Montrose Colorado 81403After School Art for Ages 5-8
This five-week after school art class welcomes children ages 5 to 8 to the Montrose Field House Apex Room. Tuition is $90. With a nature-inspired focus that celebrates spring, participants shape wild clay, weave with willow, craft paper from natural fibers, and mix their own paints using materials found in nature. A sequence of projects invites young artists to practice problem solving, deepen their connection to the land, and bring personal ideas to life. Hands-on making is paired with movement games and group activities to encourage experimentation, teamwork, and self expression in a welcoming environment that builds skills and confidence. The class is led by artist and educator Emily Knickerbocker, who lives and works on Colorado’s Western Slope. Her practice centers on natural and repurposed materials and explores how people relate to the environment, with personal expression inspiring advocacy, healing, and wonder. She holds a BA in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and has taught in public schools as well as alternative, outdoor based programs. She continues to grow her own art practice while creating learning opportunities for youth in Ridgway and Montrose. If a child has specific needs, contact in advance to help ensure the best experience.
