Shrink It! Jewelry & Charm Art Kid's Art Class

Kids ages 5 and up can dive into a hands-on art session that transforms colorful shrink film drawings into sturdy charms and jewelry. Participants sketch and color playful characters like animals, fruit, or any imaginative idea, then watch their artwork shrink into mini pieces ready to wear. Everyone will create several charms and a pair of earrings, with hooks and other hardware included. A bracelet station introduces a simple braiding technique that holds charms, so each person can finish with a coordinated accessory. Those who have a specific idea are welcome to bring a favorite character or personal drawing up to about 3 inches by 3 inches. The pace is welcoming for all, with step-by-step guidance for younger artists and plenty of freedom for older kids and adults to add their own style. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed. Children under 8 may benefit from having a grown-up participate alongside them, making this a collaborative and creative experience for every age.

The second session moves into beginning a coil from scratch to start your first basket, using the skills from the first class to tackle the most challenging step. The final session focuses on finishing techniques so both the coaster from the first class and the basket from the second class can be completed. Classes two and three are open to anyone who has taken prior pine needle basketry classes from Lisa Winta. Sample images are for reference and thread colors may vary. Finished baskets measure about 3.5 inches across and 2 inches high. All materials are provided, and the class is for ages 13 and up. Fine finger dexterity is required, and close-up reading glasses are recommended if needed. Students will continue working on their pieces between classes.

Mark A. Johnson in Conversation with Soul Food Scholar, Adrian Miller!

Old Firehouse Books hosts a conversation and signing with historian Mark A. Johnson to celebrate his new book, American Bacon, with Soul Food Scholar and award-winning author Adrian Miller joining the discussion. The program explores how bacon shifted from religious and cultural disfavor to a contemporary culinary and cultural force, tracing its story from early modern Britain through the colonial era, the Civil War, the Progressive Era, modern diet trends, and the craft bacon movement. Johnson’s work connects this history to race, class, and gender, while also addressing broader themes such as migration, warfare, urbanization and suburbanization, reform efforts, cultural trends, and globalization, following bacon’s path from a food once branded dangerous to a pop culture and gastronomic phenomenon. Johnson teaches at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is the author of An Irresistible History of Alabama Barbecue: From Wood Pit to White Sauce and Rough Tactics: Black Performance in Political Spectacle, 1877 to 1932. Adrian Miller, a two-time James Beard Award winner and Certified Speaking Professional based in Denver, is a culinary author, certified barbecue judge, and former attorney who served with the White House Initiative for One America and later as a senior policy analyst for Colorado Governor Bill Ritter Jr. He has written on soul food, African American presidential chefs, barbecue history, and Asian heritage chefs in the White House. His latest title, Cooking to the President’s Taste, was published by the White House Historical Association in 2025 and has earned multiple national awards. Books can be ordered in store or online and will be available during the event.

An Evening with Both Sides Now

An opening image of two singer songwriters perched on a cliff sets the tone for Both Sides Now, a theatrical concert that delves into the intertwined music and personal histories of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Conceived and performed by Robbie Schaefer and Danielle Wertz, this intimate cabaret travels across eras through beloved songs like A Case of You, Hallelujah, Big Yellow Taxi, Suzanne, and more. It blends the spirit of the 60s and 70s with the present, reflecting on the messy work of being human, the pull of growth, and the courage it takes to seek connection again and again. Schaefer is a rabbi, singer songwriter, and theater and film artist, known as the guitarist and songwriter for the indie folk band Eddie From Ohio. His solo work includes the 2023 single Under the Sun. He founded Lamplighters, an online community centered on small scale, relationship driven, inclusive Judaism, and OneVoice, an international nonprofit that empowers youth through music and the creative arts. He has performed alongside Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Josh Groban, Keb’ Mo’, and Emmylou Harris. His first musical, Light Years, about his relationship with his father, a Holocaust survivor, premiered at the Tony Award winning Signature Theatre in 2018. Current projects include The Blue Poppy, an Irish Jewish ghost story created with Scottish playwright Grace Barnes, and Songs From The Wilderness, an album of Jewish musical midrash planned for early 2026. He is also an unabashed olive enthusiast. Wertz is a storyteller, collaborator, jazz musician, composer, and arranger whose voice has been praised by DownBeat Magazine for its evocative intimacy, expressiveness, and poignancy. Early milestones include becoming the youngest semi finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and runner up in the 2017 Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition. After releasing two small ensemble albums as a bandleader and a third with Denmark’s Nordkraft Big Band that received a GRAMMY Award in 2026, she continues to affirm a singular place in contemporary vocal jazz while expanding into genre crossing large ensemble work. Following her first European tour as a bandleader in the fall, she remains active internationally and within the NYC creative music scene. In 2026 she will be the featured artist on two major interdisciplinary projects, one an original work by Harriet Steinke commissioned by Beth Morrison Projects, and another a crossover jazz opera by composer Ben Morris with a libretto by Gina Stevensen. She is also famously fond of chocolate.

