Pig Lightning, formed by Ben Gallagher and Robin Chestnut after collaborating in multiple projects and living together, channels their wilder ideas into a set that leans about 60 percent original material and 40 percent warped pop covers, shaped by a vivid, unusual sound and daring, off-kilter rhythms.

Writers' Night, South in Pueblo!

Please note there has been a change in venue. This two hour meetup at The Senate Bar & Grill brings together writers of all experience levels for conversation, community, and practical support. Participants guide the discussion while a host keeps things organized, covering topics such as crafting query letters, finding an agent, and celebrating recent accomplishments. It offers a friendly place to share expertise, connect with peers, and build ongoing relationships with other authors in Pueblo. The event information also introduces Monica, a former travel nurse who came to Southern Colorado by way of Kentucky. She began a memoir during the COVID pandemic and, after pitching her project at a workshop, secured representation with Kat Kerr of the Donald Maass Literary Agency. After encountering limited literary resources in Pueblo, she found community through Pikes Peak Writers in Colorado Springs and hopes this local spin off on the historic riverwalk will be a meaningful asset for the area.

Sunday Night Cruise

Classic cars, custom builds, and meticulously clean rides roll together for a citywide cruise that blends car culture with community pride. The pace stays mellow with music flowing and windows down, highlighting a respectful, positive atmosphere where culture and community come first. Weather permitting, participants gather at Rise Dispensary before cruising through Pueblo at a laid-back, low-and-slow pace. The focus is on sharing builds, celebrating the scene, and keeping things drama free.

Dragon Championship presented by Brunswick

The Dragon Championship at Pinelle's Bowlero Lanes highlights the 45-foot PBA Dragon pattern from 2022. Advance registration is required, and same-day entries or walk-ins are not accepted.

Petco Dog Adoption Event

Meet adoptable dogs at Petco in Pueblo. A wide variety of pups of different ages, breeds, shapes, and sizes will be on site, each having undergone a behavior assessment and begun basic training and manners, ready for a fresh start. A team of professionals will be available to answer questions and guide the adoption process. Pueblo Brain Injury Support Group

The Pueblo Brain Injury Support Group is open to the public, welcoming survivors and their caregivers. Hosted at Center Toward Self-Reliance, the group will feature guest speakers throughout the year.

Tween Game Play & Pokemon Club

Geared for ages 8 to 12, this club at Pikes Peak Library District’s Fountain Library centers on game play and all things Pokémon. Tweens can trade cards, play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and chat about the Pokémon world. Conversation can also branch out to books, movies, shows, video games, and other tabletop favorites. A variety of board and card games will be available, with options such as Candy Land, Monopoly, Uno, Exploding Kittens, and chess. Participants may bring the Pokémon Go app on their own device to add friends, battle, or compare strategies. Younger siblings have a designated play area in the children’s reading section. The gathering takes place in the Fountain Meeting Room at the library.

District 60 MS Championships

This track and field event features middle school championships. Running events, such as hurdles, dashes, relays, and runs, will commence at 5:00 PM, with girls competing first, followed by boys. Throwing events will also begin at 5:00 PM, starting with boys shot put, followed by girls, and girls discus, followed by boys. Jumping events are scheduled to start at 5:15 PM, with girls high jump first, then boys, followed by boys long jump, then girls, and girls triple jump, then boys.

Cruisin' PBR

Set out from Walter’s Brewery & Taproom for a group bike ride held each Thursday, weather permitting, with freezing rain canceling. The ride covers about 10 to 15 miles around town, and the route is selected at the meetup. Bring bike lights and a water bottle, and dress for an evening outing that may extend after dark. Carrying a small repair kit and a pump is advised. Participation is at your own risk.

