy Program at the University of California, Berkeley, and co-founding the International Wine Law Association. The event is free.
