Park City Music Hall hosts Bit Brigade for a unique blend of live rock and gaming. The Mercy Velvet Project brings the seldom-heard 1999 album Live in Vain by Mercy Velvet to the stage as an embodied re-creation. Co-presented by kamrDANCE and Yale Schwarzman Center, with support from Yale Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, these premiere performances follow the album’s nine songs in order, uniting a femme and queer ensemble of musicians and dancers to reflect on what makes us human and the communities that help us endure. Across the set, the artists examine barriers to love and discover how offering and receiving mercy can open a path to survival, wholeness, and hope. Choreographer Alexis Robbins grew up with this music. Her father, Mark Robbins, was Mercy Velvet’s drummer and co-composer with lyricist and vocalist Deb Lili and guitarist Lou Lili, and his guidance helped shape her voice as a tap artist. Now Robbins, Musical Director Christie Echols, and collaborators share the album with audiences for the first time, expanding its legacy more than twenty-five years later through their lived identities and the realities of today. Part rock concert and part immersive sound journey, the production treats dance and music as inseparable. The story of the album unfolds through tap used as percussion, contemporary movement, original text, and live instrumentation on bass, guitar, vocals, and electronics, inviting the company to reveal vulnerability, lift one another up, and search together for the antidote of mercy that leads to a meaningful life.

The shelter is filled with wonderful pets ready for loving homes, and this open-house adoption event is focused on finding the right match for each one. Sponsored by the Cathy Kangas Foundation, approved adopters can take home a new companion with adoption fees waived. No appointment is needed to meet the adoptable pets, and standard application and processing steps still apply. Applications can be submitted in person the same day or sent ahead of time. Every adopted pet receives the standard adoption package, which includes spay or neuter, two vaccinations, and a microchip, all completed before the pet goes home. Pets do not go home the same day. The goal is to place more than 30 waiting pets into great homes, and many alumni of past Free the Shelter events say it helped them discover and adopt their new best friend.

He supported the album with a national headlining run that hit more than 30 venues across the country and regularly sold out. Before that, he launched his solo piano series with Beethoven Blues in 2024, reimagining iconic Beethoven themes; it spent nine weeks at the top of Billboard’s Classical Albums chart and delivered his strongest sales week to date. In 2023, World Music Radio arrived with guests including Jon Bellion, Lana Del Rey, and Lil Wayne, receiving five Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year. Batiste was also the focus of Matthew Heineman’s Netflix documentary American Symphony, released with Higher Ground, which followed a year that included nine Grammy nominations and five wins for the album We Are.