NEW RENEWAL Colorado Concealed Carry Permit

This class is for anyone considering owning or carrying a firearm for self-defense. It serves as an introduction to everything you need to know to start your self-protection journey. This course is a guide to understanding the basics of firearms ownership, safety, and nomenclature, and how it applies to home- or self-defense. Topics include developing a personal and home protection plan, self-defense firearms basics, shooting fundamentals, gear and gadgets, the legal use of force, violent encounters and the aftermath, and basic and advanced skills. The class includes a live fire component. Students will learn Colorado Concealed Carry Permit Renewal, Colorado Gun Laws, Use of Force, Gun Safety, Guns and Actions, Loading and Unloading Handguns, Ammunition, and Holsters. Students will also be instructed on the State Required Curriculum.

May Volunteer Orientation

Get started as a PAWS for Life volunteer with an introductory orientation that explains the program and ways to support the animals. Attendance is required before volunteering, and afterward participants are matched with roles that fit their interests. Opportunities include group dog walks, enrichment and basic manners practice in the yard, cat socialization, cleaning, filing, home visit checks, putting together treats and community service bags, fostering, helping at off site events such as bingo, and fundraising.

Participate in a golf tournament designed to be a premier golf experience that is fun, fair, and rewarding. Organized so that golfers of all levels can enjoy the game and connect with others. The prize pool encourages improvement and consistency, and golfers record the most net pars on their scorecard. Sachiko Takaki's Film Night

Held at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center, this film program celebrates the life and artistry of Sachi Takaki, whose century-long ties to the Pueblo community shaped a remarkable legacy. Two films are presented with her granddaughter and producer, Jennifer Takaki, followed by a question-and-answer conversation with her sons, Mel and Alan Takaki. Sachi advanced Japanese paper arts into a refined contemporary form and was highlighted in the 2007 Japanese Jewels exhibition at this venue. Known for meticulous origami and for experimental works that explored texture and light, she often layered handmade papers of different weights, sometimes stained to reveal a soft inner glow, creating abstract compositions that resembled otherworldly landscapes. Guided by a humble respect for her materials and inspired by the sun, moon, and stars, she sought to reveal the beauty already present in the paper. She remained an influential cultural figure in Pueblo until her passing in 2018 at the age of 100. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for members, and Studio 210 is free. Drift Clinics 2026

Get hands-on with drifting at Pikes Peak International Raceway in a controlled setting tailored to newcomers and experienced drivers alike. With guidance from seasoned instructors, participants focus on core car control skills and apply them through guided practice, real time feedback, and ample seat time on the infield’s C Course and skid pad. New drivers who want to drift at PPIR Festival events must complete a PPIR Drift Clinic. A Beginner or Advanced Drift License can be earned during the clinic, and a license is required to drift at all PPIR Festivals. The day features an introduction and driver meeting in the Banquet Room, dedicated clinic sessions, a lunch break, a second classroom segment in the Banquet Room, a drivers meeting for open drift at the Shop Party Bar, then an open drift session before the track goes cold.

Summer Off The Streets - Super Sprints & Drags

At PPIR, a full day of motorsport blends precision laps with street-style thrills. The morning centers on Super Sprints, an expanded take on track sprints that uses the entire facility in multiple configurations. Drivers log timed, non-competitive runs without added obstacles, working both the high-speed oval and the technical infield road course. The focus is generous seat time, car control, and longer sessions that suit every experience level. As daylight fades, the action shifts to Saturday Night Drags, delivering straight-line excitement in a relaxed, safe, and street-inspired environment. The Drags Cash Days Shootout offers open entry with an elimination format. Each participant adds 50 dollars in cash to the pot, and the last driver standing collects the full payout. The day flows from gates opening to Super Sprints, transitions into evening bar service and open drags, builds to the Cash Days Shootout, and wraps when the gates close.