The Crane Wives with Brye

Presented by 105.5 The Colorado Sound, The Crane Wives headline with special guest Brye. Emerging from the 2010s folk movement and now leaning into a rock-forward chapter of indie folk, the band is known for energetic sets, tight harmonies, and lyrics that face the more vulnerable parts of the human experience. Their listenership tops 1.3 million monthly on Spotify, with more than 150 million streams on their most popular tracks and fans spanning the US, the UK, Australia, Germany, Brazil, Poland, Mexico, and the Philippines. Featured by Michigan Radio and on NPR’s All Songs Considered, they recently released their sixth studio album, Beyond Beyond Beyond, which drew strong critical praise for turning personal hardship into broadly relatable anthems and for its angsty, haunting grit. Since its 2024 release, the record has surpassed 24 million Spotify streams. Onstage, bassist Ben Zito and drummer Dan Rickabus drive the pulse while co-leads Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury trade expansive electric guitar lines, with three-part harmonies softening the emotional punch. With six full-length albums and more than 600 shows across the country, The Crane Wives have shared bills with The Avett Brothers, Lake Street Dive, Rusted Root, The Dead South, Joseph, and more.

Four Winds CHJA II

The Four Winds hosts a Colorado Hunter Jumper Association recognized horse show with courses crafted by a USEF licensed "R" course designer and supported by experienced officials. The competition emphasizes high-quality course design and staffing, reflecting the standards of many A+ rated horse shows around the country, while remaining one of the more affordable options in Colorado. All horses trailering onto the property must have a health certificate and a current Coggins test. If an infectious disease outbreak occurs, requirements may change, so updates are shared on the venue’s website and Facebook page. These measures promote sound horsemanship and protect the well-being of every horse on site.

Ratboys | Aggie Theatre

Ratboys take the stage at Aggie Theatre, presenting the Chicago four-piece’s vivid blend of twang, bright hooks, and candid storytelling. Their newest release, Singin’ to an Empty Chair, is the band’s sixth album and first on New West Records. Shaped by vocalist Julia Steiner’s effort to open a dialogue with a once-close loved one, the songs balance intimate reflection with a spirited spark. Created with co-producer Chris Walla, the album began at a quiet cabin in Wisconsin, then continued at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago and later at Rosebud Studio in Evanston. It moves from buoyant power pop on “Anywhere” to post-country textures on “Penny in the Lake,” pauses for tender moments like “Just Want You to Know the Truth,” and blasts into the expansive “Light Night Mountains All That.” Written after Steiner began therapy, the collection travels from reaching into silence to a calm resolution, folding in honesty, humor, and a touch of chaos along the way.

Midnight North with Emberfield | Aggie Theatre | Presented by KRFC 88.9 FM

KRFC 88.9 FM presents a live performance featuring Midnight North with Emberfield. Rooted in the Bay Area music community, Midnight North was founded by singer songwriters Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck with bassist Connor O’Sullivan, later completing the lineup with drummer and banjo player Nathan Graham. The group sharpened its sound and chemistry through regular performances at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael. Midnight North’s fifth studio album, Diamonds in the Zodiac, released on the Americana Vibes label, continues the direction set by There’s Always a Story and draws on a wide spectrum of American roots styles, including bluegrass, country, soul, blues, funk, jazz, and gospel. The project was produced by Amy Helm and includes contributions from Phil and Brian Lesh, Jason Crosby, and TJ Kanczuzewski. It was recorded at Dave Schools’ Spacecamp studio in Occidental and mixed by D. James Goodwin, with album artwork by Micah Nelson, also known as Particle Kid. The band features dual lead writers in Lesh and Peck, bringing both song driven storytelling and expansive, improvisation friendly ideas. Notable pieces from this era include Questions, influenced by Jeff Tweedy’s songwriting approach, and The Colors Here with Phil Lesh on bass, Jason Crosby on violin, and Amy Helm on harmonies, as well as a new take on Back to California supported by a choir of friends and family. Guests under 18 require an accompanying adult.