Hot Rods & Hardware 2026

Hot Rods & Hardware returns for its fourth year in 2026 with a larger lineup. The car show features standout rides and participation from Pueblo West businesses such as Big Bear Wine & Liquor, Shiver and Shake, Cyclone Car Wash, and others to help kick off spring. For the fourth year, the event partners with RMSER Pueblo Blessing Boxes to collect canned goods for the community. Donating non-expired food during the event provides extra raffle tickets. Visitors can also stop by neighboring businesses to enter the first-ever Shoppes at Market Plaza grand prize, which includes a prize from each participating business. Vehicle display space is very limited. Show cars must be registered in advance, and parking for the show will not be available without prior registration. Fused Landscapes Glass Class

Learn the glass fusing process in an introductory class at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center. Under the guidance of instructor Nell Trask, each student designs and completes an 8 by 10 inch landscape made from fusible glass. No experience is necessary and no glass cutting is required. Finished pieces are tack fused and will be available for pickup one week after the class. The completed landscapes are suitable for wall display or for a tabletop stand. This class is open to adults, seniors, and teens over 16. Tuition is $110, with member pricing reflected in the cart once logged in. An N95 mask is recommended for safety.

Wild and Rooted: A Mudpie Journey

Join us on May 17 for a special journey into the heart of Cuchara, CO, led by certified nature guide, Gina Percival. This mindful hike invites you to connect deeply with nature, as Gina points out the rich history of the area and shares fascinating details about the natural world around us. Our journey will take us along a portion of Baker Creek Trail. The hike is just under a mile each way, making it a total of approximately 2 miles of moderately difficult, natural terrain. Rocks are prevalent on some areas of the trail. You’ll experience the soothing quiet of the wilderness and the benefits of mindful movement in the great outdoors. Along the way, you’ll gather materials for creating beautiful mudpies at a serene creekside stop. Using elements found in nature, you’ll design your own piece of art that captures the magic of the landscape and your own imagination. This day is about embracing nature, nurturing creativity, and reconnecting with your playful side. Expect a day filled with natural beauty, gentle exercise, and a sense of wonder. We’ll be leaving from Pueblo, CO, at 8 a.m., and anticipate returning by the late afternoon. Carpooling will be available for those who wish to join the group and not drive by themselves. This ladies-only, women-led motorsports weekend celebrates confidence behind the wheel with an expanded slate of track sprints, more drifting, head-to-head drag racing, and burnouts lighting up THE RING. Off-track energy matches the action with a standout car show, interactive drift challenges and other mini games, plus a s'mores party. A limited Sadie Hawkins Ticket adds a twist by allowing a man to drive only by invitation from a woman driver during select Open Drift sessions, and it must be purchased together with a ladies driver ticket. Created to turn grief into purpose, this gathering honors his legacy while supporting causes that mattered to his family. The event features a 5K run and walk open to all ages and abilities, along with a one-mile route for children 11 and under. Finisher medals are provided, and early registrants receive a free T-shirt. Free outdoor yoga returns to Cumberland Green Park with The Rooted Rose Sangha. Gymkhana

Gymkhana at Metcalfe Park welcomes riders across a wide range of divisions, from Leadline and Walk trot to age groups spanning Pee Wee 6 and under, 7 to 10, 11 to 13, 14 to 17, 18 to 30, 31 to 49, and 50 and over. 2026 PHEF Muchachas Intelligentes Golf Tournament

Presented by the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation, the Muchachas Inteligentes golf tournament takes place at Elmwood Golf Course. DOWNTOEARTH Ascend 2026

Down To Earth partners with PPIR to present a two day motorsports festival at Pikes Peak International Raceway that blends on track excitement with a curated automotive showcase, all capped by a big fireworks finale. The program features 300 plus hand selected show vehicles, an oval track cruise for show entries, drifting throughout the day with a brand new skills battle, drag racing, circle drags, hot lap sessions, and a spirited burnout competition. The drag strip also hosts a head to head tug of war. Beyond the action, the festival atmosphere includes a Thrill Zone with activities for all ages, interactive sponsor activations, food trucks and local vendors, a live DJ, giveaways, and merchandise. Trophies will be presented across more than 20 classes, with the full list to come. The event is family friendly with no age requirement, and children under 9 receive free entry. Spectator parking is free, and accessible parking is available. Created to elevate Colorado’s automotive culture through inclusive, community driven experiences, the festival emphasizes respect for the venue, for one another, and for the culture.
